That's a lovely stew recipe Jane. When my granny was alive she used to make pasties from leftover stew.
She would drain off the gravy to serve with the pasties, then fill the pasties with the meat and veg from the stew and serve with greens and mashed potatoes.
Absolutely delicious
Thank you for a yummy meal. To your apple crumble I would add oatmeal, cinnamon, and nutmeg. All your food looks so enjoyable.
There is nothing like a nice stew when our weather cools down. Love it and dumplings,
Agreed on that
Thank You for your time & knowledge 💜
Thanks for watching
Looks good! Thanks for the reminder for steaming cabbage something I haven’t done in a long time. Have a good day.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Lovely meal there Jane! Mike your a lucky chap having such a clever lady to cook these lovely meals for you. Fit for a king I should say! 👌😋😋
Thanks so much
It looks as if it would make a lovely pie filling if it was thickened and you put a pastry crust over it. I have made a similar recipe with Guinness, which is the only thing I like Guiness for!
Thank you for the video!
It’s best with a dark beer
I made this today and just finished eating it...The whole family said it was the best stew they have ever had. First time for me cooking with the 11-1 too. Thank you for the recipie!
Thank so much
Great idea adding dumplings to the stew! I’m going to try that next time I make stew.
I only use a pound of beef but I really bulk mine out with lots and lots of vegetables. I add onions, celery, carrots, potatoes, a bag of frozen mixed vegetables and a can of cream style corn to help thicken the gravy.
I do add beef stock or bouillon along with some garlic, thyme, salt, pepper and a bit of ground rosemary.
We usually eat it with a nice piece of crusty bread to mop up the extra gravy.
If I was feeling better today I would make a pot of stew but unfortunately I’m under the weather. It’s a rainy breezy day here in the Midwest in Northern Illinois and this would be a perfect meal for the weather.
Thanks for sharing your recipe and for sharing your tips and tricks for stretching our budgets.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching
I especially love your cooking videos!
Thanks very much
Yum!!! I used to request stew with dumplings for my birthday when i was a kid. Youve inspired me to cook it. Its been decades.
It’s lovely
Delicious.. have never made dumplings Jane. Great to see them being made. Super video as always . Thank you
You’re welcome and thanks very much for watching

Absolutely
Everything looks so yummy. 👍💐
Thank you
I now make stew a lot in my instant pot and love it! I haven’t made dumplings for ages as I never find gluten free ones are light and fluffy enough! However I will try some in the pot next time and see what happens! Thanks Jane
Thanks Heather.
Looks gorgeous
Mmmmmm!! That looks absolutely wonderful! 😋
Thanks so much
Mmm absolutely delicious Jane .I could make this in my slow cooker 🙂
Yes you could
Looks delicious! Have never made beef stew in our instant pot, curious to try it.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Quite a feast. Looks great!
Thanks Liz
I just made a small grass fed roast beef, carrots and parsnips from the garden, an onion chopped in quarters, and a sprinkle of dried garlic on top of the meat. We “nuked” a couple of potatoes. What a yummy dinner. It will be just as good tomorrow! 💙
Thanks very much for sharing
That looked yummy. I agree with another comment that Your hubby is a lucky man.👏👏👏
We’re both lucky to have such a team member.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance absolutely Jane. Marriage is team work.
Yours is the second video I’ve seen that cooked beef stew and dumplings! That has to be on my menu next week!
Enjoy
U.S. beef stew usually contains potatoes, carrots, peas, onions and celery for vegetables. Your meal looked delicious and hello to the adorable Dolly & Mary!!
Thanks for watching
Delicious!
Thank you
Yummy
Yum! I had not thought of dumplings though I like to make a beef cobbler or a suet-crust pie . Apple crumble looks delicious, a favourite for me too especially when we have so many apples this year.
Thanks for watching
Looks yummy!

I’d like to try this. I’ve never heard of beef with dumplings, we only have chicken & dumplings here. This looks really delicious.
Thanks for watching
Delicious
just cooked this one, although i didnt have time to make dumplings....but the stew was a truely rich and tasty filling warming meal....thanks....getting through some of your meals one by one....the lardons really make a huge difference for sure
Thanks Annie. We appreciate your feedback.
My mom used to make dumplings and at times she switched to using cornmeal to make them. She would cook them in collard greens with either smoked ham hocks or fatback. Your meal looked fabulous.
Thanks so much
YUM. …!!!! I love your mom 🤗👏😁
Your correct. The instant pot sweats. But other wise I love my instantpot
Thanks, even on hot, it’s not hot enough to brown meat
This looks so delicious, dumplings in a stew is so good. Thank you for your recipe videos, they are inspiring. 🌹

This stew looks yummy. Thank you Jane and Mike. It's been years since we've had dumplings with stew and I'm going to make this. Stew and dumplings and mince and dumplings were childhood favourites and perfect cold weather food.
We recently built a hayless Haybox for cooking, copying a box from a RUclipsr called Cairn Of Dunn Permaculture and made our first Scotch Broth in the haybox today. It's a great way to cook economically. A large pot of soup and ham hough cooked perfectly. I brought the pot to the boil on the hob, then straight into the haybox.
Mince and onions with dumplings is a taste of my childhood
Your beef stew looks delicious. I haven't tried it in the instant pot. I agree it doesn't get hot enough. I put potatoes in my stew and don't use tomatoes or dumplings. I coat the stew beef in flower and brown it, Then mix in the rest. We add a bay leaf. Stews are versatile, aren't they? Thanks for another great cooking video!
Thanks very much
Looks perfect, will be trying this very soon
Thanks for watching
Yummy , will be making a stew in my Hot Pot at some point , so this has been really helpful 😊
Thanks for watching
Am doing all these instant pot recipes, thank you 😊
Thank you
Thank you. It looks yummy

This was great thanks. I decided organise my freezer this weekend and I’m going to cook up two small portions of roast beef and put satay sauce over one and turn the other into a Japanese curry. I’ve gotten behind on having mini freezer meals on hand (oops). The dumplings look delicious, I’ll need to try that!
Thanks for watching
👍👍👍
Thanks Jane, I didn't know I could make dumplings in the instant pot.
Yep, in two minutes and they’re ready
@@FrugalQueeninFrance That's fantastic. Thanks Jane.
Looks delish!
Thanks very much
Leftover red wine can be frozen in ice cube trays for adding to food. When they are frozen they can be removed and put in a plastic bag or container.
Making dumplings with grated lard is an excellent alternative to suet. My husband can’t eat suet for some reason so I’ll be trying this.
Thanks for sharing
Looks so good. I like seeing other variations than what I normally do. Like I would have never thought of putting a rutabaga into my beef stew and I grow rutabagas and I'm going to try that also whenever I've made like an apple crumble it has like a oat topping it does have flour in it but it's like mostly like an oatmeal cinnamon brown sugar topping I'm going to try it with this topping it's kind of more like a dump cake and those are so delicious. I've tried many of your recipes and they've all been very good you are a great cook always enjoy your cooking videos the best
Thank you
Thank you
Haven't made stew for ages - got carrots turnip and leek to use up so will get some stewing steak tomorrow and make some - I add red lentils to my stew - makes it nice any thick ☺️
Thanks for watching and commenting
You could also add pearl barley and /or a tin of butter beans.
You could indeed.
I haven’t made stew in a long time since my children are all married. I thought the sauté setting was very hot. I’ve used the meat/stew setting to sauté also, if you have that setting. Thanks for this video.
Absolutely delicious looking stew...never thought to do dumplings in the pressure cooker. I'm surprised at your model of Instant Pot not sauteeing/brown well. I've got an older 8 quart Lux model, a year old 6 quart basic Duo and a 3 quart Duo and they saute very efficiently. Maybe it's the fancier higher level ones that don't saute/brown well.
Mine’s hopeless at it, I’d have to brown a bit at a time removing the food to do so
Haven't made dumplings in a while. I remember my mom's. Her secret was not to take the lid off and peek till they were done.
She was right , they’re steamed
My mum did the same thing! Loved her stew and dumplings on a cold wintery day. Mine never turns out the same but maybe it’s because I take the lid off?! 😝
We call these dough balls in Scotland in Scotland and cook them in mince & stews.
Good name
You can also cook this in a slow cooker / crock pot, tried it recently to see how it would work. Do use Atora Suet, I also add pepper and dried mixed herbs to the dumplings. Just pop on top of the stew for the last 40 mins of cooking. Was a lot less hassle than using the cooker. Have a pressure cooker so, will try it in there the next time, thank you for posting.
Did you watch the video?
@@FrugalQueeninFrance I did, went back to check I had given a thumbs up, had seen I did not hit the subscribe button, all done now. 👍
@@irenedombryant2023 then if you watched it, you’d have seen I used lard
Delicious!! Throw in a Marrow bone if you have one available next time. Next Level goodness!!(Or some osso Bucco)
One my favorite meals. Your recipe looks delicious. I'm really enjoying your channel. Does your instant pot saute function not have selectable levels? Mine is different than yours but I can select less, normal or more on mine. If I'm correct yours is the Instant Pot 6qt Duo Evo Plus. You should be able to select Custom, Low and High when you are in saute mode.
Mine is low or high, high doesn’t brown
Now I'm hungry😅
I made a beef stew in my slow cooker yesterday using a recipe from the Slow Cook book by Heather Whitney
It included the very unexpected ingredient of anchovies and this enhanced the flavour of the beef amazingly
Don't know if anyone else has heard of this strange combination
Thank you Jane for your video
A
Anchovies are a great salty flavour
@@frugalitystartsathome4889 they’re expensive now, but what isn’t
Yummy, I cooked beef shin casserole in my Instant Pot yesterday and stretched leftovers out tonight by adding dumplings but cooked on stove top. I really must try adding some celery, it is not something I cook with at moment Thank you for trialing the IP dumplings, next time I will do them in IP. Just as an aside my IP has 3 Sauté settings - I just press the sauté button to scroll through them. Can you do that with yours?
Great video Jane the dumplings looked lush. Did you thicken your gravy? It looked thick I did a beef and baked beans stew today but needed to thicken my gravy. I used the slow cooker but will follow your recipe and use the instant pot when I next do a stew
As usual, I used instant gravy granules
Since you stated that you read all comments I will go ahead and leave one. I have an instant pot just like yours but am sort of afraid to use it because it is also a pressure cooker and I don't want to have a pressure incident. Silly of me I know. I must find the time to read the instructions carefully.
Follow the instructions and it’s totally safe
Could you tell me what size crock pot you have, as I would like to get one
I’m sorry I don’t know, I didn’t know they came in different sizes
@@FrugalQueeninFrance /thank you Jane, I have just ordered one
Swede in Scotland is turnip( neeps) we tend not use the white turnips i.e swede
Thanks for sharing
p.s did you do a mushroom soup vlog
Yes, arch next Friday, oh my goodness, it was amazing
How timely, I have diced beef for this Sunday so am going to do your recipe as it looks really delicious. Have plum filling home made, so plum crumble for us (I’m gluten free too), roll on Sunday! Thank you Jane and Mike, great idea to bulk out with more veg on the beef stew 😊x
