      @@TechDweeb Honestly now sure how I found your channel, but I sub and I like it. I'm an engineer, so two of those three are in use as a dedicated pi-hole and pfsense with the third as a spare unit. I chose them because they can do much, much more than what I'm asking of them, tiny and VERY power efficient (7W). I'm certain they will be doing other "stuff" later.

    Hey TD! Love your videos! I’m not very tech savvy but I love gaming. A couple of questions…first, can I use a wireless keyboard to set up everything? And can I use a Hyper Base SATA external 3 hard drive. SATA 3 to usb 3.0 super speed with thousands of retro games? I’ve had this External Hard Drive for over a year now and never even opened it. Any feedback from anyone would be appreciated. I apologize for being so not in tune with all this stuff. I’m a 66 year old gamer and disabled and gaming is really important to me. Well this is DDR5, and each DDR5 channel is actually 2 32-bit channels, it's not really 'single channel' in the traditional sense. Because of this we get much better single-channel performance with DDR5 compared to previous generations.

      Yup! Single-channel DDR5 is about equivalent to dual-channel DDR4. However true dual-channel DDR5 (quad-channel, essentially) is much better than single-channel DDR5, so the old 'dual-channel is better' adage still holds true, but the old 'single-channel is garbage' isn't. Hey there TD
    I am actually very interested in what this "Micro Mini PC" can do.
    What performance does it get running games in Linux? The same games as in this video so we can have a fair comparison. Distributions such as PopOS and Steam OS come to mind. Hope there are no driver issues btw...
    I am very curious to know what kind of temperatures it would reach if you "stress tested it". Ok, not with a synthetic benchmark but in a more real world scenario like exporting a long video or using handbrake. I live in a warm climate and having machines with decent airflow is an absolute necessity.
    These mini PCs have a very conservative power draw and I believe that this makes them perfect for having more than one attached on the same plug. Can two of these "Micro Mini PCs" be connected so as to form a LAN and play old games offline? I would love to introduce the concept of a LAN Party to my two lovely nephews who were born in a world where such things are a relic from the past haha!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  10 месяцев назад +2

      I'd definitely love to try Steam OS (or Chimera OS). I think I'll make a video about that in the near future.
      Good question about the temp. I kept an eye while gaming and I didn't see it coming close to thermal throttling, but the fan did pick up. And my place here in Canada isn't hot by any means so maybe in a warm spot it'd be an issue.
      I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do a little LAN thing! Haha kinda crazy thinking that we have PCs that can fit in your pocket. The younger version of me lugging his giant PC and CRT monitor to his buddy's house for some Starcraft and Duke 3D wouldn't believe how good we have it these days :P

      @@TechDweeb thank you for responding. I wish I knew more at my age of 53. I worked my butt off when everyone was learning this computer stuff and then became injured and disabled at the age of 40. I do badly want something to keep me entertained but I know nothing about emulation and roms or I would make my own since I have nothing but time on my hands. I don't think handhelds are where I would like them to be yet for preloaded and the ability to play up to PS3 like that computer and external hard drive video I saw if yours the other day. Where can I get that external lite drive that has ff9? And the cheapest mini computer to handle everything on that external drive? You were showing the pic to be almost 300 dollars and the external 180. I tried looking for the external and think I found it on Amazon but not sure. I know for some weird reason all of you don't like giving a concrete answer but if you could just SUGGEST what external drive and inexpensive PC will work and where to buy it I would absolutely appreciate it thank you
