His perviness is mostly Oda taking a gag too far. While Sanji was a flirt for sure he never went over the line Pre-Timeskip until TB. Thriller Bark started this bs with his desire for an invisibility fruit to perv on ladies, when really from a narrative perspective it didn't make sense that should be the reason. He said he wanted that fruit since he was a kid and had read it in the devil fruit encyclepedia, but he read that book while looked in a dungeon for 6 months while being abused. It feels like his reasoning would have been different, i.e. to hide/get away from his brothers/father. Then the stupid bloody nose gag which only makes sense as a Japanese gag, but really just takes a deeply layered and developed character and flanderizes him into one stupid joke, when Sanji has always been way more than that and hinted as more than that since we met him. Honestly, if it wasn't from people focusing on that gag they'd see why Sanji is the way he is. His love of women and care for them is mostly cause two women, his mother and sister, showed him kindness when he was so little. That shit sticks. Meanwhile he's only known abuse from men. Granted Zeff is a better father compared to Judge by a mile, but he'd kick him too, so Sanji just equates all men to be like this. His father and brothers are the reason he has such low self worth and willing to sacrifice himself a lot of the time, cause he's under the mental impression that if him dying could do something good then it'd be worth something at least. His desire for ladies when seriously examined screams of some desperate desire to feel loved. His fights with Zoro is a boy trying so hard to be acknowledged and thought of as worthy/equal for once in his life. He may appear cool and collected at times, but it's a facade of sorts, the sort of man he "wants' to be. It's why he took up smoking so young can he wanted to be an adult fast, to get away from when he felt weak and vulnerable. Sorry that went into a Rant, o.o;; Sanji is my fav character and I've always suspected for a long while when he was introduced and I noticed his mannerisms and the way he acted that he was potentially a product of abuse at some point. As someone who's been there, I always felt a strong kinship with him and wth Robin, so it was really frustrating when Oda just kept doing this stupid gag with him.
