- Sometimes, a product just doesn't live up to the hype. Wiiboox sent me their Luckybot 3D Printer Chocolate Extruder to test out, and I had some issues with the instructions, marketing, design, and pretty much everything else. If you're thinking about buying a Luckybot, be sure to watch this video first!

Just thinking about all the work you put into trying to get this thing to work makes my blood pressure rise. I appreciate the honest review. I have always been curious in chocolate printing but this aint it. I'll stick to 3d printed molds and vacuum forming for now
Yeah, I forgot to include me having to start all the way over because the Extruder cable arrives with the polarity reversed, so the chocolate extruder would move in the opposite direction when prompted.
What a mess!
@@AndrewSink Hi Andrew, much kudos for all the work you put into this video! I am sorry for the inconvenience LuckyBot brought with you since the machine you tested was the beta we launched on 2021. We have upgraded it and sloved the problems you met in this video. Firstly it won't have a fire hazard as we added the temperature resistance module(TRM) and this tricks the 3d printer into thinking it is always 190 degrees celsius at the nozzle. In addition, we wrote a program code called “For Luckybot” gcode file ,just run the “For Luckybot” gcode file before executing the print file. It is an automatic program to modify the E steps/mm of your printer = 750 . And the E-axis adapter wire now can solve that extruder moves in the opposite direction. We are always on the road of innovation. 🤝
holy molt man. I'm impressed you worked all the way through this. I would have given up much much much earlier in the process. good lord this seem liked a huge huge huge time sink andrew sink ;)
It's like watching a bad movie: it can be hard to pull yourself away, even if you know you should!
Lol no freaking way. I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out and tell you that you were on an episode of punk’d! Hats off to you for seeing it all the way through I think I would have thrown in the towel earlier on. Great video man 👍
Honestly, the smarter move here would have been giving up early! 🤣
@@AndrewSink I would have thrown this thing off a 30 story building after going through all of that, I received on in March 2022, so hopefully they have sorted out some of those bugs.
Yet another reason not to buy things on Kickstarter.
Great video though, you kept your cool all the way through.
11:45 THIS
Short of being fully Open Source (which i kind of get given how novel it is and the need to get a profit, maybe once v2 is released, os v1...?) it is AMAZING, and the passion by Evan and just the huge journey of it all.
Especially given the complexity of chocolate, i think that printer is unmatched, and would be really neat at a local bakery or something!
Definitely needs more hype, so glad you told more people about it too!
Much kudos for all the work you put into this video! I hope this can get improved as it has the beginnings of something really cool if they can work out some of the issues you mentioned!
Also, A+ for the new cat background on the printer interface screen 🤣
Man you went above and beyond in this review. I will never spend that much time to try make it work. That show how much you awesome 👍🏽. Amazing video 👍🏽
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I didn't want to give up, but oh man was that a lot of work just to get it up and running. There were a BUNCH of other problems I ran into that I didn't include, just to try and keep the video time down!
Interesting this pops up on my feed because I plan to get my lucky bot permanently installed in a few months. When I tested it a year ago I didnt have the install issues you did (possibly fixed by your comments because I had a kickstarter unit itself), but I did have the low torque motor issue. I never considered it was because low torque until you said it in this video. very interesting.....
Best of luck!
Thanks for reviewing this, I was considering this, but I don't think its ready for my kitchen yet,
Cheers!
Glad it was helpful! It’s a shame, it’s a great-looking piece of hardware, I just wish it was a bit more functional and safe to use!
thanks for this video... had my CC card out, then saw this. I will let this one ride for a while, don't have the time for such severe early adopter situations.
Yeah, it’s definitely not a turn-key solution. Lots of work required!
Great video. That loose hotend is great; the reddest of flags.
Yeah, for sure!
You’re a warrior Andrew!
Thanks man, this one was a pretty serious challenge. I think it's a beta, but still! Metal shavings! In the chocolate! 😂
@@AndrewSink yummmmmmm 😂
Cocoa Press all day!
I had the exact issues. I however removed the thermistor/heater tube from the board, then sliced with 0 for heat settings.
Awesome video
Thanks! Did you have any issues with your firmware preventing cold extrusion?
@@AndrewSink No. I sliced in s3d and set the temp for bed and hot end both at 0. printer began to print immediately.
I think the plastic bottom of the Extruder should not be there. there is a metallic nozzle in the package. I tried the first print and it looks like the printer do not communicate properly with the extruder piston. at some point, the chocolate stopped pushing and it caused gaps and empty spaces... Hard to configure when the box do not contain any details how to configure printer and also extruder. For example bed has 70 degrees by default which melt chocolate easily. is it in the documentation ? No.
Got one of these. They did make a change and added in a sensor that shows the nozzle temp at a constant 91 degrees C. Also, how do you level the bed ? Using paper or another type of measurement ?
I calibrated it manually; no easy way to auto-calibrate without additional equipment! The gantry is just up so high!
I have one that they sent me to review and it's been an adventure,, I tried it on my ender and wasn't even going to try the rest,,, size of print was my biggest issue with the Ender,, so,, I tore my Anet A8 Plus and got the space now and your right there is a lot of changing, fixing, printing other parts to get it to work,, I am at the printing part of it today,,, I have been working on it for a little over 3 weeks,,, crossing my fingers
Oh wow, three weeks? That's a long time! I hope you get it working; are you planning on publishing a video?
Damn I just bought creativity ender 3 and luckybot for puree stuff....
To be fair... you did the firmware flashing onto yourself. If you followed the original instructions you wouldn't have had that issue. It would be a fire hazard, but it would have been easier ;)
Disappointing. I’ve been buying a lot of products that don’t work or break on first use and I’m getting tired of it. How do businesses stay afloat with these shady practices.
Agreed, it’s discouraging to see so much of the troubleshooting passed on to the user!
It’s garbage
It's...not great.
