I can't believe how similar the first synthesizers sounded compared to modern analog synths. I can get these sounds on my Moog gear for sure, but the beauty is in the dynamics. Such great control over the movement of the piece! And I love the instability of the early oscillators. It sounds so fragile and pretty.
This is an extremely beautiful composition. I love listening to it. I wish more composers would use synthesizers, trautoniums, theremins, etc. in their compositions. THANKS for uploading this marvelous achievement of musical genius!
4:33 sounds like saxophones... The next piece seems to consist of trumpets. And then there's strings. The list goes on. Amazing what sounds you can get out of simple synthesizers. Anyway. A marvelous work.
I wonder if Aldous Huxley had heard the trautonium when he wrote Brave New World? "In the synthetic music machine the sound-track roll began to unwind. It was a trio for hyper-violin, super-cello and oboe-surrogate that now filled the air with its agreeable languor."
The timbre of the parts are fascinating. It is often very hard to tell the difference between the sound trautonium and certain woodwinds, like clarinet, saxophone and so on. It has a more realistic sound than the instruments in the early 2000's orchestral software sound libraries. 😊
I didn't notice tristan and isolde in this work, but since you wrote the second comment here referring to it, I'm curious where you thought hearing tristan and isolde?
@@BleedingEdgeOfProgress SNES instruments were often sampled from cheap synthesizers, though I doubt composers back then would have sampled a friggin TRAUTONIUM lmao. Still, they were probably taken from similar gear.

For those who are curious, Wikipedia does have an article about the Trautonium,
That sounds frighteningly acoustic !!
The first piece is deeply melancholic... lonely and lovely. Obviously a nod to Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde for the Berlin audience.
Damn thats cool. These pieces are extremely beautiful.

Incredible music!
This would be great for someone to edit for a brass trio. It would be cute.
You're right.
Beautiful indeed!
es muy expresivo el trautonio y está muy bien empleado aquí , en estas piezas .
Piacevolissimo.
A lot of top drawer Hindemith hiding out in these pieces. Who knew?
They sound a bit like Saxophones or Strings to me.
He obviously was using those 'musical' wave forms for the sounds.
found the trautonium via wikipedia - not the other way round - not via youtube and then looking it up,
me too. quite a gem.
good for you!

Is the connection with tristan and isolde form wagner with purpose?

The very first bars, obviously.
Tristan!
Yes. The harmonies remind partly of wagnerian operas, only further developed in complexity.
Is this Hindemith's handwriting?
yes ! holographic document : petruccilibrary.ca/files/imglnks/caimg/c/cf/IMSLP450085-PMLP732016-hindemithdeskleinenelecktromusikerslieblings.pdf
Chopboe? :) ❤
any chance of getting a copy of the music shown here?
Es más fácil y rápido copiarla a mano desde la pantalla, no tomará más de un par de días, máximo unos 5😊

Sounds curiously like a NES JRPG soundtrack....
which one in particular?
Some of the weirder parts from the NES FF games, and Metroid maybe....
