I agree take nothing away from zou kai. Zou deserved a medal but ihe won gold because the 2008 olympics was in his country and i believe horton should have won gold
Just saw him speak in a very small and intimate setting and he described this and all of the emotions during this event. He was a fantastic speaker and very inspirational.
Amazing. He took a brilliant routine he did wonderfully during the team competition and made it so much harder. He didn’t do that layout Kovacs with the full in the team. He didn’t do that layout Kovacs in the team. So he took the hardest trick he did in the team competition and made it-the least most difficult trick in an insane sequence. WAT?! 😱😱😱Absolutely phenomenal routine. And the dismount. Wow. Thought he deserved gold. That was spectacular and he didn’t sacrifice the execution to do it. It seems cruel that had he stuck that dismount as he did in the team, he would have won.
I really think this was just a fantastic routine - I don't know enough about judging etc to know if it should have been gold but I enjoyed this routine the most out of the final... it was amazing and very clean
he qualified into the hb final at the bottom of the standings. he souped up his routine so he would have a higher difficulty start and a chance at a medal. it worked!
@Manningxx1 For the other thing in the code the triple twisting double layout is called a fedorchenko. because fedorchenko was the first to do it off highbar. However the skill wasn't INVENTED on highbar. it was invented on trampoline by none other then Wayne Miller. He knows alot more then both you and me, so read up before you try to argue.
Oh c'mon. Some1 learn that comentator guy all the skill names. He kinda said dismounts not releases when Horton did all the kovacs. Btw the straight full twisting is a Cassina, full twisting tuck kovacs - Kolman. :)
@Bebbar If American commenter thinks Horton was underscored, it means he thought Horton deserved a better score than Horton received, it doesn't mean Zou did not deserve the score Zou received. But that's not even the opint, either Zou or Horton can only be overscored or under scored on B score. But the person i was disagreeing was talking about A score. And may be you shouldn't jump into other people's argument before you read their comment first.
Although I'm Chinese and I'm glad that Zou Kai won the gold, I think that Horton deserves that. I'm not a MAG experts, I don't know a lot about their difficulty scores, but his routine looks far more difficult and risky. and btw his dismount is ten times better than Zou Kai's.
@HotYoungMaster The BBC commentators did not directly say that Horton deserved the gold. Of the three US NBC commentators, Elfi Schlegel said after the scores were posted: "They're booing! They're booing!". Similarly, one of the BBC commentators says: "Whistles around the arena". Now, whistling CAN be interpreted as both good and bad, but given the circumstances, clearly they were not whistling with an accompanied booing? Followed by "I have to agree"--"That's the sport, he's taking it well".
@hames100, Terminology. It's made to be viewed by the general public. Besides he is British they have different names for stuff For the Yamawaki Markelov. the markelov came first and Yamawaki was called straight markelov for years until the more recent code of points the last 3 Olympic years began calling it Yamawaki. Because he was the first to do it.
@thepirateoftheninja - Zou Kai also "stumbled" and had a bigger step on his landing (nearly ended up falling backwards); i think Horton deserved the Gold! Zou Kai did an awesome job, but Horton was better this night! Same thing happened with the girls; both Yan Yiling on the AA competition (over-scored, specifically on the BB, 15.725) and Cheng Fei on the event finals (over-scored, finished 3rd with a fall); so let's be fair!
@Bebbar Also, please work on your logic, even if American commenter agreed Horton did better than Zou or he deserved the gold, it really doesn't mean Zou was overscored on his original A score, which was what i was disagreeing there. By saying he was overscored on A, it only means he didn't deserve the score he received. It doesn't mean he was worse than Horton. Plus, it is especially wrong to say his A score was overscored, because A score is not even depend on the juadges' opinion.
@Timboek89 Zou Kai's routine gives less flight elements than Horton's routine, but flight elements are actually not the most valuable.. you can have in-bar elements, el-grip and dorsal elements, that give more points than flight elements.
@hames100 Most of them were right but just not the common terms. Like he did a Yamawaki and they said Markelov, but in the FIG code of points it says Yamawaki is a Markelov with legs together. Or the Cassina or layout Kolmanm is just a layout Kovacs with a 1/1 twist. He used awkward words but they were still correct
The new code does that sort of, you're required to make less connections and not as many elements are counted, Nastia's UB set from 08 is only out of 6.2, whereas Kexin's is 7.1 (7.4 now), and Tweddle has around a 6.7. It's easier to get away with pirouettes on high bar though, as there aren't those costly past-vertical-handstand deductions like on uneven bars. It's pretty much the old code that let Nastia and Zou get so far on top with absurd bar start values that ruined the womens AA too.
@HotYoungMaster It is the same, they are agreeing with the audience that he was underscored to win gold. And NBC's bias has nothing to do with their observation of a booing audience, it is simply to validate my point.
@Bebbar Lastly, I was never agreeing or diagreeing whether Horton deserve the gold or not, neither was i agreeing or disagreeing Zou deserve the gold or not. So whatever you were arguing to me that your point is that the commenter thinks Horton deserve the gold or not is really invalid here. It has nothing to do with what i was talking earlier with the other guy here. What we were discussing was if the commenter agreed with someone that Zou's A score was overscored or not. Read first!!!
I still like the couple releases Nastia and Zou have though, Nastia's layout Gienger should be counted as an E, personally I think it's the best Gienger of all-time, she wants to add a twist so she gets an extra 0.3 SV. Zou's 1/1 Straight Jaeger was nice too, but it's the only release in the routine, HB is about high-flying and exciting releases as it's the most exciting apparatus on the men's side!
@MsMusiclover008 i don't think start values would have been that much of a factor considering zou kai had more form breaks, legs seperation, missed handstands, unpointed toes, a deep squat and step back on dismount. i believe that was more than enough of an equalizer for horton to win seeing how hortan really had one major mistake a step backwards on the landing. but whatever, cant change the past no matter how much i want to
It usually depends what combination and how it's performed, if you're talking about Nastia's high, high Gienger after her 3 pirouettes and piked stalder and endo circle all combined then I agree, if it's Yang Yilin's Tkatchev or Zou Kai's Jaeger then it's something else, styles like that are more at home on uneven bars. As for high bar, I think there should be more routines like Alexei Nemov's from 2004 with the same reactions to scores...
@Gr33nkiwi Okay, but as far as the Chinese being overscored, I think its pretty obvious that the home team almost always has the advantage when it comes to scoring. Even back in Atlanta people were saying the Americans were overscored purely because of the venue.
don't tell someone "fuck you" just because they disagree with you, who do you think you are? gymnastics is called ARTISTICS gymnastics for a reason, it's because we can judge based on style as well, and Horton clearly had more STYLE, just like many people say the russian and romanians women have more style than american gymnasts
@Gr33nkiwi I quoted every time because you said it, not me. And it makes no sense for the judges not to deduct just because she does it every time. The sport is about perfection, not rewarding those who've developed bad habits. I just have a hard time seeing judges allowing her to make the same mistakes over and over without penalizing her. It seems to me that if they did that there would have been worldwide outrage over her medal(something like Paul Hamm etc).
I think the zou kai one was cleaner, but i prefer this routine much more in aggression and style. i also prefer horton's dismount. for something massive like that he stuck it better than zou kais.
I think this routine was cleaner then the one Zou Kai performed, I'm not a judge, but somehow I've got the feeling that the chinnees gymnast got a higher score because the olympics were simply in China, so that had influence on the judges. The routine is awesom anyway! Anyway
@Bebbar That's not the same as saying another athelet's A score (difficulty score) is overscored. Plus, NBC commentators are Americans speaking to American audiances about a very tight competition after all.
The judges are WRONG!!! He should've deserved GOLD AND A BISCUIT!!!!!
Zou Kai has amazing difficulty, but in my opinion, Horton deserved to be the olympic champion.
I agree take nothing away from zou kai. Zou deserved a medal but ihe won gold because the 2008 olympics was in his country and i believe horton should have won gold
I’ll say that I loved them both!
I love the call--"that man deserves a biscuit!" This clearly, clearly, clearly was better than Zou Kai, who probably deserved fourth place.
I cant help but watch this all the time. Never boring .
Just saw him speak in a very small and intimate setting and he described this and all of the emotions during this event. He was a fantastic speaker and very inspirational.
he deserved gold
"THAT MAN DESERVES A BISCUIT!!!"
The BBC commentators make these videos so much better!
Best routine of the night by far. It's a damn shame he didn't win the gold.
I remember watching this all too well... disappointed he didn't get the gold! Horton was amazing!
Amazing. He took a brilliant routine he did wonderfully during the team competition and made it so much harder. He didn’t do that layout Kovacs with the full in the team. Me too. That''s fantastic. I *heart* the British guys' commentary!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so mad wen he got silver!
3 HUGE dismounts! LOL he deserves a biscuit. I love these people!
Definitely!
He deserved gold for that routine.
lol I love when the commentator says " he's a tough cookie"
I love him he is so amazingly talented and cute!!!!!(:
Go Jonathan!
I really think this was just a fantastic routine - I don't know enough about judging etc to know if it should have been gold but I enjoyed this routine the most out of the final... it was amazing and very clean
he qualified into the hb final at the bottom of the standings. he souped up his routine so he would have a higher difficulty start and a chance at a medal. it worked!
That man deserves a biscuit!

I just met this guy a couple days ago, hope to see him in London!
He is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That man deserves a biscuit AND a gold fucking medal! poor horton was robbed, he totally deserved gold
i don't think anyone here appreciates how difficult pirouettes are let alone putting a release after.
Is this the highest quality of the video?
triple-twisting double back layout!
just met him today! nice guy!
This kid OWNS!
Fabian Hambuechen, who won HB Gold at '07 Worlds.
I LOVE that commentator
well said
"That man deserves a biscuit" haha the commentators are so funny
Oh c'mon. Some1 learn that comentator guy all the skill names. He kinda said dismounts not releases when Horton did all the kovacs.
Btw the straight full twisting is a Cassina, full twisting tuck kovacs - Kolman. :)
this is greatest ever
hes the best on highbar
Love the BBC commentators. BBC has the best gymnastic commentators in the world lol :-)
soo powerfull!
hahahhahahahahahahah
"That man deservse a biscut!" hahahahhaah deffinately my favorite part! hahahha
Was Justin Spring in this final?
In my opinion he is the only "Epic" gymnast from America.
@Bebbar If American commenter thinks Horton was underscored, it means he thought Horton deserved a better score than Horton received, it doesn't mean Zou did not deserve the score Zou received. Someone has the full final up with these same commentators and towards the end one of them says he thinks Jonathan deserved the gold.
that man deserves a biscuit!!!
@HotYoungMaster The BBC commentators did not directly say that Horton deserved the gold.
Of the three US NBC commentators, Elfi Schlegel said after the scores were posted: "They're booing! They're booing!".

@journalistgirl07 you're freaking right!
@hames100, Terminology. It's made to be viewed by the general public. jonathan would have won the gold medal if the code was changed before the olympics, because kolman straight is now a g-element
@Bebbar Also, please work on your logic, even if American commenter agreed Horton did better than Zou or he deserved the gold, it really doesn't mean Zou was overscored on his original A score, which was what i was disagreeing there. epic
Biscuit in British English means cookie. Still a bit weird for him to say, but makes more sense than the American version of cookie. lol.
Now that man deserves a biscuit.
@Timboek89 Zou Kai's routine gives less flight elements than Horton's routine, but flight elements are actually not the most valuable.. you can have in-bar elements, el-grip and dorsal elements, that give more points than flight elements.

someone get this man a biscut!
After the Kolman: 1:02 Three huge, huge DISMOUNTS. What the hell?
wait, he had a different routine in the prelims and TF. why?
@MsMusiclover008 i don't think start values would have been that much of a factor considering zou kai had more form breaks, legs seperation, missed handstands, unpointed toes, a deep squat and step back on dismount. i believe that was more than enough of an equalizer for horton to win seeing how hortan really had one major mistake a step backwards on the landing. but whatever, cant change the past no matter how much i want to
@weflip12 I totally agree
That man deserves a biscuit
What about Yang Yilin's routine? Doesn't she build her start value through connections like Liukin?
His trainer jumped... so funny.
I totally agree. same thing for the womans gymnastics team
Zou Kai connects elements and does more pirouetting. Horton only connects some of his elements because he needs the windup momentum.
How does one get better than that? I gotta MEET the guy that got gold on this apparatus.
YES!!! BISCUITS FOR EVERYONE!!!
01:24 deserves a biscuit
don't tell someone "fuck you" just because they disagree with you, who do you think you are? gymnastics is called ARTISTICS gymnastics for a reason, it's because we can judge based on style as well, and Horton clearly had more STYLE, just like many people say the russian and romanians women have more style than american gymnasts
Sweet Jesus, you can just SEE his strength when he swings under the bar!!!

Anyway
How the FUCK did this not win gold? I just watched zou kai's routine and it's nowhere NEAR as impressive!
@Bebbar That's not the same as saying another athelet's A score (difficulty score) is overscored. Plus, NBC commentators are Americans speaking to American audiances about a very tight competition after all.
