Forget the Grammy Awards and western accolades. No big African star has ever been truly acknowledged globally. Africa should honour Franco, TP OK Jazz, Tabu Ley et al. We also have an obligation to disseminate their works across the continent as part of an African Renaissance and demonstration of Africa’s pioneering cultural influences 👊🏾🇿🇼🇿🇼🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩
We love his music even here at home in Zimbabwe
No validation from the West needed as long we continue to acknowledge our artists ourselves
I couldn't agree more
you left me speechless.
Couldn't put it any better 💯
Today is my birthday, and I am up listening to this song. if I ever meet Franco in the after life, I will legit thank him for making me happy in ways I can never articulate. I am grateful.
This is a golden combination. Rest in peace and power Luambo and Ley. You two are giants of Africa. Long will live their names into the future of futures. I thank my father M. M. M. Makokha for introducing me to this kind of music in the eighties by playing it incessantly. #Kenya.
This is a masterpiece it goes on and touches your veins, borne mallow and goes into your soul. Great talent by these Great Men of Africa.
anytime someone calls me, that's the tone, can't resist it.
I can listen to this song the whole day 🇰🇪
Still a masterpiece in 2023, listening to these maestros again and again! Rest in eternal peace.
It has entered 2024 still the master piece it was in the 80s. Rip ley rip lwambo.
I love my dad for introducing me to this kind of songs early...
One would never have thought a millennial would enjoy such but I do! And that's thanks to my grandpa and dad.

Wow..From the rich valleys of Africa to its throbbing rivers emerged sweet sounds..Legends lili
This is why I love Rhumba , it smooths my heart. Salute Franco and Pascal
Ageless music..the more time passes the more the music gets sweet...long live rhumba.
Ever since their row in 1978, Franco and Tabu Ley had grown closer. They remained spirited competitors, but a cordial personal relationship appeared to take root between the two great stars. Near the end of 1982 they were jointly honored by a Senegalese producer based in Abidjan, Daniel Cuxac, and New York record dealer Roger Francis, two men who often collaborated in the production and distribution of African records. They presented each of the two stars with a gold record for accumulated sales over the course of their careers. The ceremony, carried on Zaïrean television, was followed by an audience for the two musicians with President Mobutu.
Ley and Franco shocked their fans the following year, by embarking on a joint recording project. That they had decided to record together was astonishing, but the recording itself, the initial release on Franco's new Choc (shock) label, provoked more comment and speculation. Entitled Choc Choc Choc 1983, the two-record album was recorded with a mixture of musicians from Afrisa and O.K. Jazz along with guest artist ' Michelino' Mavatiku Visi, who had done time in both bands back in the seventies. It contained one song per side, 'Lettre à Mr. le Directeur Général' and three others, all written by Franco.
Thank you for this information. Choc Choc Choc was a masterpiece.
Justus Kiunga; Thank you for sharing this vital information about these African Greats. May God Rest their Souls and those of all our compatriots In Eternal Peace,
Could you please, translate it into English?

It's still mind-blowing to me that these two collaborated. I just stumbled on LYB album and it's incredible.
I will play it again and again as long as I live in this universe
Full of nostalgia, , all their song are the same; the flavor one song gives you is distinctively perfect and different from the other but all the same sweet. My father is the man behind my love for Rhumba and Franco, I do remember growing up around my Dad and his wooden cover radio radio that was ever playing this kind of music, he would raise up his hand and point one finger to the sky while his head is bowed and nodding sideways then later return to sculpture, soapstone curving, I mean he was an artist.... My father is a legend, may he live to see great grand children...May The they all RIP
More love from Nairobi Kenya +254
Two great singers.
They really performed.
Great memories.

This takes me back to the year I spent in Kinshasa. It brings back memories of when I hung out in the cite having a good time with local friends at any time of the day or night!
I personally attended the funeral of Gen. Lutumba Simaro with Roga Roga in DRCongo. These artists are gods. ❤️❤️❤️
Great arrangement, beautiful singing, lovely song 🇿🇼🇿🇼🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩
I had friends from Kenya 2 of them😢passed away..we will go clubbing drink the whole nite..this was their type..back home..like sun through the hour glass...so are the days of our lives..miss them🙄
That chorus line is so magnetic.... its being playing all day long in my head
i can hear Josky Kiambukuta in the chorus vocals
Both of them were the Giants in this music industry R.I.P our famous African rhumba
I really love this song, it reminds me my evening out on my weeding day, these were really gentlemen
When listening this music i think to my late father who was a great fan of those two great Masters of african music, their talent was genuine, africans are very proud of you, you'll never be forgotten.
💃🏾👌🏾
Song is 15minutes long and still too short! Legendary!
Sweet music that soothes the heart and soul.Big tune indeed.
This song , reminds me when I was on my attachment, along ngong'road , my Boss used to play it every morning,as we start our morning breakfast show
You've painted a picture for me man
Was this in DRC? Kenya?
In early eighties my father and his Friend Evans would meet at our home listening to this songs. I would hear them singing along dancing rochero and franco Luambo Luanze Makiadi in Kolongolo matisi trans nzoia county
Nostalgic
Great Memories from True African Music. Great African voices.
The best collaboration!!!!
Lwambo always has a story line so compelling. Even when you miss the story in the ballads, you still grasp the melody which carries a message. I am listening from Gulu in northern Uganda.
The message is for another day. Just enchanted. Wuuw. Lol

Franco and Tabuley collabo was baddest 😂😂💪
And Monsieur Directeur Generale jailed these guys for calling out nepotism in his government.
Légendaire combination of giants of African music. Merci mingi ndeko bakulutu keep resting in peace.much love from zambia
These are royalties for all the Bantus.

Just peaceful tune 🎉 the greatest Franco
I'm not bored with this type of music, in fact it reliefs me from some pressure
It reminds me of those days of KBC radio chaguo lako program by Eddie Fondo.
This was the album's set piece. It purported to attack the bureaucrats who ran Kinshasa's fading companies, but it wasn't much of a stretch to think that the Zaïrean regime itself was the real target. The song's refrain sums up its message: 'You have always been good, D.G/ It's (your) entourage that does harm, why?' It was the kind of critique that could be heard on the streets of Kinshasa as recently as the early nineties. The president is good but the ministers have destroyed the country.
The two maestros take turns airing the dirty linen. Ley observes:
A lot of people let their Bics drop
Everyone's become a businessman
Markets in the city have become congested, why is this?
Franco lodges a more personal complaint:
The entourage has compromised my work
They've told the D.G. that I make fun of Him in private circles, why is this?
Very true, after Mobutu elected to appoint incompetent and corrupt ministers to top positions. Franco criticizes for working for their own benefit instead of the people.
Thanks Lwambo and Tabu Ley, you were so courageous enough to stick your necks on line when things were bad. Only few people can talk of bad governance up to date.
The only minor mistake many do when talking about bad governance is not saying the root cause. The root cause of the bad governance is the Leadership coz if the Leadership is good then it should punish all wrong does regardless their tribes and friendship. May your souls rest in peace. At least you talked rather than being a sycophant.
True Amollo. Everything rises and falls on leadership
Good powerful music woth listening to.

THANKS FOR THE UPLAOD ,TWO OF AFRICAN BEST MUSICIANS EVER.
Très bon souvenir de mon enfance
I like @6.33 when the guitars and Drums sound like they are taking a break from an aggressive journey and resuming with humble start again. Afterwards @9.42 Tabuley's voice sounds like he is telling the guitarists 'we are about to end it guys'. Man! the instruments in this song were organized by wizards of Rhumba!
Whenever time allows me i listen to the songs of this two great sons of Africa.
