First time seeing Alcatraz was when I was stationed on the USS Coral Sea home ported in Alameda in 1977. We sailed past the island every time we went and returned from sea. When I got married my wife is from the Bay Area and we visited Alcatraz many times in the 80’s and 90’s. I always wanted to spend the night on the island when the park service offered it as part of a fund raiser. Tours were awesome. Former inmates gave talks, rangers gave actual guided tours and authors were in the gift shop signing books. Just returned to Alcatraz in April 2024 and what a difference in everything. Tours are now on your own with an audio player and you walk around. Not a great setup. Hard to follow the information and many times got turned around. They have greatly reduced the spaces one could visit back then. Did not see anyone giving talks or book signings. It was very disappointing to see how far downhill this once great had been. Thanks for sharing.
my father was a big fan of clint eastwood and watching all his films this was his favorite movie i know this movie out of my head but i can watch it every time greets from belgium
Thanks so much for doing this.im an Australian and I went to Alcatraz in 2000.i still have the audio tape that I bought there.its an awesome place.thanks once again.
I’ve been twice but always wanted to do the ghost tours there. I did Idaho State Prison last year and it was surprisingly open. Even the gallows and cells. Great job editing as always!!
An amazing view of a creepy location and historical site. Excellent cinematography, sound track, and splicing Then with the Now. Great info and video. Thanks for sharing. Awesome film.
I haven’t seen “Escape From Alcatraz” till now. Great movie based on a true story of a daring escape from the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Glad it’s not an active prison anymore. Not my ideal punishment home. And even to this day no one knows if those 3 escapees (Frank Lee Morris, and brothers John and Clarence Anglin) made it. Just disappeared into the night. Never found. I think the warden was right. They tried. Bu in the end, they drowned. Theoretically.
I remember Me and a friend went to San Francisco in 1997 and went on the Alcatraz tour ,I think they shut the tours down for a few years ,but I believe it's back up and running tours again ,I only live a hour 1/2 from San Fran i always wanted to live there ,but it's super expensive to live there ,visting is in my budget Lol
Nice work Jared. Such a great movie. Clint was 48 when they filmed this. He seemed so old when I first watched this movie, probably at the age of 11 or 12 on Dialing for Dollars.
They didn’t drown. They forcibly stole a car from a motorist on the mainland a few hours after they left Alcatraz. The victim reported it to the San Francisco police dept and the FBI told all of them to be quiet since they wanted the public to falsely think they drowned

Thanks for dropping in! I think you’re right about the tours stopping for a bit at some point.
Very nice job putting that all together. I think they got off the island.
