I really like that it's different types of Goth. Ariel is a more modern Goth girl, Mulan is more Victorian Goth (leaning towards male clothing), and Belle is a Fancy Goth. As someone who is Goth, super cool to see!

Snow White would make a great Gothic character, "skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as night."
There is also the fact that she survived many attempts a poisoning her, and the prince found her in a glass coffin.

It also brings to mind the identity of Snow White's birth mother, maybe she wasn't entirely human.

I'd almost call Mulan Steampunk Goth, if she just had a few gears or goggles!
Belle was hauntingly beautiful, although my thoughts are that the middle section of her dress could've been better as a dark gold, rather than gray. Even a hint of gold over the gray would look nicer, like tarnished jewelry.
Ariel was my favorite. I love her hair, and the clever fish nets!
I concur with this statement. I also think that hints of yellow in the trim would've looked cool.
I love how you reimagined Belle. She looks absolutely gorgeous. I would have totally worn her outfit to prom when I was in high school -- if I went, that is.
I like Mulan as a goth. Makes me think of Dracula and London is known for the clothing, and many gothic stories and movies like Jekyll and Hyde, or Sweeney Todd, and so on. I really like her in this style.
These are all really cool. Ariel looks like she would fit in quite well with The Misfits from an old 80s cartoon called Jem.
I really liked Mulan, as she was the most unique, but my favorite was Belle. That dress was so intricate! I also liked the limited color scheme used on that one.
I also like how you didn't put Mulan in a dress or skirt.

Love all of these! But that Belle is simply gorgeous! Though I find Mulan's design quite intriguing as well.
I love the Steampunk Mulan. It would be super cool to see more Characters done in that style with even more emphasis on the steampunk.
All of these are amazing, but Belle has to be my favorite for her detailed dress. Seeing those roses and thorns wrapping around the middle of the skirt was a great touch.

This came out so cool made me think it would be neat to see you reimagine the characters of a nightmare before Christmas as princesses! Like Jack and Sally of course but seeing an oogie boogie and maybe the three kids Shock. Lock and Barrel as princess in your style would be so fun

I don’t know if you’ve heard about it, but there’s this game/anime called Danganronpa. It has a lot of interesting characters with really cool designs. I would adore to see you draw something from that!

In my opinion,
the Ariel was more punk
Mulan made me think revolutionary and the fact that it is Mulan kinda got lost
Belle is by far the most goth and looks very nice and elegant

Belle looked a lot like she would be "Sleeping Beauty"/"Rose of Thorns",
(or even Maleficient), all those garlands of thorns, and I start thinking of the thorny briar hedges. Fantastic dress.
And I hoped Mulan would have combat boots, but she is an accomplished rider too.

My only dismay is that you chose not to use yellow in Belle’s design, but it was a creative choice and as an art creator I can respect that.

I love the Belle dress, but I did think that if you wanted to avoid yellow yet have a bit of familiarity, a deep gold goes great with black in gothic looks, whether it be metallic ribbon or shiny hardware😮 Just a thought, but I absolutely love your version as well 😄

Belle’s goth form looks like she’s about to go to a gothic ball dance! Each of these drawings is BEAUTIFUL and I love the concept of them!

You should draw enchanto characters as superheroes, with their gifts in mind. Like how Camillo shape shifts, and how Dolores can hear everything, and so on
It's a controversial opinion, but I see steampunk as a gothic style, and I think Belle would be amazing in a steampunk style. The hair is perfect for a little hat, and book in hand, walking stick with Beast's head on the knob. All these were amazingly beautiful!

I'd definitely like to see more of this in the future. The gothic cuties video was nice and all, but I 100% prefer this kind of more elegant, fancy goth. And if you can't guess from that, the Belle one was definitely my favourite.

I love it when you draw characters in different clothing styles while still making them recognizable! While I loved all three drawings, my favorites has to be Mulan!
Goths don't always wear black, they sometimes wear deep purples and muted tones of desaturated colors. I love the navy in mulan's outfit and the steampunk look.
I love the dress design you did for Belle! It looks different and I like the concept idea you came up with for her design it’s so inspiring
For Belle I would've done the bare cage of a dress (that sounds weird but idk how to describe it) the cage that used to hold Victorian womens dresses round. Just that with some loose yellow drapery over it maybe. I think the skirt cage would've looked dope :-)
A very nice video to end the year on Mei Yu. Great artwork as always. You turned 3 Disney Princesses into Gothic versions of themselves. While I may not be a goth aficionado I can appreciate the artwork nonetheless. Will you be doing a reverse video taking established gothic characters and turning them into Disney Princesses? If so may I suggest Raven from Teen Titans as a candidate.

And now story ideas for each princess as I'm watching because I have the memory of a goldfish!
Ariel: She's the youngest daughter of a very successful businessman and was raised to wear very composed and appropriate clothes whenever there would be a function. But as she grew into her teen years she started experimenting with her style more, but always keeping that professional feeling. While many on her father's board have tried to say that crop tops are not professional, Ariel always manages to prove them wrong and is actually working with her sisters to take over the business (lovingly so that their father can retire). This is when she meets Eric who doesn't share her style but respects her for not letting anyone tell her it's wrong. (Personal headcanon for this: Ariel has absolutely threatened to use her fork as a weapon when someone offended her sisters)
Mulan: As the only child of the Emporer's military advisor, Mulan grew up with a strict sense of duty. So when her father grew too old to continue to hold the position, it wasn't even a difficult decision for the emporer to apoint her as his next advisor and general after she saved not only his life, but the lives of over half his army. Rumors of the skull at her hip have circulated the palace since she took the position (the most popular one being she ripped off the head of an enemy and had it shrunk as a warning to all others). However the truth is she had a pet lizard when she was younger and it died so she kept the skull as a momento. The walking stick/cane serves multiple purposes, on the one hand during a recent fight her leg was injured and she is using it like that. It was also specially created as a hidden sword should the need arise. But even without using the hidden sword, she often uses it when a new recruit tries to challenge her.
Belle: Belle is a cursed princess. She grows beautiful enchanted roses that will never wither or die and can grant almost any wish once, but at the cost of the recipients strongest emotion and Belle's own memories. The enchanted roses are much sought after by other kingdoms and noble families, even with the price being known, but Belle wouldn't wish such a fate on anyone, and only reluctantly gives the roses to those who truly need them and understand the consequences. Despite all of this she is still a very happy princess and can often be found dancing through the halls of the castle and brightening the mood of everyone nearby.

Absolutely love the victorian gothic takes of mulan and belle. Mulan's reminds me of a female character in bloodborne and i love it. Belles is just classic victorian goth and the dress design and color scheme was amazing! I hope to see more of this style at some point :)

These were all great but Belles dress is so divine!!
These were incredible. I really love it when people draw Disney princesses (whether it’s as is or in a different style/theme), and I’ve just started to draw some goth characters. So seeing you draw some of my favourite Disney princesses as goths is just wonderful. I really loved them all, but I personally loved Ariel’s design the most, because A) she’s my personal favourite princess from the old school Disney princesses, B) her goth design gives off a cool modern. I’ve but is still stylish, C) I really love the fishnet style crop top over amethyst violet bra and D) I just really love how her Ruby red hair just compliments her stunning crystal blue eyes a lot (I also love how the green blends in well with her skirt). Mulan’s designs give off a cool steampunk style to it (reminds me of Caitlyn from League of Legends)...plus I just adore her tiny top hat. Belle’s design was just very beautiful, it was simple yet elegant and I love how the red (especially her gloves) works well with the black as well as how her ribbon collar adds a nice cutesy feel to it that compliments/contrasts the roses and thorns of her dress. These were very beautiful I can’t wait to see more Disney princesses as goths (if you plan to do this again...I’d love to see Raya, Merida and Elsa as goths). Great job as always Mei and I can’t wait to see what you draw next.

I liked these Goth versions of Disney characters. It would be super cool to see you do a version of these princesses with tattoos. It would be interesting to see what tattoos you would give them. It might be a fun creative exercise incorporating their individual stories into their tattoos. Anyway, just an idea if you’re looking for one.
