    Samsung is investing money in semiconductors and screens.
    They use these in their phones.
    Therefore they are investing in their phones too.
    Am I wrong?
    EDIT: They advertise their top components trough their smartphones, this is why the note 9 has 512 GB of storage (and 128), to force others to increase their storage by buying from them.

    • @getsomegoodstuff
      @getsomegoodstuff 5 лет назад +69

      Yes, semiconductors are mainly used for memory, displays and other home electronics and only part of that is phones as most chips in smartphones don't come from samsung. Displays are also sold to competitors so they are somewhat cutting profit off phone market for a larger profit in total due to selling the displays.

    • @nawarelsabaa
      @nawarelsabaa 5 лет назад +50

      Samsung's main profits in semiconductors are found in the memory sector (NAND flash and DRAM). Things like server memory and high-capacity SSDs for servers have huge profit margins for Samsung, PC RAM and SSDs are also very profitable, and they produce the storage and RAM for many top phone brands as well (That includes direct competition like Apple).
      Samsung is one of the 3 manufacturers of memory (along with Hynix and Micron) who, combined, control +90% of the global market, and Samsung is the leader in innovation among the top 3.

      It's actually quite a crappy video. 5G, AI, semiconductors and displays are obviously tied to phones. These technologies are powering innovative smartphones. Samsung invests in these technologies precisely to fight their way to keep their dominance in the future. Fact is they ARE losing on the innovation front to Chinese companies in recent years. Samsung isn't de-emphasizing smartphones, they are just straight up losing. That's it. No need for all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify Samsung losing their dominance. Samsung got their smartphone dominance through investments in display, memory, and semiconductors as well.

    Next year samsung reinvents the smartphone with the galaxy s10..

  • @MultiMrAsd
    @MultiMrAsd 5 лет назад +469

    S8 and S9 look similar for the same reason the S6 and S7 do. Samsung is only doing a complete redesign every second year. Also all screen phones are just not ready yet. Having small moving parts on a phone is not a good idea. Phones are abused and need to be durable. Vivos in screen fingerprint sensor is to slow. Samsung has a reputation for quality phones. They can't just release a phone that will probably fail in a few months. Vivo and Oppo have nothing to loose. These phones are meant to get attention to the brand and nothing more. Samsung will bring you a fingerprint sensor in the screen when it's ready. Their current notch less design still has a better screen to body ratio than the iPhone x. Also they didn't stop investing in Mobile. The main thing that sets phones apart these days are the displays and the CPUs. Samsung is investing more money in both of them. They need to catch up to apples CPUs. If u have a screen that doesn't require a chin, an in screen fingerprint sensor (investment 3 years ago) and a good chip, making a better phone is not that hard for them. They just don't need more money to do that.

    I disagree with the author of this video, I do not believe that Samsung is such a narrow thinking company which would leave their leading position in the smartphone sector to concentrate on something else. They have secured their position with the best screen and overall best android smartphone in 2018. Huawei is good, but they need to impress potential customers, so they must exceed customers expectation. I would say it is healthy competition in which Samsung is still one of the leaders on the android smartphones market.

      It's not the volume, it's just the wrong choice of music, and it makes the perception of the volume higher than it is. You're not unable to ignore it because it's too loud, you're unable to ignore it because it's jarring, repetitive, and the wrong choice for the vibe he's trying to create.
      People who are insensitive to harmony and only really hear rhythm may well disagree with this comment, and consider the music relatively inoffensive and a little upbeat, but if you're at all sensitive to harmonic and melodic content, the sound world this music creates is just 100% wrong for
      what Martin is trying to achieve.

    Samsung is still the most advanced phone company in the world even apple said that they just don't want to release their advanced technology that they've been secretly workin on since 2011 like their foldable probably the first company to get the idea of starting to create that technology secretly very early I know this because of leaked images on Google that the company it's self has shown but I just don't know why they won't release it yet maybe because they'll get to much money and they want to be nice to other companies but just wait they'll have a huge comeback later and their phones will be the best in the world not the most expensive though like apple 😂you'll see... to be continued 😂P.S I used to work at samsung 😉

    I feel like 2014 was the pinnacle of smartphones in terms of functionality and since then we may still get improved processors and that sort of stuff but it's mostly just about being flashy while compromising functionality.
    You don't really need much more powerful specs to run Android properly which means less need to upgrade which could be the cause of decline in sales.

    Samsung should compete aggresively in the midrange segment because android users mostly buy midrange spec phones

    What the hell are you talking about. Samsung does one camera update a year (S and Note lineup get same Primary camera), it does one chipset update per year (same in S and Note series). They have Exynos, as well as exclusive rights to implement newest SnapDragon SoCs first. Also, they have better versions of Amoled panels every year, because there isn't any better technology in place that is viable to produce right now. And why fix a great design, if it works? Smaller companies like Oppo, Vivo and Huawei can try and innovate with new fingerprint sensors, pop-able cameras and so on - Samsung will integrate the technology when it's ready. And Apple will possibly refine it in it's later stages, call it their own and milk people for it. The fact that Samsung has a in-house Exynos SoC is huge. And they're leading in Amoled screen production, cause they're the only one who do it. (along side some business partners). Samsung is great. They aren't slowing down, tech is slowing down. And Samsung integrates the most solid tech available at the time of phone production.
    Do they have flaws? Hell yeah, but out of Android phones, I like them the most. Pixel phones are close second (refinement wise, design is garbage), anything else is for the most part a one trick pony, surpassing Samsung in one aspect but completely face plant in other.

      The difference is that Sony phones were very overpriced and not to innovative. They're only big "feature" was that theyre phones are waterproof. But thats not a feature most people buy phones for. So when features like waterproofness and good cameras get mainstream, Sony phones get less desireble for most people. Samsung on the other hand made solid phones since the start, plus why would they retreat as the biggest smartphone company?

If a phone has 2 cameras, it shouldn't just be for depth. If more people see wide angle lenses, they'd love it

      I feel its like a hyperjump to change to that. But Samsung made non-flagships feels abandoned, so I'm trying to find the biggest bang for my buck and Oppo F7 seems dead on, except for the notch.

    Soon these Chinese companies will start manufacturing semiconductors as well and checkmate Samsung and Sony. Just look at Huawei their presence in smartphones was negligible a few years ago. Their phones were crappy, with super low budget offerings. Samsung was the king, along with Sony, Motorola. Xiaomi didn't even exist. Now look at their products, Huawei is killing it in the premium space as well as budget space with Honor. Xiaomi is rocking as well. Huawei already designs their SoCs, Xiaomi also started doing it recently. Huawei is pretty big they can take over semiconductor business within a few years.
