  • Málaga has many colorful restaurants offering friendly service and great food. Bar Malaga, founded in 1852, is among the oldest and the many framed pictures on the walls offer a look into the bar’s past. The food is good. The friendly and intimate ambiance encourages conversation and the opportunity to meet new friends. For a romantic evening, reserve one of the two balcony dining tables hanging over the street below. Other couples will be red with envy.
Asador Olvidio is an upscale steakhouse serving dry-aged beef as a specialty. While this is primarily a steakhouse, there is always a daily offering of two or three fresh fish selections. There is a well-balanced selection of liquors and wine. The service generally is good and attentive and the atmosphere is one of elegance with its white tablecloths and appropriate settings. Expect to pay a bit more here for a good steak. And, if you enjoy your liquor neat, there is a decent selection of good scotches and rums.
Gusto - There are two "Gusto" restaurants in Málaga. This one is in El Centro, very near Larios street, and is by far the better of the two based on experience. While most order their traditional brick oven-fired pizza Napolitana style, with its super thin soft crust, don't be shy to try their pasta and risotto dishes. All are excellent. If you like your pizza on the spicy side, try a Diavolo with added albahaca (basil) and aho (garlic) and cook it “muy bien tostada”.
Amigos has several locations in or near Málaga city. One is in the unique shopping mall in the town of Plaza Mayor. One is in the touristy Muelle Uno (port area) and this Amigos is in El Centro, very near Larios and the Cathedral. The Indian food is authentic and can be ordered as spicy as you like. The Mexican food is surprisingly good, but traditional rather than TexMex.
El Chinitas ranks right at the top as one of the most colorful restaurants in Málaga with an authentic Andalucian ambiance. It is known for being home to Federico Garcia Lorca, Salvador Dali, Picasso and Manuel Blasco Alarcon. Many famous flamenco artists have danced on the stage of El Chinitas. Paella here is quite popular but the menu offers variety, the service is decent and prices are reasonable.
