Only Gary Moore can make a sound like that. I know it's a classic Gibson tone, but the feel, the touch, and the passion are just so Gary. No one sounds like him.
Almost 20 years ago, my guitar teacher introduced me to Gary Moore and told me to listen to Blues Alive. Immediately this first song blew me away. I owe a lot of my bending skills and improvisation skills to Gary Moore. Gonna be a cold day in hell before someone will bend better than Gary Moore.
Gary Moore was a genius. You can find a simple example in this video, where he uses a single bend to find all the notes of a lick. Great guitar player, singer, composer and a huge influence for thousands of guitarrists that are also top players. In my opinion, he is at the same level as Hendrix, Van Halen, Malmsteen and other guitar monsters. He is still missed...
The solo for Shapes Of Things did it for me. It was my 1st time hearing him play back in 1984 on the radio. It has been the blue print for my soloing style ever since.
@@ajjy1110 YOU are wrong to assume that you know what I think. I was referring to Gary's ability to play ANY guitar - not just the one that everyone knows about.
Was a sad day when Gary Moore passed. He was an outlier in my guitar journey that became central to my own playing. Thin Lizzy, his various solo projects, all the way to his blues phase. A master of the instrument who played with fire and passion. RIP Gary, your legacy lived on!
My favourite Gary Moore solo is on "City of Gold" by BBM (Bruce/Baker/Moore). Most people have never heard of it, but it's a masterclass in how to write and play a fast rhythm and blues solo that builds twists, turns, progresses and builds to a searing conclusion. Absolute genius! Look it up everyone, you won't be disappointed
I've been to Gary Moore's gigs a few times - during the 80s in his rock/metal phase, and when he had become a bonafide bluesman. Phenomenal musician and instantly recognisable... I wish I could've seen him before his stint in Thin Lizzy, the stuff he did with Coloseum and Gforce was just decades ahead of its time. Cheers Gary! 🙏
As a guiter player I always loved his fast guitar blueslicks and solos. Inspired me a lot. Still I love them. He had great voice and was great guitar player.
me too - I saw him at rock city Nottingham, and then again at Birmingham NEC with BB King supporting. Inspired my guitar playing as a young kid learning
Excellent comment! I was driving my car when I first heard this solo and that two-whole-tone ultra bend made me jump on the seat. Gary... wherever you are... thanks for sharing your musicianship whit the rest of the world when you were among us and thanks for keeping inspiring us now that you are... you know... wherever you are. Anyone that can do that two-step bend and get both notes on any string gauge, in tune, is a killer. Let’s not forget Dave Gilmore on Brick in the Wall also.
After every song they had to spray Gary's guitar with a fire extinguisher it was so hot! He was the hottest player ever. No one like him before or since and there never will be.😊
This genius will never be beaten. Such a sad loss all those years ago. Saw, Gary for the last time at High Voltage festival the year before he passed. It was heartbreaking to see him not looking or sounding ( vocally ) his usual self, but, it was the best performance he ever gave guitar wise. My jaw was on the floor, and I’d seen Gary many times. That proved it was in his bones! Incredible talent and genius. Bless him 💞 x
I loved this …for me GM ‘s coda lead on the track “ Got To Give it Up” from Thin Lizzy’s Black Rose Album is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place

This intro is the most insane opening to a song I have ever heard, and ever since. I was so happy I purchased that live album when it came out. It rips your face off, Gary was not like other blues guys but could be if asked nicely.
Gary is the all time G.O.A.T! No one has the touch, the feel and the emotion that he has. The first song that I listened to was Out In The Fields with Phil Lynott and after this song my vision for music changed forever. Also started listening to Thin Lizzy a lot. Now every time I listen to one of his songs my heart just melts, they are all so powerful.
I attended that Superbowl at Jerry World and sat on the 50 (I got in free to boot). Needless to say I left on cloud 9, feeling life couldn't get any better. When I got home we heard the news, and it brought me right back to reality. The man was a true guitar god. And sorry about your Steelers, you guys will have some HOFers from that team, including Tomlin. Hope he can resurrect Wilson for ya'll. Pittsburgh is a cornerstone franchise.
I get what you're saying and yes, Gary was the greatest. But listen to the late, great BB a little and I think you'll see why he's rightfully considering the King of the blues.
His Blues Alive live album from 93 is absolutely astounding from beginning to end. The guitar playing is exceptional and the band is killer! Definitely one of my favourite albums.
Saw Gary open for Def Leppard in 1983. Loved his harder edged stuff from Thin Lizzy and Corridors of Power. Just found some vids here from his time with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. Would have killed to see them live but never knew about that supergroup, BBM, until I saw the vids. RIP Mr Moore!
I went absolutely crazy hearing The End of the World, then was so lucky to find We Want Moore and Live in Japan. After The War was just so incredible. Then came Still Got the Blues. I will say this, he's the only musician that changed genres and I followed.
Empty Rooms live in 87 was my favorite, his vocal and lead at the end were phenomenal, so emotional, brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat every time I listen to it, heck just thinking about it now has me tearing up.
I’ve got the live DVD that Gary did as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Incredible guitar playing and highly recommend getting a copy of it, sitting down and watching it 👍

Moore had a phenomenal ear, and I've heard his peers state many times that his ability to hit the note on the correct pitch was uncanny.
That single bend lick you mention is a direct quote, straight out of the Albert King playbook.
