Great review. Got mine 7/19 from SMKW for $196. This is my first Spyderco, and it is a solid knife. I like the basic, functional design and it feels good in the hand. A couple passes on my strop and it’s razor sharp now. It’s a good introduction to the brand for me.
Glad you're enjoying it! It's a great place to start. If you like the way this one feels and you ever decide to get a smaller knife, you should definitely check out the Native! It's one of my favorites. Thanks for watching!
I got the Bodacious at the beginning of the month and been using it for a couple weeks now and I really like it. I like the fact that it has a small ricasso and the edge is close to the front quillion. Not a big fan of finger choils. The S30v steel is great I sharpened it at 20 degrees first off as I do with all my knives and it’s still good and sharp. I do think it’s way overpriced, I got mine at knife joy for 180 bucks for the members monthly deal or otherwise I probably wouldn’t have bought it at full price
I would find it a lot more compelling at $180! That feels around right, especially within the context of Spyderco's catalog. Glad you're enjoying it! My negative feelings in here are admittedly colored by expectations, but I DID expect it to perform a little better than it did for me. It might be just the right knife for your needs! Thanks for watching!
Bodacious seems like a goofy attempt at something new like benchmade's adira or narrows. You mentioned the native 5, I'll say that's their best knife. So basic but optimal and none of the design traps they fall into.
I love the Shaman for what it is (albeit a bit overpriced now like most things these days, but I got mine brand new for $134 a couple years back), and the ergos are spot on as well. The Shaman is a solid knife - not super heavy duty like a Cold Steel 4-Max or AD-10 (but the Shaman cuts far better than the AD-10), but far more stout than something like a PM2. It's a great all-around, medium duty knife......good for the farm, the backcountry, working in the trades, etc. The Bodacious is a relatively uninteresting knife - if it was $150, perhaps it would be more interesting.....but they have to be high to charge $270. Well, better yet, people have to be high to pay it lol.
That's when I use my Spyderco Astute 3" length 3/4 high and it's easy to maneuver arandas tight corners that you're talking about this is why most of us plan before I leave for the day I decide which is my primary which is my backup. Primary the one I'm going to be using mostly from the get-go back up for heavier tasks.
When these were announced, I was planning on picking one up. Having a Shaman already and not needing another, I changed my mind. It looks like a solid knife but I will wait for something other than black G-10 and S30v, both materials I like but are so boring. It could have been blue and Spy 27 or something more interesting. Just bought a few more Spydercos on sale but passed on this one.
Good breakdown. I had one but returned it after a couple days. The stop pin was sticking out further on the show side & didn’t care for the aesthetics. It felt like a rip off to me. I knew I’d never carry or use it.
I had that same problem with the stop pin on mine! Figured it was a tiny QC issue, not worth bringing attention to, but interesting to hear yours had the same. Will be interesting to see how perception of this knife evolves over time...if people end up keeping it or not. = Thanks for watching!
This reminds me of the old, really low budget movies where the villain and hero would be the same actor, but the villain was wearing one of those black mask things over his eyes. Come to think of it, thats really just Spyderco's entire catalog the last few years. Aren't they also squeezing a skeletonized scale version from the Shaman stone? Have you ever tried the Amalgam? If you can get past the whole "compression lock flipper" insanity, its a pretty good knife. Edit: I'm sure it's a fine knife, just like the Shaman is a fine knife. I'm just really cynical about the direction spyderco is going, as a lot of long term fans seem to be.
The Bodacious is a great all-around knife IMO

So is this part of the Native line up like the Shaman? 🤔

The rounder scales were the ticket on the Shaman.
This is neither here, nor there. This square-edged handles are so tiresome.

Curious why you bought one if you knew you’d never carry or use it?
@@Jmon808 after I saw how underwhelming it was in hand is when I decided I wouldn’t use/carry it.
I bought the Ok clone, because they kept the thicknes of 0,15 like it is on Shaman. Thick chunk of D2 for 30 bucks.
Source pls!
Not enough difference to buy and overpriced
I don't like the locking system, but I do like the blade and the fact that the edge isn't being robbed by some stupid choil.
The compression lock can be a little finicky. I'd be interested to see a linerlock Bodacious. Thanks for watching!
@@CTKKnives How is the compression lock finicky??
@@CTKKnives no seriously how is the compression lock finicky?

Dude you have to learn how to Shaman... It's like a tribal Shaman... Medicine Man ect... SMH Shah-Man
