I just watched that same old ER episode and had to find this song. My sweetheart passed thru that veil 19 months ago.. 52 years of sweet marriage, children, grands and greats. We know what she means when she said "I will know you... When we walk thru that door beyond the grave". I am so grateful for my knowledge of our Father's eternal plan of happiness... And the veil will fall, and we will have Eternity, together as a family, again.
Almost unbearably poignant and beyond beautiful. She really did perform magic when she wrote and sang this song, there is truly something unearthly about it.
Unless he is over 6, or 7, when he died, the only way U will see him is if he accepted Jesus as his savior !! I KNOW U love him so much :):) God bless :):)
Don Blackburn I have only heard this one, but it is one of the few songs I’ve ever heard that can somehow relate to loss in gut wrenchingly beautiful way. 💫🎶✨
I lost my husband 31 yrs. ago.....and this haunting melody resides in my heart everyday, still. One of the greatest tragedies I have had to face-- I miss him still. My hope is being reunited with him when I leave this world. And in time, our children being reunited with us, so this time on earth will be the blink of an eye. We'll have eternity to celebrate :)
I i heard this song years ago on ER and I forgot all about it until I was watching ER reruns today. It made me think of my parents, little brother and older sister who are all up in Heaven. Beautiful song....! ❤
Just listened this for the first time. I wept! My husband died 8 years ago. If the rest of the song didn't get to me, the part of "raising this child" certainly did. Our twin sons were only 15 when cancer took my husband - their daddy. Yes, I can still cry after all these years.
I am so very sorry for your extreamly painful loss. I hope that with the love and support from family and friends that you can get through this very tough time.
I am so very sorry for your devastating and heartbreaking loss. I hope that with the love and support from family and friends that you can get through this very painful time.
In memory of David, a 12 years old who had put up an amazing fight against leukemia for more than one year. His last words to his mother was ' sorry mom, I can't go on ', he died later. That was a really brave boy.
To David's mom. I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what a parent has to go through or how they feel after the loss of their child. No parent should ever have to bury their child. Best album and song from this great singer songwriter Beth, we love to listen to here songs, just to suffer, and have thoughts to our litlle daughter who has lost here life to early at 9 years old, we can't forget! Dear Beth : please keep on writing !!!
Whew. Forgot how wrenchingly gorgeous this song is...I remember Elton John, on hearing it, proclaimed it "the most beautiful song I've ever heard about loss".
I dreamt about this song. I lost 2 brothers, 3 sisters and my parents in a car accident, I was the only one who survived, I heard this song the night before I had planned my suicide. I kept hearing it over and over in my head, in the end I don't know why I decided to keep on living. This one song saved my life, now I have a healthy life: a daughter, husband and supporting friends! :)

Hey Kathy, I'm very sorry to hear about your husband.I hope that with the help, love and support of family and friends that you will be able to get through that tough and painful time.
I also first heard it on ER and then on Charmed. It has brought my family a lot of peace. We share it when we can. I has helped us through our own pain. Thank you.
This song was actually "given" to me by a friend, who though of me when she heard it because I, too, raised a child alone; a child who wore her daddy's smile...
Totally brings on tears with me - haunting, beautiful, sad but at the same time filled with hope. The most powerfully touching song ever. And Beth is so talented and inspirational to me, both as a person and as a performer in my local amateur musical theatre group.
This song has such a deep and personal connection, in November last year, in his last couple of months he had moved into the family home, the house in which I live, watching him determined to fight his cancer knowing he would never beat, he always tried to hold on that little longer, he wanted to make it to the night of his fundraiser, and just as it finished, he slipped away although he was unable to make it he was there in spirit, I literally broke my heart, I had just witnessed my second father die right in front of my eyes, going through he'll those last couple months really took its toll on me but honestly I wouldn't change it for the world, he taught me to never give up and fight for what I wanted, I really is my inspiration and I literally can't wait until the day we meet again, my beautiful angel, the one I know is looking over me through everything, the one guiding me when I need him most, I love him more than anything, rip my beautiful angel❤❤❤
I sang this song at my mom's funeral. I don't know how I sang it thru with out crying my eyes out. After the funeral, it hit me. My mom was gone. Dead at 58 years old. I can't pick up the phone and call her, I won't get to hear her mom-isms. She is really gone. :'(

I heard this on ER in the late 90's. I right then searched for the song and intend to sing it at my father in laws funeral, if I don't break up crying that is.
Like many people I discover this song thanks to er,it was a episode recorded on video tape ,and for two or three years it was the only way to listen this incredible song.....then I discovered the story behind, and 25 years later I still find tears running down my face........ One of the most beautiful, inspired piece of poetry ever accompanied by music.
I have just found Beth l am so amazed by her songs and their meanings l can’t stop listening especially when they have personal meanings l will see her in concert one day ❤️❤️❤️

Irisheyzgrl24 Murphy I couldn’t find the clip, but there’s an old 70s show, called kung fu. In one of the episodes, while at the temple, Caine mourns his father. His old master Po tells him, “Each of you stands at each end of a bridge, waiting to cross. That bridge is grief.” I also like to think of that bridge as Love. I like to think that we continue. Please forgive my intrusion. All best!
It's 2020, and this song is still having a huge impact all around the world, bringing solace to so many. That gives deep meaning to the life of your husband. Someday others will find gentle comfort in the song when they grieve for you.
To Beth and anyone who has ever lost a loved one. I really am so very sorry for your extremely painful and extremely heartbreaking loss. I hope that with the help, love and support from family and friends that you can begin to heal.
Long, long ago, the Dalai Lama met a woman who was still grieving for her husband after many years. He told her to go from house to house asking for a grain of rice from every house who had never lost a loved one when she had a full up,she could cook and eat it and her pain would go away. Of course, she could find no house which had never experienced loss.she came to understand that death was a part of life.
First heard this song way back when it came out in '97 on BBC Radio2. They had a period of playing a lot of country back then (from my memory) and always loved this song :)
I listened to this after my uncle's funeral two years ago, and it has helped me to live with his absence in my life and come to terms with that I'll see him in heaven someday.
Likewise in Canada. Something to do with international copyrights or something, I think. It amazes me how singers can actually get through a song as intensely personal and emotional as this without breaking down. Don't think I could. Kudos Beth. Another great song, great performance.
love this song it always makes me cry :( i will surely sing this song for my mum when the time comes for her to leave this world, which i pray is not not for a very long time.. i will modify the words but the pain and heartache will be the same....its clear this song was written and sung from a lot of pain, loss and sorrow.... thank you Beth for this beautiful song....
I LOVE that episode. Last time it aired before today I recorded it and saved it on my DVR just so I could replay the scene with song over and over again when I want to despite owning the entire series. Its easier than breaking out the season 1 boxed set. My dad occasionally erases my saves so I just record it again next time its on and save it.
My mother died 10 days ago and I am completely heartbroken.....I cry all the time and I can't stop thinking about her and how much I am going to miss her....Every part of me is hurting and I am not sure how to cope with it... The only thing that keeps me sane is the hope that I will see her one day when I die....
Thank you for your comforting words...I do have a father and a sister, but I still feel very lonely without my mother because we were very close and she was the kindest and warmest woman I have ever known...
I promise it won't bother me if you need to talk to someone. I promise I will always be here for you no matter what. So if you need to talk to someone please feel free to e-mail me at aricsmackenthun@gmail.com. Remember my name is aric.
Apparently Beth wrote this lovely song before her husband died, not after. She is also said to have regretted writing it as though it was some kind of Omen? I do hope she continues to write songs like this. I feel it was perhaps her best
I first heard this song when Beth sang it on the Merv Grifin show (I think) with special guest Bonnie Raitt. I immediately went out at bought the CD. It's a great album.
FINALLY!! I'm watching Charmed episodes and after hearing this song in episode 4 of season 1 i finally hunted it down. :) Love it sooooooooooooooo much!
My husband died on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, June 1 st at 10:30 on my arms. I still remember you Greg. The kids still cry when your name is brought up. I will never be the same. My heart still aches for you. (3)
tatjana, I have no words, there just aren't any...... I am putting my Faith in believing that there will come a day we all meet again. Peace to you....
Yes. This song does appear in the episode where Mark proposes to Elizabeth, which is also the episode with Abby and the Carter at Doc Magoo's. The episode is named after the song "Sand and Water - season 7, ep 2.
I dedicate this song to Chelsea, she was a victim of sexual assault and sadly took her life. To her family, I am so very sorry for your extremely painful and extremely heartbreaking loss. I truly hope that with the help, love and support from family and friends that you can try to heal.
I first heard this song years ago on "ER". I was moved to buy the album, and I can tell you that many of the songs on it are just as heartfelt and beautiful as this one. I highly recommend it. Thanks for sharing, and to anyone who's listening to this because they need to find some meaning in loss: you're not alone.
How true. Most modern music keeps people angry and aggressive, and they think this is most necessary for survival. If it kills the heart, the wellsping of the soul dries, ending life even if existence continues.
BNC's rare first album, from 1980, is now on RUclips. Just search for "Beth Nielsen Chapman Hearing It First" It's got a couple of really nice gems on it!

Hello 👋, how are you doing? Hope you’re having a wonderful day!
My mother died 10 days ago and I am completely heartbroken.....I cry all the time and I can't stop thinking about her and how much I am going to miss her....Every part of me is hurting and I am not sure how to cope with it... The only thing that keeps me sane is the hope that I will see her one day when I die....
I am so sorry for your loss.I hope that with the support of your family that you can and will get through this very tough time.
Thank you for your comforting words...I do have a father and a sister, but I still feel very lonely without my mother because we were very close and she was the kindest and warmest woman I have ever known...
you are very welcome. please feel free to e-mail me anytime you need someone to talk to at aricsmackenthun@gmail.com. My name is aric.
Thank you for being so kind... I can write to you, but I don't want to bother anyone.
I promise it won't bother me if you need to talk to someone. I promise I will always be here for you no matter what. So if you need to talk to someone please feel free to e-mail me at aricsmackenthun@gmail.com. Remember my name is aric.
I can tell you from experience, and from friends' experience, that songwriters do break down. Usually though when this will be while writing the song.
Apparently Beth wrote this lovely song before her husband died, not after. She is also said to have regretted writing it as though it was some kind of Omen?
I do hope she continues to write songs like this. I feel it was perhaps her best
Love this song.. Put this on my dad's Memorial on Facebook.. Beautiful lyrics and voice. Thank you

Had this on loop after my son died suddenly.... Straight through the heart and into the soul! THANX claudex13
My husband died on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, June 1 st at 10:30 on my arms. I still remember you Greg. The kids still cry when your name is brought up. I will never be the same. My heart still aches for you. (3)

Yes. This song does appear in the episode where Mark proposes to Elizabeth, which is also the episode with Abby and the Carter at Doc Magoo's. The episode is named after the song "Sand and Water - season 7, ep 2.
Yes emergency and Charmed. This song is very beautiful
It will alway be my tribute to my baby born still in October of 1985. I never got to hold you, kiss you or feed you. I love you always Rory.
i keep returning to this beautiful song as i can't find anything else to top it
Same here!! I had it stuck in my head afterwards and is why I'm here now! lol
I dedicate this song to Chelsea, she was a victim of sexual assault and sadly took her life. To her family, I am so very sorry for your extremely painful and extremely heartbreaking loss. I truly hope that with the help, love and support from family and friends that you can try to heal.
This song is amazing. Thanks for uploading!
This song reminds me me of dear high school friend whom I will never forget.
I heard it today on Bob Harris's Country show on Radio 2.
My SIL died this morning. I find this song so intensely meaningful.
Beautiful.
amazing song cant believe there's so few views considering some of the crap out there that get hundreds of millions :(
How true. Most modern music keeps people angry and aggressive, and they think this is most necessary for survival. If it kills the heart, the wellsping of the soul dries, ending life even if existence continues.
Elton John cried to this . 😪
BNC's rare first album, from 1980, is now on RUclips. Just search for "Beth Nielsen Chapman Hearing It First" It's got a couple of really nice gems on it!
Loved this song
