Seiran was the one I had the most fun in the demo and is probably still the most fun in the full game, can't go wrong with bnuuy, even if the game itself is cursed
I agree on any route which involves chiyari being incredibly tedious, words can describe how much I deteste fighting chiyari, it was near impossible with mamizou.
I highly recommend trying Yachie, she is a very fun character to use. Chiyari also deals a surprisingly high amount of damage, probably the same as Seiran.

this game feels like HBM but there’s 19 marisas and each of them have a slightly different equipment card and also there’s no magic circle except for like 3 marisas for no discernible reason

I feel that this is the beginning of the new era of Touhou. I loved the new characters (especially the girl in purple dress), the music feels fast paced (like the ones in TH8). Something I would have liked to see is Seiga, Shou, Satori, Mokou, Kasen, Seija and Alice in this game.
This game is truly a culmination (but not necesarly endings, who knows what will happen in the future) of what I like to call "The capitalist Era". We had the gang fights with the animal spirits, Yuuma went to get oil, the cards appeared, there was a black market and now it's like the bubble of house market broke... For a series that kind of always was about change vs tradition, this last part of the windows era was really relevant to our modern world...
I feel like touhou by now has a problem similar to pokemon, there are too many releases too often. If ZUN went for a 3 year development cycle between major releases instead of 2, the games would become much much better. But he won't. So imo the only really great touhou games these days are fan games.
imo it's also kind of annoying how the cpu just never dies and you win by surviving all boss patterns rather than reducing cpu lives (unless youre chiyari). whats even the point of the cpu if you can just wait out the boss patterns? also hopefully multiplayer can get fixed. the lag is insane, i only managed to play once at like 10 fps

I think i might be that one person who liked playing As like,Sanae,Ran and Rin. I think reimu was just made way too powerful to the point where she breaks the game tbh

In terms of cast and OST, on the other hand, they're incredible. I think 17 and 18 were fantastic for gameplay and good for newcomers. My favourites are 4 and 5, which no one talks about. Each era seems to have its advantages to me.

i think 16 and 17 are *generally* pretty well liked, and i think 18 just depends (some cards make the game a joke; on the other hand, NMNBNC is not that fun; limiting yourself to certain cards is probably a nice middle ground) 16.5 and 18.5 are *definitely* not well liked at all (and 17.5 isn't a shmup) but i think if there's any touhou game that might get balance patches, especially for a theoretically multiplayer VS game, it's this one... so, here's hoping that happens maybe?

No. The same goes for Yachie and Yuuma too. No matter who is the final boss (Suika, Yachie, Yuuma, Saki or Reimu), it's always Zanmu's theme playing as practically that is the final boss theme.

It's probably the Touhou game I've found most disappointing though, even with the expectation that I wouldn't like the system. I feel like my wishes for a new versus shmup was a monkey's paw... The worst though? Eh, I wouldn't go that far. At least while VD exists, the bar is still 20 feet underground. It's low on the totem pole but definitely not the worst, I would say

Apparently that achievement is bugged because it takes into account the enemies lifes instead of yours.
