The draft was bullshit. Forcing ignorant children into an unwinnable war that had little value to the United States was evil. I'm not sure that anyone is a hero when they invade another country for bad reasons.

I deployed in 2012. I can't speak for Vietnam veterans. We lost three people on my deployment, and had many more wounded. One of our guys had a particularly difficult time after we got back home.
Anytime we offered him help or to try and get him out of his funk, he would just say "Don't worry about me, guys. I died back in 2012" with a stone-cold expression. That's a darkness that is borderline impossible to overcome.
Even all these years later, can still see the anguish and sorrow of that experience. ♥️

The walking dead ripped out with us in Ramadi when they got stood up again. A guy from 1/9 and a guy named Cpl Yale in 2/8 who went to SOI with me got killed by a VBIED saving everyone else. His rack was directly across from me, he was going through 0352 course I was an 0351. I don't know why I said that, but he was a nice guy, him and his partner from 1/9 saved everyone that day. Dad was awarded 3 Purple Hearts 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars, when people would ask him how he earned his medals he'd always say, "Well they ran out of C rations and they had to give us something to eat" and laugh it off he would share some of his stories with me and later when I joined the Corp it gave me a whole new perspective of my father.
