  • Are you confused about which certification exam to take? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In this video I will lay out the differences between the two exams, point out which one may be better for you based on your preferences, and provide some helpful tips for picking your exam! This mainly pertains to FNP and AGNP students, as other specialties do not have to choose an exam.
    If you have taken the exam, or have other insight, please let me know! I'd love to hear about your experience as I get ready to take my boards this spring!

    Which exam are you planning on taking? If you’ve passed, which did you take and what tips do you have for success?!

      It seems that the ANCC option would benefit for future retirement from clinical practice. 🤔 Thanks for explaining. I took the AANP and passed. Previously I couldn't imagine taking both.. but since watching your video I may consider taking the AANC and keeping both certifications.

      I used Fitzgerald (online workshop) and passed the ANCC for FNP. I also used the Leik review book. My tip is give yourself a deadline (SMART goals, right?), create a study schedule, hone in on your weaknesses (mine were psych drugs, geriatric pharmacokinetics, and infant milestones), and review your school notes. Best of luck on your Boards everyone 😊

    Obviously Passing the AANP &ANCC is when you study hard, if you can’t study or you don't have time for your studies l'd advise you get yourself a help like Mr Dylan

      I have a cousin who never studied much, we studied together but she gives most of her time to her phone than studies after writing the AANP test last month she passed and I failed 😣, I asked her how she did it , just found out she got her help from Mr Dylan.

    great information, thanks! Because of this well-explained and very detailed information, I've decided to do the ANCC. I want to have the option to teach full time with possible minimal or no clinical work at the age of 70 or so (lol). I also prefer the letters BC after my fnp, haha. Thanks Liz!

    Recently passed ANCC-FNP. It wasn't easy but the drag & drop, SATA, pics, matching & non-clinical qstns breaks the monotony of answering ALL clinical qstns..which is GREAT if ADPIE isn't a major strength of yours. My years of experience as both a Family Practice & Internal Medicine RN & RN Mgr prepped me for answering Peds, OB, leadership & mgmt type qstns..especially the immunizations, vaccinations & Erikson's stages of G&D qstns. IMHO..I can see RNs with inpatient, ER, psych or LTC experience having difficulty with both exams, as pt care in those areas are totally different from Family Practice. Choose exams wisely based on your strengths..if you're clinical, can differentiate Outpt vs Inpt standards of care, & prefer ALL 150 multiple choice qstns..do AANP. If u know Outpt ADPIE is a struggle for u, do ANCC where you're tested on research, mgmt, leadership, & 175 qstns includes pics, SATA, matching, drag & drop etc. Best wishes!

    Both grant board certification, so it’s confusing to mention that one doesn’t. It’s just the certifying bodies have different letters.

    I took the AANP a couple of weeks ago. IT was a hard exam but I passed. I took it because I tend to favor being clinically strong. Not to keen on theory (I know it important) but I wanted to be tested on my clinical knowledge base. Also I live in AZ so i know the AANP is excepted well here. I used Leik and Hollier to study. I thought about taking the ANCC (just because I hear it is accepted internationally) too but I am so burnt out I think I am just gonna chill and relax. Good video.

    • @cinder5268
      @cinder5268 6 лет назад

      Oh as far as the AANP and labs when I took the test and came across labs; there was no need to write them down the labs and norms were always on the screen they were part of the question. SO i did not have to write the down. Leik says that in her book, but it was no the case in the test.

      Cinder congratulations!! That has to be the best feeling in the world! I 100% don’t think I could take both exams, I’m already mentally exhausted and I haven’t even taken one. I can’t hang with theory. So I feel you. Thank you for all the info and congrats again!

    My professor mentioned that the AANP allows you to take the exam faster, and actually certifies you faster, and the ANCC can have you waiting for months. have you heard anything about this? I can't seem to find anything online to back it.
    Also- this may be for another video- but have you heard about jobs taking months once they hire a NP to do their credentialing??

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  5 лет назад +5

      I was able to register for aanp while still in school. Couldn’t test until after I graduated, but could do all the registration. I don’t think that was an option with ancc. So that may make it faster! Also when you get a job, it’s the insurance companies that take forever to credential you. It does usually take them about 3-4 months. Some employers will let you start before then and shadow, others make you wait until the insurance companies credential you so that you can bill under your own name.

    Hey @Nurse Liz, I just wanted some clarification on how to qualify for these tests. So if I were to go to school with an FNP concentration, am I excluded from taking any other test besides the FNP one? For example, am I not eligible for the ANCC’s pediatric one?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  4 года назад +1

      That's correct. You would need to get additional education to qualify you to sit for exams other than FNP

    I want to thank you for this video. I took the
    exam and I failed, but the crazy thing was
    that I knew I wasn't ready however, I still took it
    hoping I would pass. After receive my results I
    went to RUclips searching for others who failed
    and your video came up( even though you didn't
    fail) but your advice and the tools you used and
    posted in this video helped me...I did exactly
    what you did. I bought nurse Steph's complete
    nursing handbook on Esty. I bought Archer review
    and stopped using Uworld, and I was already
    using simple nursing which was great especially
    with pharm...I used Registered nurse ANCC to
    brush up on my math...but what really helped me
    the most was Mrs Cynthia High-yield and using
    the method and ASK GRAPH format it helped
    with breaking down the question & puting them
    in my own words. So I thank you, thank for
    everything. I passed last week.🕺💃🕺❤️
    Also I will love to share her telegram handle
    content her if you need any help and tell her I
    share her info to you please..😊🫡
