  • Studio Session Series vol XVII demonstrates a custom vocal effects chain created to emulate industrial music legend Front Line Assembly vocalist, Bill Leeb. The song, Lifeline is from FLA 1992 album Tactical Neural Implant. To create the unique vocal sound of Bill Leeb, AmbionicA used Universal Audio, D16 Group, Antares and Arturia plugins. The project was written using Ableton Live and Vegas to edit the video content. Bill Leeb has an incredibly unique voice and the attention to vocal effects processing is unrivaled. His is the most complex and difficult to emulate of any vocalist or band I've encountered. Similar to an actor playing a role, he creates an original vocal sound to fit into each song and for this reason it took many attempts to emulate the great Bill Leeb. This is my best attempt to date. I hope you dig it!!.

I remember seeing them live 1st time in 1995 and i was talking to a tour tech guy who was also allowed in the area behind the mixing desk. There was this man high effects rack next to us and i was like, wow that's an awesome rack. And the guy was like: yeah, and this is just Bill's voice. 😀

Fantastic. I really appreciate the work you put into these chains and videos. I have two albums worth of vocals to record very soon and learning how those sounds were achieved (or modern approach to) is quite helpful. I hope to add some of my own flavor into said tracks but having a fair idea of how to achieve certain sounds is very valuable, thank you.

Nicely done! Love that song. Also hope that album some day comes to Spotify, know it's supposed to be in some countries but not here in Sweden.

thanks mann... i didn't spend enough time getting pitch on that 2nd vocal right but it was just for the idea of it. this was always one of my fav FLA tracks. i contemplated doing Isolate or something from Hard Wired.

There's bits that remind me of Ministry's 'Revenge' from 'With Sympathy' in this one. Nice breakdown!
