I play this game so many times now.
I even S rank the first mission when i first play it without relying too much on the guns and I don't regret playing it.
Honestly, I do not see the dislike for this game. It is a little more slow in the wrong way compared to the others, but I really enjoy it. The only real criticism I have is that there is no in-game guide for the combos.

Itsuno should remake DMC2 so that Lucia can come back to the lore of DMC, all of the gameplay issues will be fixed, revamped story, and it's 19 years of black sheep status will finally be removed from this game#ItsunoFixDMC2
I'm going to be honest. I've only played Devil May Cry 1 and this game. I REALLY want to play the others, but I haven't been able to purchase 3 yet. However, even I can tell that this game needs more love (both appreciation and a remake), however, if I am being extremely generous, Dante's changed demeanor could be a result of losing Vergil for the second time (in his mind at the very least). The thought of being so close to getting his brother back, only for him to die could have a temporary effect on Dante's mind. However, as I have stated, I haven't played 3, 4, or 5 and I have no idea how the timeline works (because 3 is a prequel, correct?)

When I create that so called Capcom/DC/Shonen Animated Universe I hope to create. I’m planning to give my adaptation of Devil May Cry: 2 a complete overhaul. Cause my version of Devil May Cry: 2 is going to set up what would be my first Capcom x Shonen crossover between Devil May Cry x Naruto: Shippuden. One of those possible changes would be to change the character of Lucia to Hayan Park from the WEBTOON comic name Unholy Blood. In my version Johan would find the way to completely break Hayan living her to submit to him and obtaining her Heart. Feeling himself invincible and alone Johan decides to CLONE Hayan the experiment is a success but the clone goes Starkiller mode and escapes Johan’s grasp. The clone would try to hide and make a name for herself, while Johan starts to get manipulated by Argosax in a attempt to unseal himself from the Underworld. Eventually the Clone of Hayan gets taken in by Zatana and Constantine that would be replacing Matier in this possible version of mine. The clone of Hayan would tell what has transpired and the Dual of Magicians would contact Dante leading to the events of my version of Devil May Cry: 2. NOTE: this is just one of the versions of how I may go for my DMC2 adaptation not the official one.
