I'm Mariah Alice, and I live the "solo female van life" with my dog, Finn. We've been on the road full time since June of 2020, and although our road has been met with what feels like a zillion ups and downs, we've finally gotten to the point where living in a van feels like home. Sometimes we're alone in the woods, sometimes we're alone in a desert, sometimes we're chasing snow or thunderstorms, sometimes we're trying to see all 50 states, and sometimes we're making weekly videos here on RUclips talking about our feelings, anxiety, loneliness, seasonal extreme sadness..... yeah. I don't know what I'm doing with my life. And that's okay. I think :)

Stoked on this friend group! I can tell you have a pretty tough exterior when it comes to letting people in and trusting yourself around others. But it’s awesome to see you break that barrier down little by little. I really don’t like giving advice (especially unsolicited advice lol), but from personal experience the moment I stopped describing myself or my experiences as awkward the less awkward I started to feel. I’m probably just as awk as I used to be but I’ve tried to stop beating people to the punch in that way if you know what I mean. Much love ❤️

I relate to being inhibited in social situations, even at my age. And yet everything kind of spills out with such honesty in your writing and on camera. I’ll bet you’d be surprised at how accepting people would be of you, even with all of those vulnerabilities. This small group of 3 seems like the perfect match for real connection. Also, Finn’s tail 👍.

My heart! So... I make RUclips videos in a similar spirit a yours but have been living in one place for a while - I'm just about to pack up my whole life and start living on the road (or maybe slow travel) in the next few months and there were a lot of things that you directly or indirectly spoke to that I just needed to hear/see. Not sure how to describe it... but more and more I can feel myself anchoring the concept of "home" being redefined and expanded - something we find within (something I've known but packing up my life is showing me another layer to that)... and "belonging" as a more fluid concept. I loved "Where the Crawdad sings". How appropriate for you all to see it together. They just don't make many movies like it anymore.
Your comment on books vs. movies made about books made me think of a book that you would like. "The art of racing in the rain". I read the book and saw the movie, but the book was a 14 out of 10. It's not really about racing, and I know that you love dogs. I cried twice, but the ending is worth it.
I was in Jackson last week and thought of you! You referenced being there in your last video so as I drove down the Main Street of little Jackson I waved to all the other van lifers!!! What a great place.
THE Olympics are a top fav of ours. At Hurricane Ridge after 10pm, the stars are on the billions as deer roam around the parking lot. The Ho rain forest and wilderness beaches create a perfect playground.
I see you went hiking at the lyre river land trust property. It is one of my fave places here on the OP (I live near Port Angeles). Glad you enjoyed the peninsula.
Daughter and her family just got back from Olympic National Park and had an amazing time. Your adbentures and my kids makes me want to get out into the garage and find where the tent is. Keep having fun

The three best van gals around, wonderful how you and Anna look up to Christian but I think She needs you two sometimes just as much or more. I really liked Port Townsend better than Port Angeles, but of course Port Angeles has more (cheaper) shopping and is closer to Olympia and free camping.

So glad you had a great time in Port Angeles! I luve in Chehalis like 2 hours from there. I am from the Eas coast and hv been here for 5 years. I absolutely ❤️ it here. I live right on the Newaukum River it's in my back yard! I will live in this state forever!!
There are no rules in "Van life"...... It is the freedom that is the reason for doing it.... And meeting new people is all part of the adventure.... Spending time with friends is just a bonus.... :-)) xxx

What a delightful video! It’s heartwarming to know that you place such a high value on friendships. It’s not a real stretch to see how difficult it is to find them given the van lifestyle you’ve chosen. I suppose it’s a harsh reality, that living the lifestyle you choose, requires some sacrifice. Anyway, re-decorating, new bedding, consideration of a van upgrade in the future, you’re doing great. All the best…

Mariah sweetie, I drive ALOT because of my work. Hense, I have a little over 300k miles on a 4 year old truck. Anyway, I am always amazed at the number of female van lifers I bump into. It makes me happy that you can form these kinds of friendships and have this kind of sisterhood even as a solo traveler. I just did a drive around the Olympic peninsula a couple weeks ago! (I live about 4-5 hours away, near Yelm) If you haven't already, I definitely recommend checking out Cape Flattery the next time you're in the area. It has those cinematic, wave-ravaged cliffs/cliffside caves that look amazing! I took a camp chair with me (it's a very short hike) and just enjoyed the view and the sounds of the crashing waves for an hour or so 😌 I hadn't dressed properly for the cold ocean breeze so I missed out on a sunset, but maybe next time 🙂

I don't know if you are aware or interested, but there are some apps including Google Maps that allow you to share your location ONLY with selected friends. Could be a good way to cross paths while on the road.
