- Grateful Dead perform "The Wheel," "I Need a Miracle" and "Uncle John's Band" simulcasted from Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY to the Farm Aid concert in Austin, Texas on July 4, 1986. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.
For more information about Farm Aid, visit: farmaid.org/youtube
Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?
I miss the Whole scene. Especially the Crowd. Crowd watching was a Blast. This Boston Dead Head isn’t the same without Jerry and Brent walking Gods Green Earth. God bless em both.
I was sitting here for a bit, thinking of what to say. Then, I read your comment and realized, I couldn't add anything more. You nailed it.
Not Fade Away.
Jerry Muzak it’s not the same without looking forward to a show to go to. I miss the Shows at the Old Boston Gahden. Saw em do the whole Terrapin thing there. I was sitting rite above Jerry in The Balcony. I will never forget that. That show is on CD out there somewhere.
Go to Dead And company. Get over Jerry's passing. Get over John Mayers voice. The crowd is absolutely awesome. Full shakedown streets. Grilled cheeses , good drugs (and bad) Its the whole scene lol.
When life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door. RIP, Jerry.
Robert Hunter wrote that.
Ain't no time to hate/Barely time to wait
Jerry looks so effin cool here. So chill and focused. Badass.
One of the many, many benefits the Dead did through out their existence. A band full of soul and compassion... If I had a dollar for every benefit I went to in the '60s where the Dead were I could buy a good bottle of wine. A good bottle of wine.
Trouble ahead, Jerry in red…. Fortunately his coma (6 days after Farm Aid) was a wake-up call. Cleaned up his diet, kicked the Persian (for a few years) and Miraculously came back stronger than ever 💪
...an agrarian nation.... right on bob weir for keepin it grounded
For 6 days before a coma Jerry sounds amazing and looks "healthy".
On
Time
@Daniel Fernald bad weather for heroine
He is overweight though.
that weather in dc that iast show fuckef him up they say obviously more than that but ..... was hot that dsy
Fricking awesome example of the synergy between the Dead and their crowd.
I was there! It was a great day!
Illinois 🤩
Jealous
So much love, hard to believe it was real.
It was.
We had the best music in the mid ‘60’s - ‘80’s! So grateful.
Remember that, they said "don't worry, it never rains on the 4th of July" and played Cold rain and Snow.....and it started raining. The Dead, Dylan, and Tom Petty at Rich Stadium in Buffalo. I was there, right up front for a few hours.
Is that you Eddie if so I was with you .✌✌✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I was at Farm Aid II Manor Downs and this was shown live on two giant Diamond Screens placed on each side of the stage with audio through the huge speaker system. Went out national on VH1. Fabulous. The Dead were friends of Downs owner and this was their last "performance" at the race track, played there six times, starting in 1977.
Remember this show very well man I miss Jerry and Brent 👍
This. Was there years before I moved out to SF from NYC. My 7 years there have me such wonderful memories
Am I the only one? Do you realize they went... Wheel>Miracle>Uncle Johns Band...one of those things that you just HAD to be there. I've been to the venue, great place to watch a Dead show.
I was there faced ! Tom Petty was next. Then Bob Dylan w TP and the Heartbreakers as Dylan's band !
Man won’t ya try just a little bit harder. That line rings true so much today 2021 good will win.Americans need a miracle now
The greatest!
Wonderful to see this. There’s another clip out there with Cold Rain and Snow.
Alpine, Akron, River Bend, Buffalo, and on to DC. Summer of 86 was good, good times
So glad i found this again! Def my fav version of I need a miracle!!
Man I sure miss this!
Listening to Greatful Dead at Farm Aid concert. Thanks for posting it. Love.
Just a correction they were playing in Orchard Park and then simulcast at Farm Aid.
I’m in there somewhere. Caught Cincinnati, Akron and Buffalo that summer. Great memories.
A great version of The Wheel.
I wonder why Jerry didn't play the pedal steel guitar on live shows...he was an outstanding player.
I was at this show .Rich st. Buffalo 86. I was 16 years old shrooming .it felt like a hundred degrees.
I was there too, also 16. Acid and MDMA
God Bless are Farmers!!
Thanks for including the Drums!
1-800-Farm-Aid!
Hope y'all stay dry up at Alpine today.
Oh man, where is the rest of this?!!? for the love of all that is right in the world ... the whole set .. this is in such good condition.
They only played these 3 songs, gotta rotate artists quickly for the event
@@Alex-th9tw no they didn't i have the full broadcast. not in this quality though. maybe 75%
@@Alex-th9tw GD wouldn't show up to be hurried to play 3 songs and be rushed off stage.. they woulda just turned it down :)
@@Hazard4K oh what all did they play? I looked it up and all i could find are these ones
@@Alex-th9tw Cold rain and snow > Fire on the mountain > Samson and Delilah > The Wheel > I need a miracle > Uncle John's Band > Drums > space > Gimmie some lovin'
at the very least. (that's what i have on my personal copy)
but ok.
"America is in fact an agrarian nation, let's keep it turning." -- Bob Weir. Other performers at the Buffalo show that night were 10,000 Maniacs (Natalie Merchant), Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan.
Amazing! The Lord God heard, and sent the rain during thunder drums ! Like thunder from heaven!
I was there. What a cool colorful time.
A big a time as it gets….thanks for sharing ❤
wow!! this is just what I needed after a long hard day at work. This fantastic clear pure video is very groovy, thank you for posting.
and here we are 5 years later and your words still ring true! Hahahaha!
Peace!
That was a good uncle johns band I feel like that song gets overlooked because of the greatest hit’s album but the
Psychedelic breakdown is classic seas all the way
Small wheel turn by the fire and rod/ Big Wheel turn by the Grace of God/Every time that wheel turn round/Bound to cover just a little more ground.
Something to really think about.
Jerry is a very underrated guitarist
I know what you mean but he's really not. He is held in high esteem and regard as a player and composer.
@@sjeanmacleod only by deadheads. Everyone outside that scope calls him an “aimless noodler”
@@brandonvalentine2555 Disagree. Yes, I’ve heard the noodler complaint but he’s highly respected as a guitarist.
@@mrmojorisin8752 everyone ive talked too who isnt a deadhead says “isnt that the guy who falls asleep on stage and noodles?” Hes definitely 100 underrated to the average person. I mean hes 30 something on Rollingstones top 100. He should he in the top 10 atleast
@@brandonvalentine2555 He was ranked #13. High praise. I can’t speak to the average person’s views. He’s highly regarded by guitarists and many “experts” not known as deadheads.
RIP Robert Hunter. See you on the Other Side!
The musical interpretation by Garcia and the lyrics of the poet Hunter= priceless!
...trying to find myself being escorted out during UJB, got busted taping FOB. Took more shrooms, drove to Niagra Falls and rented a helicopter to fly over the Falls during the 4th fireworks. Pilot hovered right in front of them as they went off. Unbelievable trails.. Jerry looks much better here than two nights earlier in Akron
This is Buffalo 1986. I saw it. The Dead opened and this is the second set. first time I saw the concert on a tv at a concession area at the concert.
Illinois
I found the bus in 1985 so this brings back some good memories and goose bumps.Jerry always wore a red pocket t-shirt back then later it was a black one
Great. I didn't know they had played at Farm Aid...don't know why I didn't catch this earlier...nice show...nice video. Nice upload. Thanks to who ever put it up here from us. I was fortunate to see them play many shows at Cal-Expo in Sacramento , California when the crowds began to be to big for the some of the Bay Area. I also saw Bill Graham...walking around checking out the crowds before his accident.
They've gone simulcast on a couple different live aid shows that I know of Buffalo, NY& Madison Square garden I was at both.🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸✌✌✌
could two guys ever have more polar opposite pants then garcia and weir in '86??
My first show!
good catch, I didn't remember seeing them, I really don't remember much
some guys had an ice chest full of Margarita early in the day
You have to pace yourself and I didn't .
SRV did tear it up, I think he was last to play...
i was going round and round to like grateful dead said all in the family, went to Texas
My first show.
All of it
Cannabis “ it makes you behave “ mr Garcia R.I.P.
USA Bread basket of the world,, Glad the boys played this benefit,,,
This would sound fantastic in stereo soundboard!
I was there!
80,000 of US there!!!
I like Brent's "Live Free or Die" shirt!
Granite State - NH 🏔
Bob Weir fashion icon
Let's keep it turning
Never saw Jerry's hair that color before!
still missing the man
Ireland forever 🇮🇪
The ADM/Cargill/Monsanto machine steamrolled our family farmers clean away. Valiant fight, though, Farm Aid. We are still losing to that unholy corporate triad every single day. Unstoppable, sadly.
RIP Jerry
i was at this show my 4th on the 4th mean fire without the scarlet
great show. wrong date for farm aid. 86 was with Dylan and Tom Petty in Buffalo.
G.T. Sauer I drove from Houston to Austin in the summer of 86 for Farm Aid II. The show was at the Manor Downs, just outside Austin. A live satellite feed of the Dead and Neil Young were what drew me to that show. Epic, as the young kids say
hate to post but must boast. Miracle on board!
I was there
I was there. Summer tour. Thanks mom and dad.
Exactly!!!
RIP Jerry Garcia
I bet Mike Campbell was somewhere on the side of the stage watching...😏👍
Nice! Please correct the show info above to simulcast from Orchard Park, NY - July 4 1986 for Farm Aid. Thanks for posting.
🦅
Nice designer Jordash Mick
even wrecked on smack, Garcia is still Jesus
Why is Jerry's hair brown and gray and not black and gray?
everyday
✌❤🐻
I was there .I got on stage with willy.
Trouble ahead, Jerry's in red 😔
✌
Wrong info here - July 4, 1986 the Dead played at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY which was simulcasted on Farm Aid.....just sayin :)
Jerry wearing Red.
wow I never knew pretty cool
If i share it again?
I wonder who has Garcias cabinet now, hope it's somewhere cool as it deserves
+FortWarren Hell I take one of his picks he used :) or that guitar (I believe its called tiger)
+Daniel Weston / a cool thing I learned about tiger, it has a little secret compartment built into the back, & when it was auctioned off the millionaire who bought it opened it up and there were still scraps of budd in there ;) supposedly a true story
+Daniel Weston / at least we have thousands of hours of audio and video footage of my favorite band!!
This was 6 days before Jerry's coma.
hey cmon we could all use a light summer coma now n then
I was just thinking the same thing...
Jerry in red, trouble ahead. 4 days after this performance Jerry slipped into a coma.
Trouble ahead Jerry in red?
Trouble ahead, Jerry in red
Billy
lmao, okay Bobby, we can let the shorty shorts pass but, what about those shoes! ;)

Sorry for the previous comment, my 1/8 inch plug on my headphone just bit the dust.
Fuckin Jerry, man.
yo
It was a good run, before pop strangled any life, and all diversity from the industry.
it rained that ,..hmmm idont remember
There is not Bob Dylan here.
Nobody brought any smartphones
NFA
You heard of god
nothing more musically satisfying than a feisty jew beating the tar out of a loosely tuned bass drum suspended in mid air.
Both drummers are Jewish. And both are absolutely amazing at it.
Billy isn't.
