      Good for you! I got a GEN 5 0311 this spring, and it is the longest and most forgiving driver I’ve ever owned! I’ve put it up against the Stealth 2 and Paradym and there’s virtually no difference! Except 300 cheaper!

  • @hawkman302

    I use the R15. Love it. I don’t make enough to justify a new driver every couple of years. Most of the clubs I have were purchased as old models on sale. 5 yards more for a club that costs $500-$600 is a hard no.

    • @craciunator99
      @craciunator99 Год назад +1

      Its not really about extra yardage from the center anymore, they hit a wall, its about the forgiveness which has definitely improved since the early 2010s

    • @hawkman302
      @hawkman302 Год назад

      @@craciunator99 fair assessment. I still wouldn’t spend that money just to hit straighter.

      @@hawkman302 Oh no definitely not for a brand new driver. But a couple year old one yeah, I got a SIM Max last year upgrading from the SLDR and it goes just as far and significantly more forgiving. I got a new shaft and now Im hitting it farther than I ever have in my life and super straight.

    This is a great example of how big of a waist of money new clubs are! I was told by a golf coach if you play 2 a week and go to the range 1 day, then you should get 10 years out of drivers and woods, and 8-10 years out of irons. He did say the only thing worth changing every other year is your wedges! The groves do wear out faster than they use to. He said just pay attention to your yardages, and if you see any fall off then time to change!

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but the R1 is all stock and the Stealth 2 is fitted, correct? If correct, get the R1 fitted with the proper shaft and spin might come down and ball speed might go up.

    I think, the r1 sounds different but good! I also like the white look of them. I hate taylormade making yearly (!) new woods. Their work seems a huge story without any concept for the products but for a story to tell. I played last year with a scratch golfer - he sticked still a m2 driver and told me that there is no better one made by taylormade till today. The SIM2 maybe is also a really good one.
    Nevertheless one day i will own a fairway wood by taylormade, maybe a stealth plus.... But first James i wait for the set of mizunos you will bring to a bulky waste soon because of your change to the PXGs! Have a nice weekend!

    £100 for the R1, £500 for the stealth 2. That's 400 quid to spend on the therapy you'll need to get over the sound and feel of the R1.

    10 yards is about 1 iron. Over 10 years of “advancement” not impressed by that. And wouldn’t make me switch clubs. The forgiveness would. But definitely not that minimal type of distance gain.

    Wouldn't a better example of a comparison be the Stealth 2 v SIM 2. Obviously people still do play with an R1 so they would be interested BUT really? I'm in the market to replace my Ping G15 Driver. I'm not going to replace it with a 10 yr old driver. I'm more interested in the newest models, whether Ping or Callaway or Titleist or Taylor Made etc etc v's their previous two models that I could pick up for at least £200 less.

    Sure the r 1 was harder to hit. But the head ten years later is still in one peace. How many stealths heads have you cracked or broke. Lets see how many you shatter in ten years. Peter has already broke two of them. If I spend that much on a new driver it better hold up for more then the warranty

    I think your not the best person to showcase the difference as you hit the middle the majority if the time where the results are way closer... The average person that misses middle most of the time would see much greater performance differences... E.g. the forgiveness of the newer clubs is waaaay better...
