Why can’t all mechanics be like that? You can’t even get the oil change done right now
@@jimmyg5636 I know, it makes you wonder if you should even bother to take your motorcycle, etc. to the dealer for service...
Another gem. You are knocking them out of the park lately.
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations young man!! I’ve watch your channel for about one year now. So nice to see a young man who is one, passionate about what he does and two, has the drive to work his tail off. Very impressive to see someone who is driven, like you, to keep at it until it’s figured out or finished. I’m sure your parents are very proud of you. Keep up the good work young man.
I was looking to buy a unit for search and rescue and the other members warned me to not buy anything with a belt drive because they said the belts seem to break at the worst time. That Arctic cat belt looked really hard to change out in the field. I bought Hondas. Great job!
Can't go wrong with a Honda!
I sure hope that dealership had their service manager and technicians watch this and ALL of you videos. You have a very simple and pragmatic approach to troubleshooting that works every time. Nice job Joe, keep it up!
They don’t care
Joe loves what he does and works hard. They probably don't.
With how much shop time costs these days and how labor intensive this machine is to work on? Probably cost a 1500 dollar bill (or more) just to take all that plastic off and ANOTHER 1500 dollar bill to put all that plastic back on!
Yanno what REALLY surprised me was that cam gear which SHOULDA been where it can ONLY go on ONE way! And THIS woulda NEVER happened!
BAD design!
This says something loud and clear about the dealership mechanic.
NS eh 🤧
Dealerships are just Part Changers--- they are not into the troubleshooting process--- If they can't find a simple part that needs just replacement--they will not spend much time on it.
Yeah there are a lot of those filter -oil changing - cert mech these days
@@jdxjim agree just had an issue with this at a International dealer. They did all sorts of things and still could not figure it out. The book tells them things and they do not use common sense at all.
I love watching this channel I've actually did a rebuild on a dirt bike from watch this guys channel. Keep it up man.
I'm sitting here at home saying this is a timing issue before we get to far down this rabbit hole even. No idea why a mechanic, someone who gets paid to do this stuff, doesn't know it's a timing issue. Good on you Joe, easy way to make $3,000-4,000 bucks without really spending a dime other than your time...
I was saying the same thing. Timing. But he always gets there in the end.
Theres many things it can be that will be causing the same issue but yea the mechanic should have been able to figure this out
How in the hell can a dealership work on this for 2 months and never figure it out that it was out of time. This is why I never take anything to a dealer. If I were you, I would send this video to them and maybe they could learn from you on how to probably diagnose a problem. Better yet, you profit from their incompetence.. Like I've asked a couple of times now Joe, please look at my machine and make it great again. Keep up the great content
These dealerships need to get better engineers, because they should have found this problem. But a great win for you.
The dealerships in my area couldn't change a spark plug gotta do it yourself nowadays
What would an engineer do at a motorcycle shop? They have crappy mechanics because of low wages offered
They can’t even find enough qualified folks to take out the trash
@gutsgorrrr
You must be British, where anyone in the trades is called an engineer, except plumbers, lol.
Great Job Joe!...you were step by step eliminating things until you figured it out and then rectified the issue. It's a pleasure watching your videos. Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Great job finding that. I had a motorcycle where the mechanic messed up my timing when he changed a part. I’m 75 and can’t remember the name of it. I had to fight and threatened to Sue the dealer because my engine was knocking. They said I brought it in like that.. They finally fixed it right when I showed them the video of the timing error they made. Keep up the great videos. I learn a lot about troubleshooting watching you. I think it was a one way bearing they changed and messed up my timing
That dealership technician is sweating bullets watching this right now.
They probably didn't want to fool with it because of its age. That or they're incompetent.
@@lifeontheX they just lost 3-4k because the timing was off. That’s either a bad technician or bad dealership management.
Whoever worked on that should be fired as a mechanic
This is what he does. Some stuff he does drives me nuts. He loves to kick an kick that kick start when he knows it not gonna start. Also he always misses a shift from 1st to 2nd gear, insane!!!
Probably not, doubtful he is paid well enough. Good mechanics around here are independent and work for themselves, especially if their spouse has a good medical benefits package.
The knowledge this young man has is astounding.
Joe, WOW! Your patiently thorough diagnostics pay off once again! A win that took time but not a boatload of cash! Congrats and Kudos!
I’m thinking it must have been a noisy cam chain so the dealer replaced the guide and inadvertently/big mistake put it together. The dealer wrote it off and we’re probably paid by attic cat. So fun to watch your videos Joe superb work, unmatched!!
Great call Joe!
We always like it when you troubleshoot, identify and fix, without a bunch of whining and complaining!
👍👍
I sure hope that that dealership has your phone number to call to come and get all of the 4 wheelers that they cannot fix. You are quite disciplined and quite the mechanic.
The MASTER did it again. Wow what a great mechanic. Joe will be a MULTI MILLIONAIRE in less than 10 years. All because of his great mechanical SKILLS and the internet. Great job.
I have one of these Wildcat 1000s and think you had another video on this model before? Anyways wanted to give you a couple heads up in case you don't already know. These things have a known issue where the starter can really screw up the case. It's best to start and stop these things in Neutral rather than Park or in gear. The dual fans are supposed to work automatically. One fires up at one temp, the other fires up and runs both at higher temps. Mine doesn't have a manual switch so that other manual fan was probably added. Also on the 4x4 switch, if you slide and hold the little switch on that same switch it should lock the front diff. It's helped me a few times when I was stuck. Love your videos and was stoked to see another Wildcat. Don't see them that often where I'm at.
Thanks for the info!
@@2vintage No problem and I forgot to tell you something else. Hold both buttons on the gauge down until you see the display change. Then you can cycle through things like water temp, air temp, fuel pressure, tps, voltage, etc. Comes in very handy during trouble shooting. If you decide to keep this rig, Tusk makes an awesome easy to install bolt on tire carrier which adds additional roll cage and a storage shelf up above the bed. Put that rack on mine and it comes in super handy.
This guy is not a mechanic. He is a problem solver. Clearly everything he approaches in life he handles it methodically. ❤
Great job.
Joe - I hope this makes you feel better about mis-timing the engine in one of your previous videos. To error is human, but to persist in error is diabolical. You found and discovered someone else's misfortune. Nice Work!
I am thinking that dealership that sold you this is second guessing their technician right now…you pretty much showed their incompetence. Great video Joe you are the best channel on this app!
Good morning Joe glad to see you got another one going I see.The thing I like the most about watching you is you finish a project within usually two videos maybe three. I used to watch vice grip garage but he would start a project and it take forever to get back to it. He always had too many things going at one time. Keep up the good work.👍
Crappy design but you solved it AGAIN.Thank you for sharing.
Seems that it was designed for rapid assembly, not for ease of maintenance.
yeah not an easy one to work on
You're older vids are popping up!! Y'all have come a long way in 2 years, your house is beautiful!!! I enjoyed the walk through time!! Keep up the good work,I'm learning a lot watching you work!! Happy New Year u ,vin, jade!!!!😊
Great job man! you should include a video of opening up that jump box and smashing the audible side of it. I suspect that video would go viral.
I watch Joe during my chemo visits. Every time his jump box squealed, the nurses came running. It was funny to watch them check all the iv tube's. Finally one of them figured out it was the video I was watching. LOL
I really enjoy watching your methodical approach and results. Your delivery and camera work are excellent. There are some presenters out there who could take a few pointers. Well done.
You need to do the test drive at the dealership’s parking lot!
I often wonder if sellers watch his videos and what their reactions are!
Artic Crap!…. It’s embarrassing what these engineers will do just to get their name on the list of utv’s available.
Small town Wisconsin, betting there are elderly men riding lawnmowers to the bar, drive UTV to the dealership to buy a belt or a filter
I agree say remember this and ask to see the tech that worked on it and have him pay back the dealer for wasting there time and money
Yea and maybe the dealership could learn something from watching Joe.
Good job Joe, you are getting better every day. Crazy the dealer can't fix anything. You are becoming a legend. Love your work from AUS.
Great diagnosis Joe, I am singing 'Another one bites the dust'. In support of the dealership techs, when your workload is consistent each day, the desire to work on a badly designed headache (what is the flywheel plug for?), goes out the door. At the end of the day, it is avoided as YOU go out the door.
If i owned the dealership you bought this from i would fire my technician first thing this morning
Why? They sold it for $3000... That's about all it's worth running or not
Grâce à ce technicien qui a pas réparer cette machine. On a la chance de pouvoir le regarder chez vintage. 😂.
You ain't wrong
That small fan is for blowing out gas paper in the engine bay like a boat so it don't explode 😮
The dealership should fire their mechanic and hire Joe for a Million Bucks a year
Joe the fan switch is for an added fan to cool the clutches. Nice work!
Great work brother. Just a little advice if you happen to read this you could nake your life a lot easier testinb electrical parts with a power probe tool. You can test fuses and apply power and ground with the same tool it would save you a lot of time. One mechanic to another get a power probe it will help you a lot. Keep up the good work. I hope the local dealerships dont get tired of watching you fix everg 10k utv there techs give up on. Its got to be getting embarrassing for them by now.
God bless
JM in Greers Ferry AR
This dude is sharp . I haven’t seen machine he can’t fix yet .
Husaburg 500! Sorta a parts issue I guess. But I want him to macgyver something up and make that thing reliable. Lol.
Only 1 he didn’t fix , Yama dirt bike he couldn’t kick start ! He showed it being buried with different colored dirt !
I forgot about that yamya lol .
Didn’t he have it running but had roll start it , I thank . I’ll have go back watch that one .
@@raptor700dad7 ended up being the hot start was pulled in slightly. I adjusted the hot switch by handlebars and it fired right up.
Regardless ,
This guy is bad ass on fixing any small engine!!! . I been around a min, I thank he is one of the best , period .
I so thankful I learned to work on my own stuff starting when I was very young fixing my little Honda 50s you can’t trust a dealership to do anything but lie to you and try to sell you something else
Great job on this one for sure! If I may make a suggestion, I think you could really use a laser temp gun for a lot of your heat diagnostics. Menards has a cheap one on sale right now for $6. I have two of that model, and they work great for my purposes.
Scary to think a dealership cant figure out timing. They have more at disposal then most common people like wireing diagrams, bulletins shared between dealerships on common issues, specialized tools and scanners. They probably talked him into a new one and made more money anyways. They dont call them stealerships for nothing. Good video looking forward to part two glad your gamble paid off. Im tossing around the idea of starting to do what you are on a smaller scale for extra income.
The old way of learning the trade is still the best way. all a lot of "mechanics"or Technicians know now is computer readouts and remove & replace. A retired friend of mine, a Master mechanic has pointed that out to me several times. Cheers Joe.
Joel, you are amazing. Great job again , and I'd love to watch your figurine it out ,thanks
Compliments to you for a quick diagnosis. I really enjoy watching you work.
Good score, those particular UTV's can be difficult to work on. Thanks Joe!
You, you Joe, you gotta gift! Continuously amazed by your calm, logical, common sense, patient approach to diagnosing and resolving every issue. I have learned a ton about the process of diagnosis and patience too hahaha! Your channel is fantastic, best on RUclips IMO. Thanks for doing what you do.
Good job Joe. Experience is an awesome teacher.
You’re amazing how you fix stuff I work on small engines myself and let me tell you I learned a lot from you just watching your videos and I’m a lot older than you
Another well thought out and entertaining video. So the question is if the designers were forced to do maintenance on their design would they change anything. Poor design choices on their part but great work on yours. Keep up the great content man.
So confusing when you get a good spark good compression and good fuel spray pattern. Great job!
Thanks Joe you are a Maestro ..................SO SMART ! running diagnostics immediately , thats the answer, love your channel
You're building up a stable of really nice quads. Pretty cool
I hate when manufacturers fail to make their design easibly servicable just because it would cost them money to go back and make a change. That belt cover is a good example. It's really aggravating for a person to have to spend an hour just gaining access to a part that would take 5 or 10 minutes to change. If I remember correctly, Arctic Cat sourced their engines from a seperate manufacturer and dropped them into their frames. The engines and frames weren't necessarily designed to work in perfect concert around one another. There are a few companies that do things that way, but some are better about going back and making changes to their frame designs to better accommodate the engine/transmission assembly, making them easier to service.
I think most regular vehicle manufacturers today just think about how much stuff they can pack into an already cramped space, and at the same time make it harder for anyone to work on their own vehicle on purpose.
Especially on a performance machine where it is a replaceable item.
I am very impressed with your work, you have so many patients, i wish i lived close to you i would love to buy some stuff from you. Keep up the great work i haven't missed any video's
. Thank you from Prince Edward Island Canada.
Another newer model beauty and you were up for the challenge which makes great videos. I enjoy your RUclips's and learning something on every show.
I have no idea how you do what you do. Love the videos. Thank you.
That UTV looks like a pain in the butt to work on, good work Joe!
Great job !!! Do NOT tell the Dealer ... you'll be able to buy future screw ups on the cheap LOL. Had the same issue with my M3 BMW with a blown Head gasket (factory issue) ... they had a $3 million Sun machine and I told them the timing was off and they said BS. So after 3 months in repair and 3 tear downs, I took it away from them and took it to an old man ... had it 8am to noon and had it fixed perfectly ! It was off on 1 bank.
Or sell it back to the dealership ($3,000 + $1,000) let them sell for $5-$6k - keep them coming back for more
$3 million Sun machine huh? 😂
@@MrRupus2020 Europe ... when the USD was very weak ... $1.50 per Euro. Just to say it was a very sophisticated machine that wasn't able to decipher what my own Ears could on timing.
Another great video Joe ,love your diagnosis and fix keep up the great work ! Can’t wait for the next video !
Obviously I watch 2vintage 2much. I diagnosed it before Joe did. Great video and troubleshooting technics.
51:00 This would've been a great time to clean this with the parts washer. Jobs just like this one (trying to locate a crack) is where parts washers really shine because it would've been easy to spot one on a perfectly clean surface. Next time, try to remember this and give it a shot. I GUARANTEE you won't regret it, but to make it world's easier, you're going to want to get the brush attachment that fastens to the end of the metal line. Having this brush makes your parts washer a million times better and easier to use.
I really enjoy your videos I would love to know what happens to the machine's after they are repaired but you do a fantastic job on your videos thanks Joe.
The difficulty in working on it and how hard it is to see the timing marks is probably why it was 180 out. I own vintage air colled 2 stroke bikes for their simplicity.
Really good channel.
You get better every time you work on a new project you go brother you took a RUclips video fixing an old bike and look at you now wow
Great diagnosis as usual. Good work.
I got to admit you sure know your stuff VERY INTELIGINT
Another top-notch diagnosis & fix by none other than Smokin' Joe. Great job!!
Nice to see you get an easy fix for once.
You have no quit in you joe . A man after my own heart . You barely got the plastic off . But I know you can do it .
Where do you sell your fixed vehicles?
2000 miles and you figure someone had to go in and rebuild it .. Kinda sad unless it was UTTERLY abused.. Even so... That's super low mileage.. As always kick ass Joe.. You've gotten so big that you probably won't even see this comment... I've been watching you since the beginning and damn, you've come so far....! Amazing!
Master mechanic joe strikes again. Great job man
I really like your videos and watch them all the time...thank for sharing your passion with us. I have learned a lot from you!
Had one in here while back, had snow Trax on it, even more headache's.
Great job diagnosing the problem. You did in one day what the dealership couldn't do in 2 months! Doesn't speak well for the dealership! Please take time do do a thorough cleaning before you put everything back together. It will be worth the effort!
Awesome troubleshooting!!! Love the videos
Smarter than the average Bear Joe - Really good troubleshooting.👍
Thanks for reminding me what not to buy when I get an SxS.
Can you add part 1 or part 2 to your video discription it would surely help me follow along with a build or repair thanks love the videos keep up the good work.
I and am sure others heard it’s dragging a piston since the first start up ? Now to find out why? The fun starts!
Thank you, I was hoping you'd get in a UTV like this, Polaris RZR, Can-Am Maverick. From Minnesota and didn't even know former Arctic Cat (of Thief River Falls) made these. Now a collector's items, as Artic Cat (bought by Textron) has been shut down
There are rumors Argo is buying them. Argo hired almost all the top brass from Cat when Textron came in and replaced them.
@ That would be great, have hunted and fished in the Theif River Falls area, plant is a huge loss for them
You should check out the 2017 arctic cat wildcat sport limited 700cc. They are super under rated beasts
It's 7am and I been up all night. just about to go to bed and you hit us with a video, Looks like im up for another hour at least.
I watch videos with my 1 year old Grandson. He loves Joe. At night I fall asleep before I get past compression check. lol
Hey Joe, just a suggestion after watching a lot of car repair and maintenance repair videos on RUclips, could you possibly double speed the part where you’re just removing screws? I think it would save a lot of time while watching the videos. Other RUclips channels like no nonsense know how (NNKH) where Chris double times the speed when he’s just removing a lot of screws out of a component and not talking. It may cut down the time if you’re not speaking while removing those components and 10 to 15 screws. I love all your videos and I miss my time when I lived in Wisconsin. I’m in the military and I move all over the United States. Hope your finger is feeling better!
Joe is an absolute savage on engine repair! Love all his videos. He has the patience and sees things through. I’ve learned so much watching his videos.
Some people run those fans to cool the CVT belt. It’s usually in line with the CVT belt tube.
I'm not reading any comments, 6:21 in and my guess, just from what she's doing here, I'm guessing it's a fuel injector or fuel delivery somewhere, electronics or whatever, it seems like a fuel is cutting out and she's dying. I'm probably wrong, and I am sure it's deeper in the engine, but man it would be SWEET if it was just some silly fuel injection nonsense.
edit: jeez now 9:33 in and I feel like it's just overfull with oil.. oh man I can't wait to see what it is.. I know you'll figure it out Joe.. you always do!
You probably already have it fixed by this time, but I was gonna say have you checked the fuel pressure? Good luck man I see you turning these things over every day. It seems like awesome.
I wonder if the cooling fan switch was for removing heat from the cabin or blowing on the engine.
Do you ever do any prep cleaning for the items why you have them torn apart and can get some of the dirt and grime off before trying g to sell them or is it as is?
The engineers should have to take the clutch cover off of any side by side while standing on a fire ant bed barefoot . It would not have been a problem to make them in two pieces over lapping each other and still be water , mouse and dust tight . It would make them a lot easier for service . Just saying . Good videos keep them coming .
That little fan is probably for directing radiant heat from the engine off of the folks in the cockpit..Hot days in a SXS sitting still or moving slow you can bake.
The pipes in my neighborhood are always hot. Gotta chain everything down in my garage so that nothing walks away! 🤣
Very good synopsis wow ?!!!!!? 1:06:14 can't wait 1:06:28 😊👍
And to take clutch cover off is easy jack that side up so trailing arms down move shock comes right off
Nice save! What a terrible thing to work on! Gotta hand it to you for sticking with it to the end! 👍👍👍
This channel is Awesome! Thanks for the tips, they help out a lot
💯Stars, forget 5
Impressive Joe. Good job.
I don't know how those valves arent bent. Assuming it's a non-interference engine. Lucky
At 180 degrees out of time the valves are in the only position they won't make contact with the pistons. Luckily there are 2 positions which valves can fully work with proper clearance and they are exactly opposite each other.
@JonathanMatthews-xc6cr not sure what you mean.
piston was at tdc, and cam lobes were at max reach. That's a valve smash in an interference engine
Watching you test that fuel injector….spraying fuel all over the LIVE coil and wire gave me serious anxiety!! One spark away from a bad day!
You can rotate the engine manually by putting it in second or third gear and rolling the quad a distance till your at TDC
You don’t miss anything. Great video.
Watching this makes me remember why I would never own an Arctic Cat anything! Makes me appreciate my Polaris RZR more!!
Ironic that you made the exact same mistake on the last rebuild, guess it happens to all of us one time in life :) well done on another bargain looks like a great machine :)
Another shout out to the starter the real mvp of these videos.
29:02 electrical. I am guessing before I watch. Moving that around bumped some connector and electrons flowed to the solenoid.
