DREAM THEATER COVER website: dreamtheatercover.com JP/DT SOLOS (Guitar Course): johnpetruccisolos.com My new project TRYPTAMAX, ft. Will Shaw on vocals! 😮🎤 ruclips.net/video/O2DecaNDwIU/видео.html
I love how JP's solos often include moments of almost 'orchestral', 'theatrical' or 'operatic' drama by making full use of the wonderful chords in the background. Witness his ending solo of 'Illumination Theory', where towards the end it goes into this beautiful raked chord outline and has beautiful little twists and turns. Another example - his ending solo of 'Pale Blue Dot', again little melodic ideas that add to the already beautiful playing that's occurring. This brings me to an important observation - JP is at his best, his most accomplished (in my opinion) when he's given plenty of texture to play over - such as with the brilliant Jordan Rudess on the keys layering some wonderful chords. It's also why I feel that JP, while still amazing in his solo trio format, doesn't have the same canvas in which to play within. Yes, Dave LaRue kicks butt on bass and he's killer at laying down foundation and being rocksteady, but it's not the same as having a luxurious blanket of keys underneath you!
This afternoon I watched a video of a man reacting to and analyzing the full song of Octavarium. There were many things about the track that caught his attention, but he had absolutely nothing to say about the guitar solo. In fact, he used it as an opportunity to talk over it!! This is my favorite guitar solo of all time, so I'm really grateful that a few hours after I watched that reaction video, Thaigo has posted this cover, giving the solo the proper respect it deserves. Thank you! 🤘
Pitch perfect. That's just brilliant, Thiago! Your passion and commitment to DT and in particular the styles of Petrucci have been obvious for years and I've just lapped up all the work you've done both personally and with your numerous split-screens. Just perfect.
I've successfully stolen the opening F note permanently...I do not have perfect pitch, but I can pull that perfect F out of thin air, sing it into my phone and then check it...it's right there every time. It's a good F apparently, I enjoy it....lol....I also freaking love playing this solo and perform it at least once a week with the juicey vibrats and liquid lead tone
@@ThiagoCamposOfficial Dude....that is fucking classic bro..it's such a strong shining example of an F though, I'm sure we're not alone. I filed it in my brain storage system directly between: Obscene Word Database and Octopus Wrestling for Dummies, handily titled Octavarium Reference F @ A-440Hz with a little wiggle™ DT has shaped and changed my life considerably, and JP has pretty much changed and rewrote everything I knew about guitar prior to really jumping into his shoes proper like. I think my own biggest takeaways from Petroosh is odd time feel and counting confidence, thick liquid lead guitar that brings the feels and makes the girls moist, alternate picking masterclass, being a tone chaser and fanatic and really being aware of exactly how each note sounds, subtle bar work, 3 note per string alt picked multi octave repeating shapes, neck pickup tone leads, EAR TRAINING..some of these leads won't EVER sound right by looking at bad tabs, you gotta hear every detail of each note and then execute it...it all seems so simple.now, but getting there was a ton and ton and another ass ton of hard but rewarding work. Also to his credit are: working out the proper position to play a given lick in, chromatic insanity, clean arpegiated open chord progressions that ring like a dinner bell, how to use feedback musically, switching pickups fast and clean, improvising and being able to play what I hear in my head, a ton of theory and my theory learning started with JP, my writing and composition skills are beyond what I ever thought I would be capable of...it took 20 years before I could reliably come up with something that I liked without getting lucky....I could go on....the man has literally made me strive to be the best I can be. Love ya Johnny...him and my pops share the July 12th birthday, which is neat too. And he's a bourbon connoisseur and smoked meat creator...I have 3 Weber grills and 3 smokers, I love smoking some Texas style brisket for 12 hours over cherry, it's insane the results you can get once you get the hang of it...it's a whole lot easier and cheaper than learning guitar though!!! 😂 Anyway, I'm done with the Jay Pee man crushin. Have a terrific evening there Jammer von Music Man, peace out.

Easily my favorite guitar solo of all time, and this rendition is absolutely perfection

I had forgotten how much emotion explodes out of that solo! Well done sir.
When hold the note in the end is perfect...
So hard to nail that last note and sustain it! Awesome !!

Puts...
One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. Well played!
Ridiculamente perfeito. Até a postura da mão se assemelha ao padrão adotado por Petrucci nos últimos 15 anos. Perfeito!

Thank you very much! I’m using a plugin called ML5 by ML Sound Lab. The Boogies in the back are just being sexy for the shot.
I play this a little differently in places, but no matter how it's played, we can all agree it's just joyful. Well done!
É por isso que a Octavarium é tão boa. Por conta dessas atmosferas criadas pela banda!
