    Linux is awesome. I can never imagine going back to Windows. It is so customizable which can literally give you a new OS daily if you wanted. You can customize the "start" button or even your disto's neofetch logo. Just awesome.

      You mentioned only esthetic though, then you should talk about having a new GUI every day, not a whole OS, which is something else (not that it couldn't be achieved though)
      I agree about it being awesome anyway.

    I used Manjaro for the last 3 years it was my first linux distro but I switched to Nobara on my desktop PC and I'll reinstall my laptop with Fedora too. Manjaro was good and I still really like it. I never had any big problems with it but I wanted to try out new things too. In the 3 years I used Manjaro I only had to reinstall my laptop twice. The first was on me actually because I started an upgrade and it failed right after it finished pre-transaction hooks and it started upgrading packages. And instead of trying to re-run the update for some reason I thought it would be the worlds greatest idea to restart my computer. Turned out it was not a great idea :D The second one was some gnome and GDM issue I didn't want to debug and resolve so I just reinstalled :D But yeah, Manjaro was and is great, I like it but it's time to see and experience some new things and maybe one day I will return, who knows?

    The problem I had when using Majaro is the community for the most part is unhelpful and the developers always wanted to argue with people and think there right. A developer should always listen to it's community. That bugged me so much I Just threw my hands up and just said this is not worth it and left. Been using Fedora on my computer and got my dad on ZorinOS as he is not really computer literate. He is 72 and ZorinOS has been the best OS for him with very minimal problems .

      I wouldn't say the Manjaro community is unhelpful. When I first installed it, I had some issues and people were more than happy to help. A few out there suggestions, but helpful nonetheless. In the end the issues were more with the distro than what I had done or wanted to do. For me it was the constant bad updates and total system fails that got beyond a joke. It was quicker to do another install than to fart arse around trying to fix.
      I too went over to Fedora and Fedora based distros. Been having a much better time at it since

    The way I see it, Manjaro is a very user-friendly Arch spin if you don't use the AUR. Not switching from my Arco KDE any time soon, though.

    • @hardbrocklife
      @hardbrocklife Год назад +2

      Arco KDE rally should become the standard recommendation for people wanting an Arch based distro. I believe Endeavor is real Arch and not deritive arch like Manjaro so its probably a good recommendation. Issue with Manjaro is I think most people that use it will eventually gravitate towards wanting to do more Archy things, and that will break your Manjaro.
      Right now I'm breaking down how I can swap to Arcolinux while retaining as much data as possible. If I have to literally reinstall everything, like my entire steam library, I'm unfortunately not moving to Arco. Just too much reinstalling.

    The majority of the video compliments KDE Plasma and not Manjaro itself. Manjaro is great for simple everyday use and gaming. It is also great for someone who comes from MS dos, sorry windows I wanted to say and the bash really scares them. It works out of the box. It's good. Many other distros based on Arch are great too. I like Endeavor. I use Arch btw. One installation has Hyprland and the other one has Plasma. I hope more people start using LiGnux.

    For the heck of it and because I'm curious I'm going to try Open Office. Manjaro was a test OS for me last year. It's OK but MX is much more useful to me. Manjaro is a good way to try Arch.

  • @peterschmidt9942

    I don't think I'd go back to Manjaro as I had too many stability issues with it and got sick of reinstalling every 3-6 months. I've been running Fedora based distro's for the last 6 months or so and generally finding them more stable. Still get crashes occasionally if I'm running a few high CPU apps at ones, but a reboot fixes it. At least it's not a total system meltdown where I couldn't even login which is what I'd constantly get with Manjaro. It's a shame as Manjaro is super simple to use and has a lot of apps installed out of the box that are useful.
    I really like dolphin as a FM too (part of the reason I like KDE as well). I use it similar to the way windows does with expandable trees. Although it works better as you have the ability to split windows.
    App menus I generally don't care too much for regardless of the layout, as I use search anyway. I know what app I generally want and high use apps have an icon on the task bar to quick launch.

      The main reasons to use arch are probably the rolling releases and aur. From my experience using manjaro i've found it to have better overall compatibility with different computers.

      I've been using Fedora for the last six months and it's been pretty stable. Try the KDE version. It can be overwhelming with the amount of options to change things, but I like options. Although my Acer Nitro isn't a fan of Fedora, but Nobara working well on it.

  • @HectorLugo

    Mankato is, in my opinion, the best Arch based distro for people who just want to set it up and let it sit there and do what it does. I think for those who are obsessed with checking updates it can prove to be a problem, especially if you install AUR packages. It is easy to set up. It looks great at first boot so that if you’re a person who doesn’t care about customizing further you already have a good looking desktop. It comes with a software center pre installed so that a new user can open it and peruse for what they need. With the KDE version you can give it a look that will dazzle.
    Too many arch based systems are not that easy to set up once installed. They may not come with pamac preinstalled, for example, or the documentation is bad.
    You mention bleeding edge, but user friendliness is not about the bleeding edge. In fact, the bleeding edge may not be good for the common user.
    Like many Linux enthusiasts you fail to understand what a common user expects and needs. They don’t care about the AUR or about being at the absolutely latest version of everything. Many will not even know what the version of most apps is.
    As long as the security updates are installed in a timely manner that’s all that really makes a difference for many.

    Manjaro i3 from community and Mabox linux based on manjaro, are the only working manjaro at the moment. Don't know if the devs take the time to fix manjaro devs mess, or the fact that they don't have gnome/kde, or both things

    Hey, I've been distro hopping for the past year and I've never felt more comfortable than in manjaro, I love Ubuntu but it was always slower than other distros. Fedora has nice work flow but some stuff annoys me, manjaro was the one that felt pretty comfortable for me as just a person which uses pc just to browse the Internet, download anime stuff like that, but I don't agree with manjaro policies, money management stuff like that. I think of going for endeavor os or garuda, but are they user friendly? I'm Linux newbie totally, you have to think I'm just someone who starts Linux adventure. Can you recommend me something guys?

    • @emjaycee
      @emjaycee Год назад +2

      This is just my personal opinion as someone who has tried and used all three. Please also note that my experiences have been with the Cinnamon DE. For a novice level computer/Linux user I think Manjaro is still the easiest as long as you don't need the AUR. It is also best to use TTY updates (Ctl-Alt-F2 or F3). Manjaro did go 'off' for a while, but they're back now and I'm more comfortable with using it. I have Garuda as my current DD and it's been fine. I have had it on another system as well for over 6 months and it has been completely stable. Endeavour is also great but they expect you to be a 'learner', including learning to be comfortable in terminal. I would recommend Endeavour more for intermediate level computer and Linux users. Good luck :)

    I've been running exclusively Linux distros for over 15yrs. Everytime, without exception, I've run Manjaro, it's massively broken after 6-12months max. You shouldn't recommend this trash, when there's things like Endeavor OS or Garuda etc. The Manjaro repos, & held-back libraries, are a massive problem. The Manjaro team & their really lax practices are a massive problem. If you use anything in the AUR, sooner or later, UR gonna have a massive problem. Anything Arch based, isn't for noobs unless you wanna learn how to fix things. There's much better options, if you wanna use an Arch base, these days. Manjaro's a distro in decline, whilst others are ascending, don't do it...

    • @nunagoras
      @nunagoras Год назад +1

      I've such a very old 2011 ASUS laptop, AMD based, 4GB RAM that just works with current Manjaro. Certainly you won't be able to see Full HD videos out there. Certainly not for gaming. Certainly not for your typical cable TV websites. Certainly not to enjoy all those DE "special" effects... But at my secondary home it does the job for Email, some chat with friends, blogging, Facebook, a few small lower quality videos, access bank websites, write a little article or letter, edit a simple photo or to do the very basics!... If I've done the ram upgrade, I could perfectly to do whatever else I do on my current main AMD Ryzen 5 laptop, minus the Full HD video and TV!... So, yes, if your machine has 8GB ram, it should to be OK. If you can upgrade the HDD for an SSD, better so. I believe any PC from say; 2008 @ 4GB ram onward should work well on Manjaro.

    I went distro-hopping on my laptop. I thought, let's go vanilla Ubuntu, all flavors. Most of them have install issues. Manjaro, Garuda, CachyOS, no problems. Ubuntu does that LTS kernel lock, where you gotta go looking to update the kernel. Manjaro also has some more io schedulers installed for you. I love both KDE and XFCE, they actually run on less ram than Cinnamon or Mate. Idk how that happened. Manjaro deserves some respect for creating a complete product though.

    • @nunagoras
      @nunagoras Год назад +2

      The problem with the likes of Cinnamon and Mate is that they are becoming somewhat obsolescent on the technology they employ. They're X11 and not Wayland compatible for example. They're also not adapted to work the best way with some of the modern hardware. No surprise they'll to use more resources to do the same thing. Cinnamon can be a wonderful solution for average beginners with little IT specific knowledge though, because it is perhaps the most intuitive of them all! I'm amazed on how such a small team like Linux Mint one with so few resources was able to put such a product like that on our hands that is perhaps the most intuitive DE on the whole industry!... Bravo!... But, of course, with limited financing and some lack of enthusiasm lately, Cinnamon may have its days counted if nobody picks it to the next level...

    • @cameronbosch1213
      @cameronbosch1213 Год назад

      @@nunagoras MATE does have work on Wayland support, as does Xfce (which is pretty far along) & so does Unity.
      I'm convinced Cinnamon is run by people stuck in the past...

    • @SoulExpension
      @SoulExpension Год назад +3

      @@nunagoras I think it's just tight coding and memory efficiency... possibly Qt versus vanilla Gtk. KDE definitely has settings sprawl, yet it runs well. Being able to fund KDE, a larger project, roughly translates into code time to do it right. For me, xfce is just old school customization fun. I guess if were serious I would switch to i3 or Awesome, which are coming up next for me. Maybe Sway.

    • @nunagoras
      @nunagoras Год назад

      @@cameronbosch1213 Thanks, personally I didn't know about MATE's Wayland support. Yay for XFCE. I believe the Cinnamon developers want to be the last ones... To make the most stable stack of its all. They'll to incorporate the work of many others while offering the superb final product they have now. Perhaps they think it's not mature enough, but I believe they're quietly working on it...

      That's the point, isn't it? You either need an installer that checks cross dependencies, and/or install package versioning side-by-side so top-level apps or frameworks don't break. Most people that complain, don't check their dependencies, especially in relation to core OS functions. Nor do they backup or do a btrfs snapshot. OpenSuse kinda died. Once Suse started charging, people jumped ship to Debian or back to Redhat/Fedora. It's because Suse isn't a US-born project. Early 2000's, it was a big deal because you couldn't charge for linux if you weren't enterprise. They had no market leverage. It's a shame actually.
