    After watching your first video on Athom products ordered 2ea of the Athom Smart Plugs as well as an 8 Channel Relay board. All units had Tasmota. The Smart Plugs units shipped from California same day and arrived in 3 days. Also ordered an 8 Channel Relay board that shipped safe day from China and arrived at my door in 10 days via Air Freight from China with complete shipping tracking.
    I was really impressed with their support. BTW the smart plug units have energy monitoring build in.

    I have ordered some Athom bulbs and have been happy with them so far. Nice to have products you can power up, connect and use without the project work before you can use them. I've been swapping out Tuya-based bulbs won't Tuyaconvert.

      Right. But they sell it as a US sized switch and it does fit a 1 gang box. Confuses people. Walk into a hardware store and ask for a 4 gang face plate and you are getting a pretty wide plate.

    90c wire has an 18A ampacity, so their wire size is fine. I suspect the 15a rating and 20a relay is just so their device will be reliable and safe in the long term. As you inherently understand, the device should not be used long term at the upper spec of what the components are rated for. They've already built that margin in so their device should be safe and reliable when used at that upper spec limit (assuming the other quality and manufacturing controls are there)

    Note: For the 15w bulb (and perhaps other Athom products), an attempt to upgrade Tasmota via the OTA option of the firmware will brick these bulbs. Without an available hard reset (7x power reset doesn't work), or any header pins, the only chance at saving these bulbs is complete disassembly and direct soldering to the board for a serial reflash. Boo.

    Do you have some put with Athom to get some documentation. I have a Athom 8Ch Relay that is supposed to come pre-eflashed to do HomeKit and HomeAssistant MQTT. Zero instructions in the box, Zero instructions on their website. 3 hours later of trial and error I got it talking to HomeAssitant via a HomeKit integration. • @digiblurDIY

      Probably not. I have said it a few times in places.. Those new esphome security features do more to lock people out of their devices than actually stop something bad from taking over the devices.

    The sponsor and I think your review of the ground is off.
    unless you live in an 1800 house or high rise house in New York, no one wiring now a days using metal boxes anymore while building a single family house anymore. I can speak for FL and even if you still have metal boxes you will switch them out for Plastic electrical box. So having metal tab of the screw tab is not needed because metal on plastic boxes is not conductive.
    Next, On the PCB, the entire area on the PCB not use electrical line is use for grounding so when you say the earth is not going to anything is doing injustice to the maker of these products.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  3 года назад +1

      No sponsor. I stopped doing that a good while back.
      Metal boxes are still a thing in some areas as is conduit. Metal face plates are still being used as well which is why even cheap dumb switches come with ground.
      No injustice here, call it like I see it.
      You don't need to connect the grounds if it offends you. Snip it off the back and you don't have to deal with it. It's your switch, make it yours. Doesn't matter with this one anyways.
