Chicago resident here. The problems you see here are from the aftershocks of the Jim Crow days, which were never limited to just the South. Chicago is still a heavily segregated city. If you cross certain streets, you'll go from 90% white to 90% black or 90% latino. The bulk of crime occurs in specific neighborhoods in the Southside and Westside. These minority neighborhoods are where most of the crime stats come from. Generations of poverty and Redlining laws were allowed to fester until we got where we are today. None of this excuses the crime that goes on here, but it tells us that the solutions must be structural, not individual.
Changes on the individual level would definitely help though. Kids in those neighborhoods need to be raised properly and taught the value of life. Relying on the government to fix issues is never a good idea, look how badly their "solutions" have been for the past 20 years.

@@farid.2972 I disagree, I would say he is pretty centrist. He has gotten more progressive as he’s gotten older, but his audience is mainly the hoi4 community fom his early days. Though I have noticed chat has gotten better over time also by a bit.
It’s because they’re mostly from the hella old days of hoi4, the game now a-days is fucking awful but back then people were openly racist and just said the most out of pocket shit; it was crazy. It’s gotten a LOT better now though because hoi4 has kinda gone mainstream meaning less neo-Nazi’s and fascists and literal racists and people like that. They can’t openly openly share their opinions anymore because the old community is overwhelmingly out numbered by the much less radical new community of mostly normal strategy gamers.

I want to stay politically neutral here. Tommy attacked the Republican point of view on this subject. The Democrat idea was defund the police and abolish the police force.
Defund the police was an idea to take the huge amounts of money wasted on policing these communities (since shit ain't helping anyway, if anything it makes it worse) and put them into local authorities, community support etc (depends on who you ask).

It was to also send that money to help local schools which are underfunded and combat the poverty in these neighborhoods the main thing causing the cirme.
