Thanks! It's a more pleasant activity to associate with the sound. Now I can hear it and think that someone is carving - at least I hope it works like that. I think the compressor is more annoying.

I am new to scroll sawing. I can comprehend the cuts and shaping, although I am not sure I have the skills to duplicate them. What amazes me most is your ability to visualize and create the individual shapes required to achieve the final piece. It is beautiful. The wood, the finish and the craftsmanship. First of all that is great work!! To put your finish with all the groves and angles why not use a spray bottle to put finish on then wipe down.. Richard K.
Thank you! Yeah, it would have been easier to spray or brush the oil finish on being textured. I realized that right after I started.

Way cool! Just bought my first tablesaw to build your shells. Gonna do some of your gears first though.does your gear calculations work for small and tiny gears for automata? The gears i make don’t fit together so well. Off subject,sry.
Thanks, and congratulations on getting your first table saw! The gear calculations work for any size gear, but with the table saw you'll be limited by the blade thickness for making fine pitches.

Good morning Steve, I REALLY like this shell for two reasons, one: just the design and texture, and two: using the cedar. I'll bet it was a fun wood to use since the wood is so soft; though it splinters easily.
I have a technical question; what are you using for your lapping board? I am thinking of a piece of plywood, 11/16" thick. I've been using the belt sander and it causes more headaches because my angle disappears.
Haven't worked on anything in the shop since March since Lorraine and I are busy with her business right now but am planning to get out and dust off the tools and clean the shop so that I can start up this week.

Hello Kim, a belt sander is way too aggressive. My lapping board is 36 grit sandpaper on top of 1/4" glass plate - which is glued with construction adhesive to a small concrete slab I poured. That's overkill lol. MDF would be flatter than plywood. Glass is best. Thanks for the compliments!
@@Steve.Garrison Thanks Steve, I just took some multilayer 11/16" plywood and glued some 100 grit to it. It should suffice for now. Want to get at least two 1st gen shells made for the end of the month, there's a craft show that I hope to show my work at, will keep you updated on the progress of.

how u get the dental drill set up?
Hi Marla, the dental drill uses a smaller air hose, so you'll need the small tubing and a threaded hose barb to connect it to your compressor. The hose barb I used replaces the tip of a blowgun. I wired the blowgun lever shut and added a ball valve to turn the drill on and off. Also need a regulator.
