Losing faith in my husband...
#trentandallie #diy #familyvlog
There comes a point when a man has to set aside his ego and admit he needs to get help to complete his task. you my friend are at that point. Take a step back and get someone to complete this so you can move on and try to get this somewhat completed before the first snow fall. With a new baby due any day you are getting over your head. Time to move forward with craftsmen that can complete this job quickly and more importantly safely
Yeah, it is actually getting boring watching him screw up when we could enjoy watching a professional work with him to get it done and we all move on to the next step. At least we have kids, dogs, and a baby watch...😅
I totally agree with @williamstrange877 although a framing contractor may be expensive so will having to buying new beams if you mess them up. Blessings 💕
I'm pretty sure that is not how to epoxy bolts into concrete either

@@williamstrange877 I totally agree. Trying to be something you aren't will cause you nothing but harm.
2-3 years ago when Trent said "I am NOT putting a cover on this deck" I said to myself, yah he just needs to go through a winter or two and he's gonna change his mind!
I agree. What I don’t get is why remove air the siding? Why not just use flashing.
@@earthchannel4340 Should have had a Balcony for the bedroom up there, I said the same for the Garage loft! They have these beautiful views
Hire a timber guy it's worth it
@@jeffreyferguson83 They want something that will continue the snow slough-off from the main roof and redirect it out past the main deck. Putting another flat surface (bedroom deck) would not help with that.
@@PCTLadyPuterTutor
You would just put a roof over the balcony, like a A frame roof. In fact the left side of the roof would more than likely fallow the existing roof line.
Getting an expert to help is probably cheaper in the long run. It’s not defeat, it’s being smart! Cheering you on!
I have to agree with you here! But many of the problems can be attributed to " a hair out of square". A few years ago I watched a channel that was building a homestead and the house was timber framed. They went to Maine and took a timber framing workshop at Shelter, and even then they managed to arrange to have Shelter do a hands-on workshop at their place in Oregon. You can't learn delicate, precise hands on skills just by watching You Tube.
@@patdelang9117 sure you can if you are good with your hands, I bet he don't hire no timber framer and he finished it himself and prove all your haters wrong again

Don’t forget to ask Brandon his thoughts. He’s working right there with Trent just as hard 😊

Well, at least now . . . you know you have one more thing to check. An expensive lesson learned.
It’s not how bad you screw up that matters, it’s how well you recover! Works for mechanics, builders, and pilots!👍🏼🤠
If you A pilot, it can kill you 😢 though
Works for moms too!
Praying for a painless, healthy labor, and joy throughout the family. Your mom is watching over you, Allie! We all love you.

Trent, I hate to say it, and I have loved watching you learn and grow in this. You keep talking about the pro timber framers, and I have to say, it might be time to call one of them, to at least get some advice, if not hire them to do this portion for you. A not level knife plate, and out of plumb posts, could be a bit more than a hair out of square. Good luck! Just remember, there is nothing wrong with asking for help. How much more will you spend if you mess up another timber.

Leo's exploration is epic. Boys need to explore. It would be nice if he could go solo, but with his territory being a construction zone he is blessed to have his Aunt to give him space and time to explore and still shelter his experience enough to be safe. ❤
Aunt Jennifer is the real MVP of this video. Doing the real work of nurturing little Leo. She’s the best!
I hope she's being well compensated.
You need to find a couple Amish timber framers and hire them for the posts!
Amish timber framers might be hard to find in the middle of Utah
Oh wow! I agree.
@@dellastone9039 Roadtrip !!
@dellastone9039 Hah! Yeah I was thinking that, too! 😊
Regarding the mis-cut beam slot. I recommend using that side of the cut as the “top” of the beam and filling the slot with a wood fill. Start over at the other end as your new bottom side and implant lessons learned solution. I think this will work unless I’m missing something! Blessings all ya’all! Keep the faith brother!
Simplest solution is to use the beam on a different concrete pier and attach the base plate 90 degrees from the first one. The slot is hidden so you don't see it once the post is in place. Cut another post for the plate that's already in place.
You hired drywall finishers, and it saved time and reduced the stress. Why didn't you do the same with the timber framers? It certainly would have been faster and probably less expensive. Afterall, it's not like this is the end of the project, you still have about a million other things to do to complete this and other projects. Not trying to be negative but there comes a time when you could be working to your strengths and letting the professionals do what they do best, and you continue to do the things that you do best.

Good morning, and praise God for Faith Friday! I love seeing how Leo is enjoying learning and trying new crafts. Trent, Brandon, and Grayson will succeed in this build. My mother used to tell me, "Nothing beats a failure but a try!" So, you men will make it, and I am proud to have been watching since the beginning of the pandemic. Have a blessed weekend! 💜🙏🏽🦋
I 100% have faith in you Trent that you can do this. Don't let the little devil of doubt and insecurity sit on your shoulder. This is a problem that can be tackled in multiple ways. The first way hasn't worked, now there just has to be some adjustment to find a different way. You are persistent, and tackle many things you have feared before with success. Whether you are able to come up with a solution that you and your support team can implement, or you instead hire someone to do it for you, I do not think any less of you and the work you guys have already done, or have any less desire to watch the content you put out. No human on this Earth does not make mistakes. What matters is the lessons learned along the way and the recovery. You've got this!!!
Ok here goes. As an observation, I've noticed that the plates you are making up for the posts, have the bolts you're putting in, sitting a little proud of the plate that the post will sit on. That . in turn will make the plate sit up, and the two side holes for the plates also be off a little, and once you've drilled the side holes, they can't be undone, unless you turn the post, and then also have to make a new cut for the plate to fit in. A quick fix for the bolt heads would be to notch the corners, then the post would sit flat. As for the slop inside, you might try welding washers to each side of the plate to fill in the slop, Just saying, and if all else fails, like others have suggested, hire people to get it done, or I can see it now, 4 ft of snow, etc. That's my two cents.
Sounds like they need you there to help. Where do you live?
Welding the washers on either side of the plate sounds like a good way to fix this
They really, really need to see this comment
LOTS of $$$$$....call a TIMBERFRAME place and have them do the holes.....they have the whole set up....take the timbers there, have them cut them and bring them home for assembly......that is how they did my house....what it will cost you is less than the timbers you might have to replace.....GOOD LUCK!!! Allie, thinking about you and Leo's brother....can't wait!
I don't think he can just pop those timbers into the back of his pick it up truck, but he does need to shop this job out.
@@the_mum…possibly flat bed or gooseneck trailer
He has a trailer!!!
@@tonidavis1045 he needs a 24” trailer to handle those timbers!!!!
@@the_mum he has to lift them to get in place....he has the man power....it would be much easier and cheaper than paying thousands for new timbers.....one thing I have learned with DIY projects in my 70 years is that you can do lots, but pick your battles.....

Your progress is nothing short of amazing Guys!! Thanks!!
Please please don't cut your beams until all are installed, then level them.
Yes!! This!!
Bingo...!!!
Those are COLUMNS not beams.
Exactly what I was thinking. There should be some type of wood filler, like sawdust mixed with a strong glue to fill that space back up and let it sit, then recut the post for the plate. Using a chainsaw doesn’t seem like the right tool to cut the slit for the plates. There’s got to be a better tool than chainsaw for the job.

From the remarks from many, I can tell you have never sewn, knit, spun, crochet, woven anything. On a smaller scale, I have done all these things and far more, and initially failed spectacularly. I can’t say I am a master or an artist, but I can say, I make things for myself and others. Inspectors won’t pass things that aren’t safe. I almost burned a hole in the kitchen floor when I made lye soap for the first time.
I admire them all for recognizing mistakes, undoing and redoing. If they decide to go to an expert, well, that too, is part of learning… trial and error. They aren’t trying to be Frank Lloyd Wright, they are doing the best with what they have.
Keep trying, Trent, keep cooking that baby, Allie! I enjoy watching and learning and seeing you all trying your best. Bravo!!

Allie, Leo was premature and that is not "normal". This baby is on time....normal pregnancy is 40 weeks.
Not just that but your prego for 10 months not 9. If you count the weeks it’s 10 months. Why they’ve said it to be wrong for so long g is a disappointment as we lean on that 9 months as we need our body back n our baby here.
@@rebeccazuckman9059 yep 40weeks is 10 months. How the nine month myth got started is beyond me

Hope is not a strategy. You're in so deep under water the sun can't be seen at your depth. This is classic Trent-five unfinished major projects, a baby on the way, and no end in sight. It's time to stop thinking only of yourself (I know, impossible ask) and consider your wife and children. Hire experts who know what they're doing.
Having two kids is three times the work of one because your wife will need your help. You'll either be not working on these projects or leaving her alone. This is pure ego; for the love of your family, STOP.
And yes, Allie, your husband is doing insane things. He's not an idiot, just self-centered. Trent, you said, "everything is coming back to bite me in the butt." That's the mindset that got you here. No third party is acting against you; you're making costly mistakes, and your family is paying the price. The stress on your wife is immense. It's all on you, Trent.

Girl don’t put that out in the universe you know you love him and faith your married two babies ! ❤😂
It was a great idea to stay closer to the hospital. I have faith, Trent, and they guys will get this done or hire a contractor.
Mount one of the knife plates at 90 degrees onto the concrete pillar so that your cutout is aligned and the post is usable. You will never see the difference as the plate is hidden.
Yes, such as simple solution.
This is called lateral thinking. When you are not stressed it comes naturally!
Great Job - no giving up now!
I love how Jennifer is with Leo and the support you all give each other.. Great video..TFS
Isn't Jennifer ( Agaga) a beautiful woman? Her face lights up a room when she smiles.

Thank you for your videos. I love them. I'm always amazed at how, through Brandon is with his sun protection. He is always covered and wearing a rash guard shirt, sun hat, and hood up and gloves on his hands. I have to do the same things in the sun, or break out in hives and risking another skin cancer. Good job making sure your guys are sun protected at higher altitudes. Most people don't realize the higher the altitude, the less atmosphere to protect your skin from the sun.
Trent if you talk to a “professional “ who says he/she seldom / never makes mistakes - do not use said professional. We all make mistakes, the difference between a maker and a craftsman is the craft
Craftsman figures a way to fix that mistake so it looks like it never happened
❤
Absolutely don't quit. All of you together can do this, never give up. You have the equipment and the ability. It's no different than a lot of the other things you have done. How else are you supposed to build carecter !
And a tip for all your drilling. Annular cutters, and a mag drill, all those holes would have been done in probably an hour or 2.
Check out Evolution tools. They have a nice box set of annular cutters and different size drills, and check out their steel cutting saws right away. My next purchase is their new compound mitersaw. Keep up the good work, game on !
I too am "Losing Faith" in your husband. Episode after episode of getting nothing accomplished......one costly screw up after another. HIRE A PRO TRENT!
Allie, send out a notification when / if the posts finally get up. Oh, why the hell don't you level your plates with shims ?
Trent, don’t be too hard on yourself. You always try your best.
Don’t worry, cause every little thing’s gonna be alright. Allie your hair grew so long with this pregnancy. I suspect that on the next video you will have Leo’s baby brother. I love to hear Leo talk. His yay for yes is simply adorable.
Leo's speach is getting better. I'll bet he can even say Jennifer now.
Everytime i hear him, I think of the old English way of saying "yea" for the affirmative (even counting votes nowadays).
I've never seen Trent look so upset. Bless his heart 💜
And if you see any mistakes on the filler part when you're done get some sawdust and Elmer's glue and push into the Gap strictly for looks but it will harden up and you'll never notice it
Trent don't be afraid to ask for help, you need the help.
Love the honesty & wholesomeness in these videos, the history of your family warms my heart a what I learn an enjoying a build. LEO a little star! Love seeing him little boys things a riding machines with Dad an the guys!! Allie let him get muddy, wet, mixed shoes, a little boy of puppy dog tails, picking up frogs, bugs, walking with his dog ( when he can get his on) as he gets little older & baby brother.
Sorry you are having some challenges but we know you will find the solution, Trent, you always do..🙏🙏🙏💖
Hi Trent, I would advise you to set aside one pole for practice do all the test cutting and stuff up to when you get it right then proceed. Love you all.
You mean, like that piece he cut off already? It could be used several more times.😊
You're supposed to grout under the base plates and level them before the epoxy sets. When you do that you also use the transit to set all the plates at the same level. If they don't end up at the same level cut your posts to compensate for the difference.
He is trying to fly IFR with only VFR experience. That entire base plate connection could have been designed much better and the 12x12 column is excessive not only in load capacity but also in the scale of the structure.
