I’m wondering why the aluminum bushings are made of two pieces of tubing glued together instead of a single thick walled tubular bushing.

You can't get 061T6 tube with a thick enough wall and most would not have a laith to drill from bar stock. It has very little effect on the strength making it out of two pieces of tube. A good question.
