Rheumatoid arthritis, ugh! I am 56 and already giving up finger picking my classical guitars, soft felt plectrum only. And the piano, nice and slowly to touch the right keys. The Hammond organ has become a piece of furniture now, getting dusted once in a while. On really bad days I take Tramadol and that cuts out the pain completely, but I don't want to do that all the time. It does one heck of a difference to my legs when I suddenly zip up and down the stairs, which normally only goes in slow motion. And any anti inflammatory drugs play hell with your stomach, a vicious circle... Keep on with your super videos, I watch several every evening before bed time
Don't know if you remember my squirrel bite "miracle cure" for arthritis in comments on your back pain video. It seems to be the swelling when the bite on my hand became infected that had this effect. Since the inflamation on my hand has abated, I've had no arthritis in that hand. That was 4 years ago.The squirrel bit me when the cat brought it into the house to torment in comfort. As I said before, could be a little difficult to replicate this treatment clinically. Thank you Jerry.
It is great that you were trying to comply with the CITES regulations governing use of materials from rare or endangered species. For future reference though, I am in the UK and whilst many species of abalone are a no go, common mother of pearl, particularly from oysters and such, isn't on the lists and should be no problem importing to the UK. Might save you struggling with mother of toilet seat in the future 😀
boy can I relate to hand limiting my playing ability, and everything else for that matter, we don't realize how much we use our hands until they stop working the way we expect them to. all the best to you brother!
WoW, Jerry your skill set is out of this world, amazing, I love your background voice over and the music is fantastic, the time watching this just flew by, thank you so much for all your hard work in bringing this amazing content to all, i am telling my pals to watch your channel and subscribe, i cannot think of a more deserving channel for supporting, lets now watch for your first 100.000 subscribers. Thank you for all you do my friend. Peace and Love from Bonny Scotland.
If I had half the mind that you have and half the mind Randy Shartiger has, I would be a fourth as smart tomorrow. That's what my teacher wife said. Both of you make it look like magic. Thank you for the skill and knowledge! ! ! God bless.
The herb Turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin and this is reckoned to be useful for treating arthritis. If you choose to try this remedy, buy one that has the patented version called "Curcuwin" in it. The reason is, that the body finds it very hard to absorb curcumin- whereas that modified version is assimilated readily. In fact, if you check it out, curcumin has so many good effects on the body it is worth taking as a general tonic- which is what I do.
Sorry to hear about the arthritis and the left thumb. I had to have my right thumb joint rebuilt in 2010 because the cartilage was gone and I had bone on bone. The doc took a bone out of the thumb joint, used a piece of tendon from my arm and made a new "bone" to take its place. It worked like a charm but it was a SIGNIFICANT surgery with about 12 weeks of recovery time. Just to plant a seed, have you thought about building or modding a mandolin to have a wider neck which would change the grip geometry in your thumb? It might prolong your ability to play for a bit.
If you are going to try and stick metal to wood with Epoxy Jerry there are a couple things you can do to make the bond, bond. First is throw away 5 minute Epoxy. When I use an Epoxy I use one with the longest open time I can find. Usually somewhere in the 20 to 40 minute range. The longer the open time the stronger the bond. This is true no matter who makes the Epoxy. I sandpaper scratches into the metal component and always degrease the metal with acetone. Of the things that I like Epoxy for are; no need to clamp it if I don't want to. Unlike wood glues which require correct clamp pressure to bond to full strength. I usually hold an Epoxy bond with tape only. It will bond to full strength across a gap unlike wood glue which requires (as you know) full mate-ing contact . ** I never use dual applicator injectors as they always get contaminated or would that be cross pollinated and start curing in the tubes. I can keep separate bottles of resin and hardener alive for years. ** My latest reading on and experiments with wood glue say that there is an advantage to waiting 1 to 2 minutes after applying wood glue and before putting on the clamps. In that time the wood will absorb some of the glue. I will then apply another light coating of glue on both pieces and then clamp. I use this technique on end grain to end grain joints , as in miter joints; and have noticed an increase of the strength of the bond. How do I know? I do up a test joint using best procedure, give it 24 hours of cure time and then try to break it with my hands or in some cases a hammer. The harder I have to work to break the joint the more it impresses me. ** glad to see you are getting good use out of the contoured sandpaper holders. George
my left index finger was smashed years ago ,playing chords on upper frets makes it hurt someone suggested soaking my hand in hot water before playing ,it really helps alot
Sorry to hear about your arthritis, Jerry! My grandmother and my friend both have it in their hands, and my friend bought those copper thread compression gloves and he swore they improved his situation 80%. So maybe try getting a pair of those, its not a permanent fix but he says he can type and play guitar without any discomfort now.
I don't have much faith in things like wearing the copper bracelets excetera. Most of that stuff you really have to have a belief in it. And I truly don't
And,,, sometimes when a glue up is large or complicated I need more open time. When I do I may use Tite Bond 1 Extend. Same formula but twice the open time as regular Tite Bond 1. G.
Can't help with the Uncle Arthur problem but sure enjoyed the detail finish of the "twins"!! The matched weight is really amazing Doc. Anxiously await the finished products!!
Hey Jerry! ... looking real good ... like real 'Twins' there is just enough different to be authentic ... on the edge of my seat waiting to hear the sound!!! ... On another note I just want to say that being an aging picker myself I can sympathize when it comes to Inflamation and Arthritis ... Lately my greatest indulgence has been using Tea for what ails me ... Turmeric Tea in the morning for aches and pain ... Dandelion Root Tea during the day for focus and concentration ... Rooibos Tea which helps me fall asleep ... The best part is you can find them at just about any Grocery Store
I can relate to your problem with arthritis I am suffering from it myself . I am having trouble with the guitar now but can still handle the mandolin and Uke
I’m level sanding some primer on an electric bass. You’re pretty good company. 😀 Really like the I Just Rent it from God song. The others in today’s video were good to.
Hey Jerry-have watched an learned much from your videos and thanks a million for them-for the arthritis food grade diamotacious earth has pretty much cured mine-good luck Bob
I tried the Meloxicam and noticed slight improvement but it caused a bizarre side effect on me. I'd get this metallic taste in my mouth that would not go away. The doctors are gonna try me on something next month, I'll keep you posted if it works but so far they've said "a rolling stone gathers no moss". They want me to work through it, but honestly some times it's downright debilitating.
I use a cream prescribed by my orthopedic doctor. It's called Voltern Gel but there is a generic version I'm now using 'Diclofenac.' I was also taking the pill form of Diclofenac but had to stop because I have Stage 1 kidney failure and it is a strong NSAID which is not good for my kidneys. (Kidney doctor said cream was OK). Check with your Doctor and see if he/she will prescribe it for you.
Jerry, on the arthritis issue, I used to see a doctor in Maryland who subscribed to a theory that many auto-immune issues are related to hidden infections. His wife was on her way to a wheelchair, when he prescribed a basic antibiotic - the same as they subscribe to teenagers for bad acne - and she recovered to the point that they were racing tandem bicycles. His name is Dr. Mirkin. He wrote the sports medicine section of the MERC Manual, and used to have a syndicated radio show. He has a website with tons of information: DrMirkin.com. Look it up. Might help.
Hello Jerry, can you clarify for me how is the binding done? I didn't notice you nipping away the tang ends on the frets. Do the frets not go over the binding at all?
The Binding covers the ends of the Frets at least the first time you do it. After that if you replace the Frets they would have to go over the binding and you would have to file The Binding down flat
I wonder... superglue, here in Germany, sets with humidity (and yes, I've tested this). You're talking about an "accelarator". Is your superglue different?
Hay Jerry, I seen in Siminoff book he have’s a curved trust Rod. And it curves down in the neck’s heel. I never seen a trust rod like that do you know what the purpose of it.
Hey’ Jerry I also suffer arthritis in my hands and I found a company called Life Wave that makes these simple patches (non medical) and the Ice Wave patch works great for me I would be happy to send you a few to try . The cherry juice is a nasty joke - never again. Cherry and plum come from the same family, you might as well swig prune juice, spending more time on the loo than in the workshop...
The cherry juice didn't seem to have any effect on me one way or the other. I do like the taste of it but I sure was hoping it would help with the arthritis. Not a bit.

Jerry, that's incredible that you got them both to weigh exactly the same! They are both looking good!
Those Mandolins are sure looking GOOD!

@@RosaStringWorks hi Jerry, m s m is a sulphur compound, also, take glucosamine, it works a treat. Check it out on the net.
I hate those dual tube epoxy applicators!!! 😂
Awesome job!! 🤘🤘
I still buy them separately like in the old days and mix on a piece of glass.
When are the "it ain't easy being me" and "darn gone it" t-shirts coming out? What a great view from you workshop doors.
Again another fabulous build ! To be honest I was just wondering about the ncks being glued on teh right instrument glad to got it right
I see you got the siding done on the shop. It looks mighty nice Jerry. Spring looks pretty fancy in your neck of the woods.
Mr Rosa that's fantastic as I was gonna ask if you would leave one in its natural finish or a very subtle burst and you beat me to it Great
Great great video, looking forward to the next video....

I’ve been taking Osteo Bi-Flex for the past month for my arthritis. It’s been helping. Not cured but I can tell a difference.
Wow, the exact weight!! who'd have thunk!!!! What kind of wood are you using? and the same for the back Rose?
Have you tried a Whitney punch?

Got old Arthur in my hands, too. Especially the left thumb.Lots of good music this time.
"I can't be a fool anymore darlin". What song is this? Another amazing video Jerry. I've been educated further. Thank you brother.

Eggs are also binding!
I still think you ought to look at holly for your wood inlays. It's a light cream or ivory color. And it works well.
Can't you thin it down before you punch them out ?

You can also drink a silica water like Fiji.
nice work

Hey Jerry try CBD oil for your hands
Jerry**Check in the boxs of hardware I sent you** you will find the nuts that maybe 6/32- / 8/32 drill them out and tap the for 10/32**Chuck
Who would-a thunk a white mandolin would look so dog gone good?
Try some CBD oil on those hands. My wife tried it and got immediate relief. However, It won't keep you from banging on your fingernails ; > )
