After three gallons of epoxy and many hours I’m ready for the fun stuff, installing a sonar unit on Dingus II and thanks to your salesmanship it’s an Axiom+ 9 with the RV-100 sounder. Cheers from the mouth of the Columbia river, Illwaco Washington USA.
Stu I have to honestly say I really enjoyed this whole series. I've watched you take a boat it was barely floating, work your butt off and turninto a fully functioning vessel.just need some more loose ends and the engine, and you good to go! And the really cool thing is is I'm an electrician so I fiddle with wiring all the time, and I watch you do Boat wiring , I learn something new there as well! You have really good work ethic and I'm glad you're thorough, because nobody wants the excitement of having a wiring fire when you're out floating on the ocean! I'm looking forward to seeing the engine go in your boat! Keep up the good work!
For me I like navigation instruments easily reachable and adjustable from the helm seat. Always liked Ray Marine instruments. Nice series. Take care. Doug
Yes, I definitely think it is important to position any equipment in a way that really suits the way you use it. There isn't any absolute right or wrong but it must be right for you!
i'd like to see a ''walk thru'' of a marina like that, and a casual look at other Aussie aluminum boats others have.....''there's so xtra content for ya'', real simple. Finally!! never knew where the hell you all were!
Nice to see the development of Raymarine gear, it looks as solid as ever. Raymarine used me as a floating testbed on my charter fishing boats and I saw the development of the forerunners to todays equipment. I very seldom had to look at the instructions when testing new equipment it always seemed to be self explanatory and easy to use.

That New Sea Strainer on your friends boat seems less than robust as many of those Clear Polycarbonate fittings i have found after time especially that 'See Through ' types degrade and may become brittle after just a few years ...that plus folks dropping the inspection cover that then leads to threads being damaged or grit getting into same , then its a case of either cross threading same and then no being able to tighten same fully home can lead to all sorts of problems... worst of all is trying to use a Large Pump pliers on same ...truly messing up same...maybe that just me...great installation of that GPS Sat Nav and Sounder...
I have a Simrad GO9xse on a small center console. It is touch screen only and so far has worked great in choppy seas, while wet, and covered in fish slime. I was apprehensive about getting a display with no physical buttons, but after 2 years of use it hasn’t failed me yet. Knock on wood.
And Stu does it again with another great vid, a couple of things though, that fuse panel looks dated and the cables could be better organised, second thing I noticed, you must have started making the vid after beer o'clock because I didn't see one single stubby, tubby or tinny anywhere. 👍👍
Great viewing its November 22 now and I’ve bought the RayMarine element 7 combo HD transducer. The card did not come with my package but I am interested in the GPS I thought the screen like a phone had it built in? I am not sure treason for you putting the small dome in is for when out at sea better signal. I ended up putting ORCA on my iPad Pro. I live 5 miles away from the river Mersey Liverpool and not only did it show me the river but it give me all the boats in it and the names above the boats. Cracking free app. I have a Honwave t38ie3 dinghy, you can’t call it a boat but I plan going island hopping around the British coastline. Scotland alone has more than 175 islands and I possibly not sure may not get the signal I need for the Orca on my iPad. To be honest I only got RayMarine for the transducer for not hitting any rocks lol. Love your videos watch quite a lot thanks for sharing Ray K UK 🇬🇧. YNWA.
Hey mate I noticed when you were talking about ground for the RF unit that some of the red wires in the background were twisted. It probably isn't a problem but it could be producing some inductance. Your friend might want to look at that if he has any anomalies.
interesting video, offshore navigation isn't an issue here in SE Idaho, USA! (Partnered in a 31ft Criscraft, in San Diego several decades ago ..then it was all Marine compassion and navigation charts!)
That is an awesome unit but I would not put it up there. I hope you mount yours where most people mount their units. I love how you rag on Dave and he never even cracks a smile. I'm surprised he let's you on his boat. Haha
I have mine right above the gauges but I also have a 2nd on to the right. Both don't block my view over the bow. Now the ray marine is 2 to 3 times larger so not sure if he has room?
Hi Stu. On the rebuilt velvet drive transmission, I saw a short hydraulic line from the out to the in. I hope that was just temporary, and has since been run to a proper oil cooler?
Stu, why don't you look into an advanced electronic unit that you control over the internet, then drive your boat from the comfort of home. You never get wet, cold, (or drown if something goes really wrong)! They have cars that drive themselves, why not boats? Then when the auto-fisher has a nice catch, sit on the beach with your beer and a bikini-clad lass and watch the trawler come into port for a big fish fry... perfect! 😎
There certainly are boat system for driving by remove control. A lot of big boats use them so the skipper can walk down the back and drive it like a giant radio controller boat while docking. And so the bikini-clad lasses can see him. ;)
G'day Stu, great video, makes no difference to me which boat you're working on, I enjoy your presentation and content is always good. Boatwork is boatwork. How's Daves leg ? all healed now ? Loved is wee sea dog, cute or what ? Regards from South Wales UK.

We need a fish fighting chair and a huge beer/food cooler on the back. Glad you didn’t cut up The aluminum bracket. Maybee install an for/aft deck light. Ok great video. The main chart screen gives him his location, the current depth under the keel and the water temperature all on one screen so he just turns it on and does his day's work. I'm actually thinking of mounting mine on the far side of the dash where the navigator can see it better than the driver. I think it really depends on your use case.

Nice video Stu. I like the idea of seeing what is going on with boating in your area as well as the progress on your boat.
Thanks mate. There is always plenty going on around here with the local boats. I'd like to show more of them.
19:09 inner tube from a mountain bike tyre could act as a sleeve over the wiring to help protect it
Another thing I like to do is take a bit of vacuum hose, split it lengthways and then push it onto the metal edge.
