Had Gibson 355 Stereo/ Varitone Cherry Red - 1966. LOVED IT when I first got it! Later in life when I started playing advanced Jazz I realized this guitar had a "SLIMLINE" neck.... making it narrower at the nut. This made it difficult for jazz chord fingerings. I regrettably sold it some 22 years later and purchased a 1988 Gibson L4. I am actually considering getting another 355 with NO Bigsby and a standard nut width.
with overdrive it sounds really magical, especially on Neck pickup - very sweet and vintage sound. regarding Veritone - it hard to say - it adds something and cuts something. I think combination of this vintage Gibson + Okko Overdrive + Amplifier + very nice playing give in summery this feeling of "old true sound", which is so nice
THAT...is what an ES-355 was originally designed for; a smaller, light weight alternative to the big jazz bodies, while being punchy enough for good blues playing... Great guitar, great tones, great playing !!!
@clapton101 The backing tracks are collected from the web within the years... Sorry I don't know anymore from wich site. When I find a nice Track I'll store it on my computer and don't make a list with an archive wich track came from wich site... Too many tracks too many sites. I can't help with this question! Seach for "backing tracks" or "jam tracks" and you will find a lot
Good demo of the varitone. Gibson came up with a good innovation with that. For the poster asking qestiion about the stereo designation Going back into the 60s when Gibsom, were making amps, they produced a stereo amp. The switchcraft jack has a stereo contact for that, but it is not used in normal mono.
Hey what pickups do you think are best for a ES335 I like the way you play and the type of music you play but my ES 335 does not sound as good as the ones you play on these posts I bought it used and it has some crap pickups in it I want to change them but don,t know what to buy?????
The pickups are totally independent of each other; you would send each to a different amp, and if you separated them out by maybe ten feet, you would get a "stereo" effect with the totally different sounds, as in a stereophonic record and playback music system. Gretsch had a stereo system that divided up the strings left and right, which I think is waaay cool!
Of Course its how you play rather then what you play. PS Is your enjoying yourself on stage the people will enjoy themselfs n there fore love the group. At any avg show the odds of 1/5% of the people knowing you repeated, that would be rare. Even less rare if they didn't like or say anything. PPS My fav is even if some idiot speak out agains't you while there friends are having a good time. The people more often then not, will just excuse them as Jealous that your on stage and the Idiots is not. Lol

Great Demo, Awesome Channel, Amazing Guitars, and some really good playing Man. I thoroughly enjoy your videos keep it up!!!
the es-345 sounds with more soul, more feeling more power!
Very Nice playing..tasteful and musical with a hint of blues...I have a 1972 ES 335 since I was 17..Will never part with it. My pride and joy!

As always, fantastic playing and wonderful intruments.
I got the same thing. Love it
This 1978 Gibson ES-355 was the best guitar I've ever had, now have another equal with micro tuning .. this will never sell.
elle est ma-gni-fi-que! le son est sublime!!
1970's Gibsons are amongst the most distinctive, beautiful, and underrated guitars ever. Walnut stain, nitro finish, fantastic pickups . . . mmmmm!
Great tone. Exellent playing.
Great Sound an beautiful guitar !
Could you explain how you have your cable arrangement from guitar to amp - re stereo to mono please?
That is a beautiful guitar
Great sounds. I'd love to know where the tone knobs were setting on this amp.
A Little tip Greg. it would be nice if in each demo you could talk and tell us about the guitars :-) Happy new year :-)
The guitar is speaking for it self pretty good
like the tone at 2 so smooth
Was this guitar wired mono? Looks like your only running one amp. I can't figure out how to get mono from mine. It's also stereo.
It seems the Varitone cuts the Bass in a steady fashion .. Does it bypass the tone controls or do they also interact ??
Ive played quite a few 345s and the model above. Which one is better in you opinion??
@strwy2hvn94 B.B. King is doing that all night long (and it's great).... So, I think it depends HOW you play
@cliverkay bypasses the Varitone
the 335 -355 Is a les paul killer no doubt when in the hands of the right Assassin ..
This Kat is Killer with this Ax ..
Really nice sustain.
Magical
Just wonder why no one -- or almost no one -- ever demos these guitars in stereo ... I've seen one, but the guy was also demoing a Gibson stereo amp.
Why didn't Gibson have this varitone feature on Les Pauls as well...

ThroBaks have a wide range of super pickups to choose from.
I bet you're the kind of guy who would start the video with "Greetings!" lol seriously I'm about to get that 345! for real
I've noticed on the trusrod cap it says: "STEREO" and was wondering what it means??

@GregsGuitars Classic. Great answer. If he has 2 i can take the ugly one.
Amazing player, nice videos. But it would be great to hear some different styles of playing in every video so over the blues
@86shay86 hmm.... do you have a nice sister....?
Cool as a cucumber that's been in the fridge!
@86shay86 never
2:21 bb king sound
man man, wenn ich mal im lotto gewinne dann kauf ich dich leer, gregor :)
when you play live, is it ok to repeat some licks throughout the setlist?
