Great review Scott the x600 just sounds cleaner all around! I do agree that the JBL is more of a beach vacation type speaker mostly for its durability to the elements. Also your neighbors are really stoked you are retired now hahaha!

For me the quality of the sound of x600 is better than Xtreme, and it's still have a lot of room for improve because you can Tune in with 6 band EQ.
