I have TOU here also. The utility has stopped accepting more people. I used to pay $350-$400 per month (g/f mostly). Now down to $40-$60 per month. Charge my EV at cheap time 0900-1700. System has payed for itself. My new lithium batteries @7.6k ver 16 Costco 6volt still going strong after 5yrs.

A bit off the subject here but do you think you can do a series on a "stupid simple" 12 volt system? Something made of off-the-shelf retail components. The Harbor Freight/ Thunderbolt 100 watt system comes to mind. Maybe you could explain for us simpletons the pros and cons of 12v, 24v, 36v and 48v systems.
I've got a couple of outbuildings that I would like to put lights, cordless tool battery chargers, and other DC appliances in. I'd like to keep them 12 volt because I can buy 12 volt components at any auto parts store or truck stop.

      Mcrcoop
It's an energy cooperative that provides electricity in North Carolina and yes it is true they charge $12 per kilowatt hour for electricity during the highest on peak hour of the day, it's not during the entire on peak period... it is a non-standard pricing structure that is intended to help people control their energy costs in a very big way... By lowering your energy use across the on peak. To less than one kilowatt hour you can ensure that you only have to pay that $12 for one hour of each day... Check out their website to learn more about it because it doesn't mean that they have $1,000 electric bills... He kind of exaggerated that fact it's not like you pay $12 an hour or $24 an hour all day long it's one period in 24 periods of billing each day...

Yea thats a lot of out front cash on a system that after warrenty ends may end up needing full repair of batteries and such ,about the time u break even on the install ,in my opinion, solar should not cost so much to put in only to find u are still paying about the same rate for electric as u are after setting this up an haveing to redo most of the electronics after warrenty ,but some will risk the up front cost in hopes an thinking at somepoint it will pay out ,12000 is a lot of years of electric in most homes ,at 200 a month for grid power u have six years b4 breaking even on the system, at 140 a month u have even longer ,how long are tge batteries an solar components gauranteed for an will these companies even still be in business ,alot to take in for 1200 start up,just my opinion, yes solar is good to have but if u are doing it to save money on small scale is it worth the start up price,,
