As a judge myself, after investigating the jugging mistakes in this heat, correcting both Medinas and Coles wrong scores, I give to Medina, just cause that frog jump by Cole is not even a junction manouver (ok the lip was heavy..) but less real surfing ; Its for sure something else hhh
i dont disagree that this is the worst stop on tour, but lowers is nothing like this. the shape of lowers is more of a reef break than a beach break. if you watched last years final, watched any clip of lowers, or surfed lowers many times like me, you would know what the wave is really like.

O outro lado da moeda é JF que ganha 99% das baterias polêmicas como foi contra Medina em Margath River, contra Ethan Ewing em Pipe 2017 e tantas outras. Nada contra JF e Cole, apenas fatos.

Não sou expert, mas foi uma bateria muito equilibrada. O mar não estava legal naquela hora. A bateria do Ítalo teve muito mais possibilidades. Qualquer que fosse o resultado haveria reclamação. Ao meu ver a última onda do Cole foi só uma subida em uma onda já fechada. A primeira dele foi boa e poderia ter tido um score melhor. Mas a do Medina, mesmo sendo mais mexida teve duas manobras e um bom aéreo. Ou seja, decisão equilibrada. Que bom que uma vez na vida o Medina ganhou sem ser inquestionável.
don't get caught up in the close camera work. here is the wave at distance @3:01 in the video. the air itself is not 2.3 points better than Gabriel's air @4:52. Plus Gabriel did some turns before his air, which is 1.0 points just for those turns. Col does one turn @3:03, a horizontal 150 degree high tail throw air, landing tail forward, for 5.50. To repeat, Col's air is not even 180 degrees in the air and he lands tail forward before bring it around. Gabriel does two turns for 1.0 and does a more stylish somewhat flat 270+ degree air for 4.4 @4:54. Not as tail high as Col's air but more suspended. The scoring looks right; even a little generous towards Col.
@@gustavo299 yes. people are fooled by the high tail but Col landed it backwards on the face. Col is full of smoke & mirror tricks; like doing flat turns on the face at Bells but shooting lots of spray. Gabriel is a complete committed surfer.
A wsl é uma piada, sempre rouba de acordo com a etapa, o Medina foi diversas vezes roubado, mas como essa etapa é no Brasil é lógico que eles vão favorecer ele. O problema é o público ficar calado quando está sendo beneficiado pelo sistema, pois uma hora será prejudicado por ele.
They are in Gabriels home country. I give that last wave by House as a 4.5 and a heat victory. Competition is always going to be a little unfair. To win, you have to win big when you are in the other guys home.

Low scoring scale in that heat but at least they stayed consistent. Get some professional gymnastics scorers instead of old surf bums.

Medina had a smaller wave, less critical section, and flat spin. Coles wave bigger, steeper section, tail high.
