Leaf fans are the best fans in hockey. We love our team no matter what. We ride through every win, loss, and disappointment that comes with it. We’ve never been fair weather fans and never will be. We’re loyal and at the end of the day, that’s the most important trait of all. This team has reaffirmed my hope that one day we’ll watch them hoist the Stanley Cup. When that day comes, I’ll cry like a newborn. Go Leafs Go!!!!

I don’t think we Leafs fans realize how blessed we are at this moment in time with so much elite talent that is home grown and sitting among the league’s best in stats etc. It is easy to forget that not too long ago Vesa Toskala was allowing goals from 180 feet and Jason Blake was big FA signing and last but not least Mike Komisarek was Leafs no 1 Dman.

Life time leaf, absolutely zero reason that he’s not here for life. And don’t even mention Arizona, that’s never going to happen. Going home is different when you’d be going to one of the worst run organizations in hockey. It’s not even about the product on the ice. It’s everything else the maple leafs have that 90% of other teams don’t. Everything they do is first class of first class. Also the amount of opportunities he’d be giving up would be crazy. As a non-Leaf’s fan, I hope he is in Toronto long term. The only reason I could see him leaving is if the Leaf’s don’t do anything in the Playoffs. If they continue to choke in the first round, I think he leaves. Toronto is a great city, but winning the cup is every players dream.
@@alexe606 doubt it seeing as how the leafs have been a solid team every year he’s been here and I doubt things get that sour with the team. Also you make it seem like just leaving guarantees him a cup. Look at hossa for example. Left in free agency in back to back years and lost each year in the cup final. Also you underestimate the appeal of Toronto for a guy like Matthews. He loves the spotlight, loves the city and the opportunities he has here. Don’t think he’s chumming it up with superstars like beiber and drake etc in Florida or Carolina. Time will tell but I see him signing an extension a full year ahead of his next contract. If things go sour for whatever reason (I highly highly doubt it) he’ll be moved for a fuck load of assets. A lot and I mean a lot would have to go wrong for him to leave.

Christ ovechkin got bounced by Pittsburgh every year and ended up getting it done when he was 33. The the leafs deserve the criticism for playoff success but it’s amped up to another level just because it is the leafs. Im not making excuses but every year other than the last they were playing the best teams in the league and competing. Taking the caps to 6 and having 4 outve those 6 go to overtime. And taking debatably the best team in the league to 7 twice. Then kadri happend with the suspensions and what not. Point is it’s not as much of a disaster as everyone makes it out to be.

Definitely the best-performing Leaf that has put on the uniform in the past 90 or so years. The only one that's close is Turk Broda. As far as skaters, no one else really compares. Feels so strange having a player like this (not to mention Mitch - who might be #2 or #3 on the 'most talented Leafs of all time' list). Even when the Leafs were good in the early 90s, late 90s/early 2000s, the formula was a lot of grit and timely scoring combined with game-stealing performances from Potvin, CuJo and Belfour.
Toronto will have the cup in the city before 2030 for sure. Maybe a couple times. Also crazy to see the 23 year old kid have the highest contract in the league.
