- An overdue update of the Epic Egress move. For those just joining the Oxtoolco shop has moved 100 miles north to a new location near Placerville CA. Special thanks to, John, Ed, Jesse, Robert, Chuck, Gary, Jamie and Mark. Real friends will help you move heavy stuff and help hide the body. In this video you get to see me moving heavy machines around in a big game of tetris. Thank you all for you loyalty and support.
Keep going Tom. Good lord I can't imagine the amount of work this has taken so far. But it must feel good to have a forever home.
I cant agree more! That feeling of setting stuff up in the last shop (hopefully last) had got to be a great one!
It is my opinion that the "shop improvement" and/or general facilities videos are just as, if not more, interesting than the normal content.
I love watching shop tours, shop improvements and machine teardowns/cleaning/rebuilding stuff.
the normal stuff all the guys post just aren't as fun to watch, all though i learn a hell of a lot more from those usually.
@@ArniSPeturs Agreed. One of my all-time favorite video series was Steve Summers rebuilding the half of his shop that was falling off the hill-side. Was some of the best content on youtube in my opinion.
@@wheelieking71 yeah i recently got into watching this and found Steve Summers quite quickly, just got up to date with his videos in last week :)
but then i found this guy
ruclips.net/channel/UCVI8Mfisni3GaobL1e2JOIQ just starting, looks like his stuff is really good.
I've watched this channel long enough to recognize an old project lurking in the background - the Intaglio Press. What a patient wife!
Great to have you back. The new shop is amazing.
This is the first time I've seen the pallet jack/saw horse combo. Clever idea well worth remembering.
Looking good Tom. Glad to see it coming together for you.
Take Care and Stay Safe.
Bob
Having moved my workshop over the last year. Insulated the building, set up the power, etc. I know where you are coming from. Nice to see you back and have time myself to watch your progress
Man is it a good feeling when that last piece of equipment is finally off the trailer and on the ground and there are no mishaps.
Exciting times, Tom. Most often the big challenges lead to the best outcomes.
The only good thing about moving is that you usually find stuff that you forgot you had. The worst part is trying to find what you need for the next 3 months
Wow, you got some heavy equipment, and some strong wheels on that green machine💯, figured that the wheels would get stuck in those grooves in your concrete, very impressive saw horse 🐎 👏 too holding over 2,000 lbs, our saw nags shake when we put a piece of 1x1 square tubing 😆😆😆 bet you'll like being out to yourself once you get used to it! Good luck sir, can't imagine how much stuff you have moved/still have to move, but take your time and be safe!
It’s fun watching your new home come together
Looking good Tom! I might be just a tad jealous about all that space.
ATB, Robin
Amen!!! I Have moved my shops a few times in the 30 years, Always could count on 2 to 4 close friends, but as we get older the list reduces down do to old Age Sadly. But Hey with a little more planning and Patience and the willingness to lie a little to whom ever is left... I may be able to get er done one last time....
Man if only that shop had a bridge crane! 😎
Nice to have you back. I see your wife's long awaited project is still a work in progress. (Art paper press thing)
Tom!! Polish Avenger here! Good to see you again.
Sir just one word …… Respect ….. Partsmade 🇬🇧
You don’t realize how appreciated content like this is. I’ve never moved a “big” machine like that where I didn’t have a forklift or a loader or something to pick it up, or drag it at the very least. To be honest, I didn’t really know how to go about the process safely and seeing someone I respect as a very intelligent person actually do it is a definite confidence builder.
I think the biggest piece of equipment I moved alone was my 16” DoAll saw, and I just manhandled it onto a dolly. It’s not light, and I’m not exactly a big guy at 5’9” 185lbs, but I got it off the trailer and into my shop.
Trying to move anything much bigger with just brute force probably wouldn’t go that well. Last time I moved my bench top mill by myself I thought I was going to pass out, and it’s probably only 350lbs without the head on it. Still about all I can lift by myself since I hurt my back 10 years ago. So, I’m guessing I’m not going to carry a Bridgeport in alone any time soon 🤣 Probably need to resort to smarter options for that!
Never has the profession of Equipment Riggers been more appreciated!
pallet jack and burro blows my mind, LOL! Can't believe you're doing this by yourself, wish I had time off from work to help! If you need some grunt work help after the beginning of June, I'd love to help. I'm relatively close by, in Gilroy.
I'm sure glad you didn't let us watch you move cabinets around.... 'cause watching you move those big, heavy, (did I say big?), machines around was just SOOOOOOOooooo exciting!!!! You've made my day! :>)
Congratulations! I am so tired for your part ;) Pushing an elephant around the shop hehe
I preferred the previous cosy atmosphere of the modernist industrial setting BUT this shed is def a clear upgrade in logistic terms.
OH-Yeah! My favorite phrase "Remember the 'Chicklet' puzzles?"
Great looking set of dollies you have there.
Good luck in your new shop
Shop is looking great Tom. I hope you kept the cool handle from your sliding door at the Benicia shop.
Hang in there, Tom... It will all come together in time. Cant speak for others, but im going to be here waiting for you.....!
Rome wasn't built in a day. All updates are good to see 👍
glad to see you're doing well. 👍👍😎👍👍
Wow! Machinery skates that actually LOOK like skates!
good job Tom lots of bar work one of those batterie powered fork lift things you can walk along with would have been real handy with the placement of all the machines as you do have quite a few of the bigger type also be handy later as you always need to move things and it always the heavy ones cant weight to see the final set up lets hope you got it all in the right spots the first time cheers Tom
Nice to see you back Hope the shuffling go's well be safe
Congratulations on your move, now the fun really begins. With all your outdoor room there, you could have a Bar Z bash North.
If I wasn't so far away Tom, I sure would come over and help you move those machines around.
As one of your viewers who's putting together their own shop (mainly woodworking) I can fully appreciate the effort you're putting into your shop. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Thanks Tom! Can't wait to see what the first thing is you need to create for the new shop. Like others have said it's fun and very interesting to watch a new shop be put together. Especially when you have some idea just how much stuff you really have after watching years of videos from uou.
Glad to see you're back! Shhh....don't tell the others but i loved your content most of all.
You're fortunate the new shop has decent concrete for the floor so you can use those "skate" dollies. Some of the concrete work done on those out-in-the-country buildings is really poor--rough and uneven. Yours looks nice.
Re: insulation--an absolute must there in the foothills. Winters are mild, but summers can be hotter than the hinges of Hell. I grew up in Concord, where it could be really hot in the summer during the day, but at night the winds would blow cooler air in from the bay. By the time you get halfway to Stockton, no more cooler evenings, and it's pretty much the same in the foothills.
one big workout !
well done tom

Good to see the famous "Etching Press" make a cameo before it is stashed away from public view.
Man, that is a back - and knee breaking job!!
And there was the etching press as well👍
Good to see you back. Stay safe Tom!
Happy New Year, Tom! Glad to see you're still doing well. ATB!
It’s good to have you back Tom. Looking forward to the new shop updates and progression. All the best from the UK
Yeah, buddy! Congratulations on completing Phase 2, shop looks great. I am in the midst of re-configuring & moving my shop- best of luck finding everything when you’re done lol. Many thanks for the videos- they are always appreciated, keep ‘em coming please . Onward!!!
Man glad to see you back and doing well. I just moved my 9000 sf shop in oct so i feel your pain
Great to see you back and making progress with the new shop Tom, looking forward to see more when you can fit it in. Thanks for the video!
Having made many moves both personally and shops where I worked you have my continued best wishes, respect, cheers, and sincere hope or your personal survival!
Awesome update. Hope you will enjoy the new workshop. I definitely see your point of view regarding moving stuff around. My shop is tiny and moving just one box means I get to play a sliding puzzle game - ladders included. My advantage is - I can pick my lathe with one hand with no special effort... :)
I will watch any content you put up, any time.Thank you for sharing with us.
It is good to see that you have completed the egress. I had been wondering how it was going. Stay safe and healthy and I hope you get everything settled quickly.
Hey Tom, sorry I'm late, had to go get my t-shirt :) Let the epic ingress commence!
Awesome stuff Tom, this shop feels like a nice fit so far! All those California trees sighed relief when they realized it was all metalworking machinery moving next door ;-)
I saw a glimpse of that etching press with that beautiful wheel! Would love to see an update video on it. Was it ever finished?
good to see you again, getting there..nice.
Good luck in the new place Tom, thanks for everything you share with the community you've taught me a lot about a trade I didn't know I had such a big interest in, I don't think the yt platform would be the same without your content or the other guys out there with channel's, thank you everyone 😊
The cluster "f" comment made me lol...we feel your pain !
Happy to see it all coming together! Been there and done that. Always end up moving machines after the fact
Good to see you young guys working so hard. Sure wish that I could help out.
Going well.Thank you.
Can't wait to see everything in the new shop would like some pics of the old shop with everything taken out best of luck with the new place
Great to see you made the move and the new space looks great!!
Great video Tom, shop looks good, keep them coming!!
Good to see you Tom! Happy New Shop!!
Thanks Tom.
I read the quotes at the end of every video.
They are always interesting.
It is not often I see one from you.
Good to have you back!
Glad you're back. Happy new year
Good to see you back!!!!
Go Tom! Happy New Year. One thing at a time will get it done even if you feel Sisyphus at times. Cheers, Will
Great progress, thanks for sharing
Hey Tom! The shop looks to have plenty of potential and I’m sure you will get maximum use out of it! You must really appreciate having such a shop in your own backyard! Looks like you have lost a fair few pounds yourself mate your looking healthy. All the best
Looks good man! Sounds like a pretty solid pad which is sweet! Enjoy and lookin forward to how the Ox nest is gonna look!
I hope you have looked into spray foam insulation. Costs a bit more, buy oh so worth it. Good to know you are alive and making progress. Thank you for the update
It shows you did a lot of labourintensive work. It seems you lost some weight. Happy to see another video. (and thanks for the metric equivalents, appreciate).
I noticed he leaned out a bit as well.
Lookin good.
Good to see you Tom. You do have your work cut out for ya. Keep smilin
Good to see some progress from the other side of the big blue ocean.
I almost feel guilty for not buying a T-shirt 😉 but I am moving my shop at the same time, trying to tie the ends together while recycling as much as possible from the old shop.
Like a lot of us, I am very familiar with the so called 15/16 puzzle: 15 numbered blocks in a 4x4 grid with just 1 open place to move the blocks around. The only problem I have is that this open place somehow automagically is filled with all kinds of things that need to go in the shop also ...
Glad to see you've touched down safely. I wore my egress t-shirt just the other day.
More progress, looks good Tom!
I love the idea of running a bar between two of the skates to keep them in line. I wil have to remember that when I have to move a piece of heavy equipment in my shop.
Give me a place to stand, and a lever long enough, and I will move the world. Yep, But master A failed to mention it's still hard work and takes a lot of time. Thanks for sharing Tom!
Good to see you again.
Moved a Southbend 9A by myself, what a pain in the ass. Can't imagine stuff like the big bandsaw or the mill with the higher CoG and inability to conveniently remove the headstock, tailstock, gearbox, motor, etc like I had to
I am really looking forward to new videos. I live vicariously through your addiction to extreme metrology!
Good to see your back!
Glad you're back!
GREAT update on new shop/home move Tom 💪💪👍👍✔✔
great video - thank you!
I was literally thinking about you just yesterday. Hurray :) You live
Happy New Year Tom.
And it looks like it will be for you and Ox Tools in that new workshop.
Unless someone has moved around objects weighing 1000's of lbs, on their own,
with leavers,
wedges, rollers and sweat...
I doo like your skates.
You wouldn't happen to have the design drawings?
Look after yourself!
It's the same pattern as Keith Rucker's but yours is metal so should keep the big bad wolf out. You must feel like all your Christmases have come at once. Lucky man you sound to be pleased with the whole plot.
Would a Johnson bar work a little better on the concrete? Man that first machine is a big boy!
Give me a lever long enough and I’ll move the world. Got to admire the power and simplicity of a good pry bar no matter how much I use one
Man I envy you and I don't. Glad to hear you got everything under one roof again. Look forward to seeing how you put YOUR shop together.
Excellent point on using only three skates. I have a set of four, and having one lose its connection to the burden on minutely irregular floors is real and annoying. Dunno why I never thought of just using three. The tie rod is also an excellent system. I don't know if my skates have a good way of doing that. It's been a while since I've used them.
Mr Lipton. Wish you best and can't wait for your content!
Mr. Lipton I know it's late but, Happy New Year to you and your family.
Looks like good progress, stay safe. Moving is a PITA!
glad you're making progress. I moved my shop last year and I'm still not quite done, and it only moved 400 feet!
Old shop must be storage now, eh?
I moved my shop when we bought our house. Almost 9 years ago. I still find myself going back from time to time thinking "if it's not here it must have been left behind.".
Started in a old horse barn at my mother's house.
@@JamesKain it's true! i still walk in there get grab something off of the workbench and it isn't there
I would love to see a sketch of you work flow when you get to that point. Frankly, just figuring out where to place machines would drive me crazy.
Amazed at how much stuff has moved.
