Pat I'm 43 and I've been a WVU fan all my life, the thought if that game still hurts me to my core whenever I think about it. You were a great kicker and that's what I remember about you, I don't blame you for that loss nor does the state of WV. Almost everything went wrong and that's that's the only way something like that could've happened, we were a far superior team. But I wish that Rich Rod would've given you the opportunity to kick a field goal in the next to the last possession. I think you would've hit it and we would've had a far better chance to win that game. That's what I remember, you are the best kicker to ever play at WVU remember that and all of the good as you were great and so was that team.
I’ve been a mountaineer fan from birth went to WVU and watched you play Pat and the blame for the game doesn’t fall on you and from my viewpoint you will always be one of my favorite mountaineers
Pat, You will probably never see this comment, however I figured it is worth writing anyway. WVU did not lose to Pitt because you missed 2 field goals. I was at the game. We couldn’t move the ball against them for some reason. We had the most lethal offense in CFB and scored 9 points. Honestly I remember fans being more angry with the play calling than your missed kicks. I am from the Morgantown area and was a student at the university while you guys playing. That team under coach Rod gave us so many good times. You all are appreciated more than you know. What you’re doing now as an advocate for WVU with your platform is almost impossible to believe. A lot of people don’t even know WV is a state, let alone care about our athletic programs. Every mountaineer fan owes you a tremendous amount of thanks and praise for what you are doing. I am happy to hear that you have finally come to terms with the outcome of that game. What you did for WVU as a player far outweighs 2 missed kicks in one game. Dont let that nightmare live in your head. You’re a WVU legend dude.
Hey man, I'm a Buffalo Bills fan and have been for 54 years. We all try to understand what it was like to be Scott Norwood and the truth is, he was a big reason the Bills made it to that Super Bowl. Thank you Pat! This what talking about over coming SI is really about. Everyone has had the thought it might just be easier to end it, but we gotta talk about how real that feeling is in order to take back the power it has over our ability to control it
I know Pat just told the story with passion, but you don't truly understand how special those years really were. Being in Morgantown during that era was an unbelievable experience. Also, 2007 was the craziest year of College Football ever. The year of the dreaded #2
Lifelong WVU fan here and Pat u r the GOAT!! We love u in this state and r proud to call u a mountaineer!!
Man, I appreciate you sharing. I hate that WV fans (often not from WV) can be so awful at bad times. I had same feelings smaller level blowing State championship in that stadium on a 2 point pass. My older brother stayed home from college and probably saved me. It still haunts me 30 years later. So many great games and memories to get there but all I see is that play in the closed end of the stadium.
Man, I love this show!!!! Passionate and honest. Not many shows like this. LEGIT!!!!!
now imagine how Scott Norwood feels from the bills.
"Good one Patrick"... we are proud that you are a part of the Mountaineer family.
These are stories we all love to hear. The truth and raw.
Been watching from the beginning. This moment was my favorite!
Played just 1 year at WVU and ran track the other years. YOU are loved at WVU man. Loved
I got to say, as a Native West Virginia EER, I had the same pit in my stomach, Hearing Pat’s retake, that I had 15yrs ago when I watched that game, & the whole states dreams came crashing down. But everything happens for reason..
This is why I love your show. Thank you for sharing.
I will always love you pat, that loss wasnt your fault ive been a wvu fan since birth and that 2007 team is something ill never forget
Love this show man! Pat's a real one.
Proud of you, Pat for showing your vulnerability, and honesty, and for finally letting go of the guilt. You set an example for others to follow. Carry on the good work…
We love you Pat.
THANKS FOR THE MEMOIRES PAT!!! I watched all the WVU games with dad who's from WV. GOOOD TIMES!!!
Thanks for being real, Pat. Thank you.
Pat, I know this is a year after this episode but your wvu team provided the best memories of my life…. We love you man! I met you once (I was in jr high)…. WVU still Needs You!
Thanks for sharing. It’s never on one player or one play. I am sure many other players also felt like they missed plays that night but the kicker is always the one who takes the heat. Life goes on and your doing great at that. Take care
This story was legendary. Raw.
This is beautiful. So happy for you
Pat you are the best kicker/punter we've ever had. You were one of the main reasons WVU was even in position to go to a champ. WVU loves you Pat!
Man I'm glad to see where you are now compared to then. It always pains my heart reminiscing on that season but I can't imagine what you went thru. Those were some magical times and all I did was watch, never be another WVU team like that.
My step-dad is big WVU fan and I'm OSU. It would have been incredible national title game.
Love this guy and I'm a diehard Pitt fan. You just have to respect authenticity
You bounced back well Pat
I saw multiple former mountaineers cry that day. Didn’t get a student ticket that day so a friend got me a seat with a bunch of former mountaineers mascots. Loving what you have become! Keep repping WVU! “Where them couches burn and them kegs get tapped”
Thanks for being real. So glad you decided to go to that underground poker game and made your way to WVU. Things don't always go the way we want them to and those defeats make us the people we are meant to be.
The world would not be the same without you Pat! We love you! Keep bein fuckin awesome!
Pat we love you and appreciate you. You are special. Keep it up!
Love this channel
Dang Pat thank you for sharing man I know it not easy keep up the good work 👍
I've heard of Pat for a while now but never heard of this incident so I'm glad he's able to tell this story since pat's a great storyteller
Pat,
You will probably never see this comment, however I figured it is worth writing anyway.
45 years old..Born and raised in West By God!!! We love you Brother and always will. Once a Mountaineer always a Mountaineer
Student at WVU in the 70s, staff at WVU in the 80s
I bleed Blue n Gold - and for the old timers
Lets GOoooooo Mountaineers !
The past might be dark but your future is bright my friend! Love ya Pat!!!
Love and respect you Pat!
That 07 team inspired me to go to WVU myself. Don’t sweat it man. Thanks for being part of that wicked team
Hey man, I'm a Buffalo Bills fan and have been for 54 years. We all try to understand what it was like to be Scott Norwood and the truth is, he was a big reason
the Bills made it to that Super Bowl. All you can do is be the best person you can be every day of your life. Be kind, be humble, have humility and be loyal to your
true friends. You have done more for young kickers than you think just being an honest hard working role model. You got this and everyone knows it. But you have to know it
deep down inside.
7 year old WVU fan at the time watching that 2007 WVU team, those games of you guys are memories that will last me a lifetime watching those games with my dad. People from other places just don’t realize what WVU football means to the people of our state it’s all we got and our football team carries that underdog and blue collar reputation that the population of the state has, you won’t find fans as connected to our team as us WVU fans.
LOVE you Pat and the entire WVU family. Real Mountaineers always have each other’s backs! 💙💛
I only remember my failures on the field....... One of which was to Gary Stills, Amos Zereoué, and Co in Morgantown.
I'll be honest, I had no idea this happened to Pat. It explains a lot. I appreciate him so candidly sharing; I can't imagine how difficult that would be to carry
@patmcafee as a fan and fellow classmate of yours, we luv ya Pat!!! No matter what, w/o you we don’t get to that point. All those crazy ass experiences at wvu, whether good bad or indifferent were life lessons. And we all had a F-amazing time watching you guys do what you did and kick some ass!!!!
This Storyline Reminds me of Dallas Cowboys losing 3 Huge game due to Greg Z last year…. Felt like it even took there Motivation/Will to win after that…
i remember balling my eyes out at home when i was in 4th grade and hating this McAffee guy with all my heart and soul for missing out on the natty… little did i know this guy would be entertaining me everyday years later. life’s funny
I almost walked on to UW River Falls when Own Schmitt was still the full back there. Then he transfered to West Virginia
Jay Henry was a hometown friend of mine - thanks for the shoutout!
You are awesome Pat
