Wonderful commentary. The Flint Hills is Beautiful country.
This summer I took a driving trip from California to Illinois and in planning my route, I watched this stunning video and decided to stop at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas. It was beautiful and worth the stop to pay tribute to small gem of American geography.
I love my Kansas Flint Hills and am happy to live on the western edge.
“The beautiful face of [the original prairie] had faded before I was born, before I had a chance to touch and feel it, and all that I have known of the prairie is the setting and the mood-a broad sky of pure and intense light, with a sort of loftiness to the days, and the young, prairie-borne winds running past me from open horizons.” -John Madson
Great documentary, thanks for sharing.
Ive worked on Ecological Restoration programs in Western Southern Ontario Canada, working with our last Tallgrass Prairie and Oak Savanah, The CITIES, GOLF COURSES, AND ROAD SERVICES. spray these garbage seed mixes along highways all over North America introducing devastating invasive grasses, Timothy Grass, Quack Grass, Fescue, Reed Canary, and a host of other invasive grasses and weeds are detrimental to efforts to restore these important ecosystems.
The full version of this is great, educational, and very moving.
Hi Maggie. I couldn't find any place to watch the whole documentary. Where were you able to watch it? Thank you!
Did you know there is a Tallgrass Prairie in Illinois? It is part of the USDA Forest Service located at Wilmington Illinois and is called Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. This is just south of Joliet on State highway 53. In approximately a year there will be buffalo roaming there.
Deborah Bates So did that happen? Are there really buffalo there?
Fabulous.
