Today I look into the reasons why so many wife guys and 'family men' cheat on their spouses. Is it to feel more masculine? Or just plain stupid? Or both? Comment your thoughts below.

@@tony2001ify if you feel you can't commit to a monogamous relationship just don't. If you start to look at other people and fantasizing about it it's time to go. It's all about respect no one is forcing you into a relationship just do the decent thing a breakup before you cheat. I think most people are so afraid to be alone they rather be scumbags and cheat than leave a relationship and be alone for a while.
Alex and Ned weren't colleagues. He was her BOSS. It's a very important fact, because not acknowledging this helps people like Ned downplay the severity of their actions. I'm tired of people getting this wrong.
I think this fact is super important because it shows how overblown his ego has become. It’s revolting to cheat on your wife, it’s even worse to cheat on her with someone who DIRECTLY REPORTS to you. Even if it was consensual there’s no getting away from the power imbalance.

@@soho6435 never said or suggested it excused anything. What they did was wrong. But the fact that Ned had so much power over her - as a *co-owner* of the company that she worked for - made it much worse on Ned's part than just having an affair with a colleague, which is already a bad thing to do.
Exactly why he decided to put the words "consensual workplace relationship" into his so-called apology. This was so much worse than just cheating.

Her boss, an owner of the company, the head of HR, and back at buzzfeed he did a lot of hiring and likely had some say in her hiring. Not to mention that she was a try guys fan before she became their employee. The fact that anyone blames Alex or believes there’s any reality in which this relationship was consensual is so beyond me. If saying no could cost your health or livelihood, it doesn’t matter if you would’ve said yes anyways.
She’s in the wrong too. She knew he had a wife, and she had a fiancé herself, but she didn’t care.She’s just as bad.

i know for me personally, it takes a whole lotta focus to make sure the lady i'm having sex with is in fact my wife. it totally sucks when you get distracted and accidentally end up having sex with a person you're not currently married to. it's like, "oh whoa you mean the person i was booking a seedy motel room to sleep with wasn't actually you??? ah damn baby i'm sorry, i was so focused on other stuff that i didn't even notice"

The creepiest part was him always referring to her as "my wife" and not" Ariel" or "my wife Ariel." The other Try Guys refer to their partners by their names. He basically talked about her like she was a prop. Like maybe in the beginning she didn't want anything about her being public but when she became part of the team and was frequently in their videos he would still refer to her as "my wife", as if it was her only reason for existing.

Very interesting observation. Many people use distancing language in deception and they will often steer clear from using names or personal identifiers in a way to distance/separate themselves from a situation or person.
An even bigger red flag is saying,
"The wife."
This is how some serial killers addressed their family.
Let's be clear. He didn't get fired because he cheated on his wife. He got fired because he was a BOSS who was sleeping with his EMPLOYEE, which completely negates what he horrifyingly called a "consensual relationship".
Nope. He was fired because they had to save their business and that was a safe way to do that. Sleeping with employeed is absolutely legal in probably most areas of the world.

It is consensual if Alex agreed to it whether she’s a subordinate or not. Let’s not ignore that she’s a GROWN ASS OLD ASS WOMAN AT THE RIPE AGE OF 30+. This isn’t a minor & an adult situation. Ned shouldn’t have used his authority to put an employee in a terrible situation but at the same time she needs to take accountability for not only cheating with a married man but cheating on her own husband. If it was a threat she could’ve reported it. Idk about you but no job or social media pressure is worth my marriage yet she choose to ruin 2 marriages.

Worst partners I've had, who spend the least time with me, share lots of photos. However, talking about your partner a lot usually means that they are a big part of your life and you are proud of them. But then most of us talk to few people, and work jobs where we don't talk about our lives, so it is very different to talking at millions of people that are strangers, about our lives.
I'm the same way, tho I do post big stuff (anniversaries, birthdays, and big events we go to together), my boyfriend and I don’t post stuff all the time on socials and it's only friends who see it
Same my husband barely posts anything doesn't try to show too much affection in front friends and family. The love he shows is when we're together alone and it's a very real love, not for the world, for me. That's what i appreciate.

They probably wouldn't have cared if they would have been able to cover it up, but with Ned and Alex behaving like they did in public - no way. They are not upset about the infidelity (unless they are Moral Morons), they are upset about one of them threatening their business.

If they fired her, she can claim wrongful termination. Also about Ned, him being her boss puts him in authority. Her job depends on him. At any moment something could have gone wrong.
Yes Alex willingly cheated but Ned being her boss at extremely relevant at the end of the day. She could have switched up and said she was forced into the "consensual relationship" Ned claimed it was.

This is a good video, and I found the exploration of cheating being rooted in masculinity very thought-provoking. However, I think you missed the most crucial part of the situation, which is the power dynamic between Ned and Alex. While cheating is immoral and I’m sure the other guys don’t agree with it, Ned wasn’t fired for cheating. He was fired for abusing his power as a boss and owner of the company by cheating with his employee. While Ned and Alex were both in the wrong and I personally believe they both deserve criticism, Ned’s situation is more crucial given the disgusting abuse of his position, power, and influence.
How does someone 'lose focus' for 10 months with someone they work with, who knows their wife and children? HOW?!

Then, they became careless, which made the "cost" go up.
His wife takes him back (for whatever reason), so the simplest (!) option for him is going back. No risk of losing the kids etc. Pp.
Not ethically sound, it doesn't make Ned a good guy, far from it, but it explains why he did what he did.

As another comment said, not cheating isn't being perfect. Remaining faithful to the person you love is literally the bare minimum and they're acting like they're making the biggest sacrifice by "not giving in to their natural manly urges" and cheating.

I had the privilege of growing up in a family that was built on a strong, loving marriage. My dad loves my mother so much, she’s like a part of him or something. Staying faithful is never a chore like cheating men make it out to be
The fact that your experience is rare is part of the reason this blew up social media in my opinion. Like statistically a large group of us young people watching the try guys are from divorced families and seeing a “loving” marriage made us happy. I know I was fooled into thinking he must love and cherish his wife by all his lovey talk.

I'm not gonna lie, the only reason I didn't watch the TryGuys stuff is because his obsession with his wife creeped me out. In one video, he mentioned her, like, 7 times... I unironically felt like something worse than cheating was going to happen. I hope the best for the family, though. Excellent video, btw, you made some great points. Overcompensating seems to almost always be the case in these situations.

There’s been actual academic studies demonstrating a correlation between the more a couple posts about each other the more likely that there are serious underlying issues in their relationship

a thing I’ve been thinking about a lot about online personalities becoming your “brand” is that… it must be so terrifying to change at all because that is your livelihood, your career is your personality and relationships. For a wifeguy, it becomes impossible to admit to your loved ones that your relationship is suffering because that could literally cost you your job and then they do stupid shit and ruin it anyways. Couldn’t imagine making my life as it is now my own brand forever, and letting whether i reveal that I’ve changed as a person come down to a branding/financial decision. That has to fuck with your head
i understand that this doesn’t have as many likes because you’re empathizing for Ned; but honestly i appreciate your stance because i think it’s brave to say an _actually_ unpopular opinion- and it’s not that you commend his actions either but it shows the complexities of feeling forced into a corner of an identity box.
AGREED. As a Mother who just filed for divorce from my husband for reasons not at all related to infidelity and cheating, I believe there are so many things in life that matter - this is not our business and we have no clue what his marriage dynamic is. Our society is determined to “not care” to avoid getting hurt and pushes the notion of “you can’t trust anyone that’s why I stay single” just based on incidents like this but I wonder then - what’s the point of life for these people? If you don’t want to be happy, which means being able to love, even if it’s a relationship with ONLY yourself (which requires the greatest amount of trust) - what’s the point? I also think it’s insane how people place these influencers on a pedestal and then tear them down at the first opportunity they get. I’m not sure why channels like this who PROFIT off exploiting other peoples’ pain aren’t being dragged off their high horses. The hypocrisy is insane. Not to mention, this guy didn’t make an entire channel ABOUT his family; he didn’t do the Ace family thing or what pretty much every other family channel does. I don’t feel that he intentionally fooled people just by expressing that his family is his focal point in life - and him having sex with someone else doesn’t mean that everything he says about his wife isn’t true. He might be deeply in love with his wife and maybe they have an understanding, or maybe she’s not the Angel everyone assumes she is just because they’ve seen a few clips of her - not to say anyone “deserves” to get “cheated” on, but that none of us know what happens behind closed doors in a relationship. Especially a marriage with a child, speaking from experience.
When my family and friends found out about my divorce, it was very much like this - a HUGEEE scandal, unbelievable, nobody understood it because my ex husband was (and still is) madly in love with me and most people who knew us thought we really had it all. And we did for a while, but life is a bitch. There are far worse things than cheating IMO, I’ve been cheated on by an ex, but I genuinely wish my ex husband only had sex with someone else as opposed to verbally, emotionally and otherwise being unbelievably abüs!v3. The thing about cheating is it’s almost never about the person being cheated on, but when someone hammers you down over and over trying to change who you are, that is intentional and it’s directed at you and meant to hurt you. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with me and I know that NOW, but if my husband cheated, I could’ve moved past that easily if it was purely physical. I’ve had urges more times than I can count, especially while pregnant.
A lot of people are throwing biological truths out the window here and blaming societal conditioning, but biology is real and alive and people offended by its existence have no choice but to get over it because biology changes for no man nor his whimsy - it influences our choices via our physiology, not the other way around. Societal influence can create monsters, but biology merely seeks to preserve the human (or other) race. Pheromones are real, Motherly instincts are real, “biological time-clock” is a real feeling within many women that is partially to blame because of society but it’s also innately within us because procreation is integral to our existence. There’s a reason men have been “seed-spreaders” for millennia and a reason women often care for the child when one person leaves - as women, we spend an entire year growing our children inside of us, that process bonds us to our children so that they’ll be protected by us when they’re born, in order to survive and later reproduce. Men are biologically inclined to bond with their children once they become more sentient, but their real disposition is to create millions of more babies - hence billions of sperm.
I know this is getting way off topic lol but my point is, after a long marriage, 2 prior engagements, 3 extra relationships longer than 1+ years, being cheated on in the past and cheating once myself, experiencing loss and real tragedy, and now being a single Mom *by choice* because it is what’s healthiest for my son and I, I’ve learned that sex with someone who isn’t me is so low on my list of what makes a good partner, and I wish more people were open to the notion of COMMUNICATION regarding monogamy instead of throwing away lifetimes over indiscretion. When your needs aren’t being met for whatever reason, you can become almost animalistic in finding ways to fulfill those areas of your life - for my ex, it was emotional affection, and I failed him, I know I did and it must have been horrible for him. I wish I had this insight back then, but I also know we grow from our mistakes and move on and (hopefully) become wiser. My needs that weren’t being met were MANY, but in his own way, he was “giving this everything he has” - to him that meant working overtime almost daily - remotely no less - to provide financially for me and our child. But it didn’t make me happy and no matter how much I tried to express that, it fell on deaf ears because HIS conditioning led him to believe that money and financial stability are THE MOST important things in life. To me, the love of your family, peace of mind and health are all I truly need. I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor and I find I’m happiest with just enough to get by and have an ice cream with my son here and there - I choose this life even though I could also choose to return to my ex who makes $150k/year which is a LOT where I live. But money is not love to me, nor is sex. Neither of the two could make or break my marriage, it ended up being as simple as his anger and refusal to seek proper help to the point our baby was afraid and that was what made it very clear to me that it was time to go. That’s why I have such a hard time empathizing with people who waste so much energy on being upset about affairs of the flesh, or “cheating,” ESPECIALLY when it happened to someone that isn’t even them! People today are very lonely, and our obsession with exploiting moments like this are why. It’s foolish and we’re almost spitting in the face of life by not engaging in more happiness and less drama.
Sorry lol as you can tell this is a very big problem for me - not cheating because I don’t even believe “cheating” is a realistic idea - I don’t believe the average person will never be attracted to someone else for the rest of her life, and as we know that regular 0rg@sm$ lead to better health and happiness, it seems insane to me to have a society so conditioned to hate it. I wish people would talk more, open their minds to different ways of life, maybe take a page out of the book of how Romans and most ancient civilizations lived and realize that JUST BECAUSE it’s often a man who is compelled biologically to have sex with more different women does NOT mean we’re all “internally misogynistic idiots” if we allow our relationships to be open when it comes to sex. Some of us just value things like love, support, a good parent as a partner, and being alive with working limbs and eyes in general more than we care about our partner having sex with someone who isn’t us. I still believe in marriage but probably won’t legally get married again, but I love the romantic ceremony and the idea of a lifelong partner - so long as we OPENLY DISCUSS both of our needs, how we will ensure both of us are having our needs fulfilled, and simply that we continue to communicate and roll with the tide. I guess when you’ve experienced great loss and actually learned from it, a lot of things that used to be important (being “cheated” on) become so irrelevant that you get embarrassed at how jealous you used to behave!
I kinda agree with your statement because it is natural to feel that way but what Ned did was unacceptable even if he felt that way.. I don't think ppl would have hated him if he divorced Ariel and then found someone and obviously someone who is not a subordinate at work who is also in a relationship with someone else.. but if he did find someone after that, it wouldn't have been a problem.. I would have stood by Ned if that had happened..

I understand where you're coming from and respect that you brought up this point. However, I completely disagree with it specifically because there's already so much precedent of using your family for clout ending terribly for all involved. In a word, it's simply exploitative. How many child actors and children of vloggers grow up entitled, narcissistic, jaded, emotionally unstable, etc? How many Hollywood or social media famous couples end up divorced after years of showcasing their charmed love together? No one likes to feel used, and if you have to play happy spouse/child all the time, the pressure mounts, yet what outlet do you have that doesn't hurt the brand? Hence, down-low coping mechanisms like drug abuse, affairs, etc. And honestly, how can you feel for the guy who initiated this whole facade, and yet _he's_ the one who cheated? He should have "focused" his brand on his creativity and left his personal life out of his professional one.
I met Ned because he came into my old job to order. I didn't recognize him at first because I was looking for his wife's face to confirm that it was in fact him. The woman he was with is apparently the woman he cheated on his wife with. I only got a picture with him and not of him with the girl, but I swear on my momma's momma it was her
How are we forgetting Adam Levine? Adam being smitten by Behati, being a doting husband and father despite being this famous popstar was his whole persona. I became enamoured by Adam when i saw him being such a supportive husband to Behati in VS shows, always standing up to clap for her, kissing her sweetly on the ramp and then so vehemently cheating on her, a freaking VS angel. He had us all fooled.
Look, the only 'positive' thing that came out of this is that it made many people reflect on the fact that cheating really had very little to do with the partner's physical appearance.

I feel bad because there’s nothing I can do, but someone I know had confided a few years ago that their partner was cheating.
They ended up staying together...and the guy has become a total “wife guy” the entire page is just full of her.

@@khjdkdjfkfjdk exactly. While Ryan can certainly be viewed as a "wife guy", he is more than that and he and his wife just enjoy their relationship. He is his own person and Blake is simply a "bonus" and someone who is an important part of his world.
Ned Fulmer on the other hand was just a married guy, with a great wife, that was all there was about him.

He has an actual personality. And a life. And a brand. He has a ton of personality traits, aspects of his life -- in fact for people who don't use twitter, there are probably plenty of people who know absolutely nothing about his wife at all, or if you just happen to watch more work focused interviews he might not mention her at all. Ryan can absolutely have a LOT of conversations without having to talk about his wife. And he does a ton of things without relying on her to make them happen or valid. I also have a ton of ways I would describe his personality that don't have anything to do with his being married.
Ned, on the other hand, that is kind of the whole point.... if you ask what is he known for? Being the Try guy who was married... and had a baby. What is his personality like? Um... married. What is his work and what are his goals like? Being a married guy with a kid. No but really dig super deep -- is he funny, charming, witty, liberal, a jerk, etc, etc... I don't know he just talks about his wife all the time. (Until this of course). Oh and he went to Yale... wah wah.

I think they feel resentful towards their wives and engaging in the emotionally abusive behaviour that is required to get away with cheating is their way of subjugating their wife and regaining the "dominant" position in the relationship (ie. I don't think the guy is evil or anything nor do I think that he never made a funny joke or contributed anything good to the Try Guys but at the end of the day he made being a family guy his brand and then ruined it by cheating on her and broke the trust of his family and business partners.
I think maybe the temptation to cheat is in lots of people despite gender. What a relationship should be has been rather twisted into something fairly unrealistic. When you're dating or married you two should be perfect together, eyes only on your partner and nobody else, we've all seen the extremes of people in relationships talking about how they don't want their parents having friends of the opposite gender, like any posts on social media or even looking in their very direction. An incredibly toxic mindset that I see happen with even people I personally know. It's unrealistic to expect someone to only be attracted to their partner, sexually or romantically. Many people will still find others attractive while in a relationship and the fact that's supposed to be seen as a negative trait has caused all this messiness in relationships. Me and my partners always talked about these things, finding someone else attractive or even if we thought we may be developing feelings for someone else all together. I was never afraid of my partner cheating on me because of this honesty and understanding of human emotions but so many people turn these natural feelings into such an ugly thing and high expectations causes more people to lie and cheat behind their partners back.

Some people pointed out that he cheated on his wife with an EMPLOYEE not a colleague. Colleague is an equal he is one of the owners. Additionally, NED FUNCTIONED AS HEAD OF HR. So like as bad as it is for a boss to have a relationship with his underling, now imagine if the person you need to report to for sexual harassment was the same person who sexually harassed you. Tbh I think Alex totally scoped him and saw the affair as a job opportunity and saw it as a thrill to make the wife guy her boy toy. But she can always claim sexual harassment and that's the issue.
There is no excuse for the pain and betrayal of cheating. However I firmly believe that when that persons relationship is their whole personality cheating might be inevitable because the relationship person eventually loses sight off themselves. Who they are, what they like and what their boundaries are get eclipsed due to being the relationship person and not their own person.
Nah. It's a pathological behavior of his, I think (as with most cheaters). It's implied in an episode of YCSWU that Ariel was someone Ned cheated on someone else with. When that's the case, take my advise and don't marry that person because they'll likely end up cheating on you (and from what I understand this may not have been the first time he cheated on Ariel).
I'm gonna be honest. I never liked Ned. I couldn't put my finger on why, but he just wasn't endearing to me the way the other guys were, so I never watched videos that focused on him.
Me too. I found him annoying, I didn’t like the I love my wife shtick. It didn’t seem genuine to me. Keith loves his with but he doesn’t go on about it and calls her Becky not my wife. I really like Ariel, I will miss see her. I cannot imagine the humiliation and heartbreak she feels, to be lied to for close to a year and this all being so public.

The majority of the time someone boasts about their so called great relationship on public forums, is actually having problems and heading for divorce.
