Once believed to be extinct in Cambodia, Cantor’s giant soft-shell turtle is finally recovering. To learn more, you can read on here: on.natgeo.com/2VpjiDy
Nat Geo WILD can you tell me what the difference between this turtle And Yanngtze Giant Soft shell Turtle ? That the recently the news new headline make the word feel confuse. Especially people in Cambodia and Philippine.
It's great to see a community getting down together working towards a noble act. Hope with this, the population will begin to thrive once more. Thanks NG
Thanos My grandma is Buddhist but we would grow animals like chickens from when they were babies and eat them when they grew up. I guess it was cause we gave them good food (watermelons and other good fruit), never hurt them in any way, took good care of them, & made sure to kill them in the most unharmful way.
Bravo, bravo! It's so good to see people getting aware of the need for preservation for all the other living species on our planet. Way to go, you guys...
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen a soft shell turtle. Awesome that the community came together to release this beautiful animal. Even the monks praying for them...very nice 👍🏼🐢❤️
@@tamapajamas It's endangered, not extincted. Extincted is where no are none of them left, like how the dinosuars went extinct. I think it is one of those cases where there's very few left but still enough to survive and breed in the wild. Sea turtles are endangered too, but their numbers have increased in thousands, not because we bred them, but because we protected their nesting areas and rescued them from nets and fishermen and stuff. So yeah, I think that releasing it might be a good idea.
Its so sad that the fishermen didn't just put it back in the water instead he sold it thinking it was going to used for meat ..thank god this guy who paid him. Did the right thing
We had one of this kind in Vietnam before. It was a historic symbol of my country. There was a time people cleaning the lake in the central of our capital just to save the turtle. The turtle died a few years ago, so sad. There are just a few of them spread across the world. Hope they are not extinct.
"Then it got eaten by NaTUrE later on". 😂😂 I think that part was made to be unseen. Just enjoy what you see on camera that they're showing to you please &thank u. 😂
@@elfase2181 Because they SOLD it to the owner of a RESTAURANT. A VERY RARE SPECIES. To probably be eaten, but LUCKILY the restaurant owner was a good person. If you are a guy who catches a very rare species, you should RELEASE IT or give it to a conservation center, not SELL FOR MONEY! If you try and sell it you should go to jail for assisting in the extinction of an animal.
I’ve seen some people here saying it got eaten by sharks or it wouldn’t survive with a soft shell blablabla.. Look, sharks aren’t even common here in the fresh waters of Cambodia, alligators or crocodiles would have more of a chance of eating it but sharks? No. It’s soft shell? This is a species of soft shell turtle, it has a soft shell by nature and it’s been like this for eons even before human settlements. So, if it is able to survive for eons then I’m sure it’ll be fine after it’s being released into the wild.
No u don't. Don't spread the lie. Yeah soft shell turtle habitat are in southeast Asia region. But the giant soft shell turtle is extremely rare and only found in some specific regions.
This is very cool! But I'm wondering why the one woman still collects the eggs, say says she doesn't eat them anymore but why not let them be? Do they hatch them? I'm confused by this part...?

Specially if it's a animal that needs it as much as this one
I know right we need these people as well help stop animal cruelty and stuff more supportive people like this
didnt know sofas are now used as a measuring unit!
Doctor told me I measured in at 1 and 1/7th small sofas and weighed in at 3/5ths of a refrigerator
Well, bananas have been used. I don't see why not sofas

Beautiful project. Lets all pray that many more species recover and get help from good people like in this community. Best for all.
The fearlessness of this species is their blessing and their curse

What if soft shell turtles feed a food that is rich in calcium? Will the shell stay soft?🤣🤣
They prayed over the turtle 🥺
so thankful for this video, especially when most of the other turtle videos involving eating then.
I love all the people, who are good to animals. Best wishes for all of them!
Bruh thats the turtle from the amazing world of gumball
I feel like the sound of animal logic+ deep look . Isn’t it !?
I'm caught one just as big on one of my videos. Donated it to the environmental center so children can look at it's size of a sea turtle.
So many people gathered to release a turtle , looks like rare sight of rare sight of releasing a turtle

The music made me think this was a deep look video, but I realise there was no Danielle
Royalty free, baby!
A really squishy turtle
This was so beautiful💙💙. 🐢 going back to live his life. Thank u everyone
More like going back to starving to death or dying of disease or being eaten. If it’s so extinct they probably should be breeding it.

Here in the Philippines we have plenty we can donate it to Cambodia if they want 😂

We just start conservation of Mekong turtle in cratie province ,cambodia
in the country of philippines that turtle is considered as a PEST

Did they arrest the fishermen who caught it? Not sure how releasing it into the wild is a good idea.
onepcwhiz It’s a rare species of turtle and releasing it into the wild will help the species reproduce and help its population grow!!
Why arrest the fisherman?...

Lol I'm sure a fisherman was watching.
There are many turtles like this living in the freshwater area of the Philippines.
1:11 why is there a random tortoise? It has almost nothing to do with the giant soft shell? He’s adorable though

How is it supposed to protect itself?

They likely hatch them to increase their survival rates. They do so with salt water turtle eggs.
Very good question! Nests are found to protect hatchlings. If you'd like to learn more, you can read on here: on.natgeo.com/2VpjiDy
