    Vivi, it was from watching you on Sean's channel, that I learned about growing celery. The past two years I bought my plants from a local nursery, and they are WONDERFUL and easy. This year, I am growing from seed, and I started mine in 4 cell containers and have not up potted them and they are growing great. I put two seeds into each cell, and they are doing great. Thank you for your inspiration with these, and the knowledge that they are swamp plants and need lots of water.

      Oh I'm so glad you decided to give them a go! Happy harvesting/munching.:-)

    No gardening today it's pouring rain here! Never have grown celery but you have convinced me I just purchased a seed packet of organic Utah celery. We have a long growing season here so I'm going to give it a go since I love celery and your videos.

    I also tried celery a few years back and started in little pots and waited forever and ever. I just went ahead and planted the tiny ones right in the ground, and after a few lost to slugs they sprung right up. Formed a dense celery forest. Loved it! They do taste so much better! All the veg in the stores taste like cardboard now. Anyhoo I managed to keep one plant alive for two years and saved my own seed to grow and use as a spice. Celery seed (as a spice) is sooooo expensive here.

      Way to go saving your own seed!!!!! I need to have more patience! ;-)

    hi ya Vivi !! great timing video, I'm growing celery for the first time and was worried when they didn't come up after a couple of weeks but if you say it take a good 5 weeks before pricking out so I'm more happy !! i remember watching Sean making a joke about the celery the first year you grow them on his video and i remember the smile on your face the second year you grow them.

    Hey Vivi Good on yer Girl. When I was in the same position as a Midwife I had a Spiritual Healer as I had Chronic Fatigue and Chronic pain as a result. She said to me "If you haven't got a body you haven't got a life" and that made me realise that I had to walk away from my career because of the level of stress. You probably do not realise that you're experience and how you're vocalising you're feelings go far beyond just you this is going to help so many people to manage their feelings in similar situations. Keep going these videos are just great on so many levels.

    Thanks for all the information on growing celery. I used to love celery as a girl, but don't have it much now because the shop bought celery is indeed not very good. Maybe I'll try to grow my own next year! :-)

    i'm a little sad vivi as you are right about lack of information for the in between time so i didn't try it. i am however rooting a store bought celery in water. i'm doing this just to try and get a better hang of how it actually grows and maybe try to grow from a packet of seeds next year.
    your video has made so much more sense so thank you very much for sharing this.
    as far as the leaves being cut off on shop bought, my mother would have me do the same thing. for years i thought it would make you sick if you ate them! makes me wish i had asked her why. have a great day vivi!👍

    Because yours were so wonderful, I tried celery last year from nursery starts. They were delicious but they attracted every slug in the area. Hoping to find starts again this year. Thank you for the germination tips, I will have to put them on the calendar for next growing season.

    Great video. So many plants! I was proud of myself for growing two last season. I used them as cut and come again...I'd just cut off a stalk or two when I needed it and let the plant continue to grow. A few weeks ago I stuck the bottom of a supermarket celery in the ground, and it seems to be growing. Curious to see what it will look like.

    Vivi I have a question? Since you're using the paper pots and the little baby plant are so delicate. Would it work if you just cut the bottom off the pots and plant paper and all? Since the paper is degradable. ✌🏼️❤️& Happy planting🌱🌱🌱

      @WhatVivididnext  7 лет назад +3

      I tried that with some of the celery in the second year.......but they just didn't get going compared with the ones I pricked out.......most peculiar...... Happy planting to you too. :-)

      What Vivi did next Okay...I was curios. I've never tried to grow it. Not sure if I've ever seen any seeds sold here in my neck of the woods. Thanks for the info.

  • @smilingheidi718
    @smilingheidi718 7 лет назад +1

    I found that when the soil is level with the top of the container and that wind (or hand held blower or use hands to rub tops) helped most types of seedlings to grow nicer and stronger. I did some studies after seeing someone's video when he was confused why one container grew faster than the other... the one where the seedlings got air movement did better.

    • @WhatVivididnext
      @WhatVivididnext  7 лет назад

      Interesting.........I do give the seedlings a gentle 'brush' across each day........glad I'm not the only one doing it. ;-)

    When transplanting pretty much everything (nevermind the delicate seedlings) I like to put on some music. Sarah Vaughan, Emmy-Lou or whatever your chilled out preference may be. I find it calms my nerves... 😕
    Thanks for the advice on celery. I've always bought the seedlings (along with celeriac & leeks) because, like yourself, I've not had success w/ seeds. I'm definitely going to try seeds next year! Yay!

    My problem was I left them too long before harvesting. Some stalks were tough and leaves were bitter so this year I have to watch it closer and harvest sooner. The flavor of stalks that were tender was delicious and the leaves were full of flavor!!

    • @WhatVivididnext
      @WhatVivididnext  7 лет назад

      Such a difference to the bland shop bought stuff eh? Happy harvesting. :-)

    I grew celery last year. The flavor was too strong for me. I didn't like it for salad but when the plants were big enough I just harvested them, chopped them up and froze them. They are the best for soups or roasted meat along with onions and carrots. Good luck this year!

    I have a question about the broad beans i am growing them after watching you eat some you made them look so good but i have never ate them soooo my plants are not standing up like your s do they look more like a hanging vine i know i got the right ones the pack said winsor broad beans and i have seen other video s where people had the same issue how do you keep your from falling over it did not look as tho you had them staked

    • @WhatVivididnext
      @WhatVivididnext  7 лет назад

      Most folk give them some support by way of stakes at each row end and then string along the length of the row.......I tie mine like this if we're getting bad winds. I think mine are stronger this year because they had that bit of protection from the mesh while they were getting established. :-)

    I bought seed in 2010 and have been trying every year since. This will be my last try. I have 11 seedlings so I've done better than before. It does freeze well for soup if you get too much.

    Another reason to let your water sit is that the chlorine will off-gas. And I see a slight drop in ph after my hard water sits out.

    Celery is difficult to grow in my location. What I found a few years ago is "Celery Krul"......oh my goodness, it 3 times the celery taste....it is herb, but grows very similar to standard celery (only to about 12" tall though--it does make thin/pencil size stalks,, but even the leaves are intense celery taste).....it is a perennial, and comes back beautifully each year.....if you have a sunny window, it will grow nicely through the winter, so you will have fresh celery in the dead of winter...anybody that has never tried this before, you HAVE to grow this..you will be hooked on it! Here is a link about celery krul....
