  • Here we have a selection of Airfix cars, that span the years (Mostly older toolings), that were built by our Club members.

Smashing to see these again. The cars were my favourite Airfix models when I was a lad in the 70s

    Thanks for the memories!
American viewer here. I built a lot of these 1/32nd scale Airfix kits when I was younger. Many of the kits shown in your video were made here under license by MPC and these could be found everywhere. But actual Airfix issues - boxed, bagged and carded - could only be found at dedicated hobby shops. In Grade School and Junior High, it was a real treat when I could get one. (As a matter of curiosity, have you ever built a model car kit from America with customizing or Hot Rod options?)
I have the Airfix 1911 Rolls Royce in my stash as a bagged kit, and I also have its American cousin produced by MPC. The MPC version comes with options to build either a "Stock Vintage 1911 Rolls Royce," or a custom, "Wild Drag" Hot Rod, with extra parts and decals; giving it a kind of "Munster Koach" appearance. The 1904 Darracq, 1905 Rolls Royce, 1907 Lanchester Landaulette, 1912 Model T Ford (with right hand drive,) and the 1926 Morris Cowley were also part of this series.
Nationally, Airfix had competition from domestic companies like Aurora and Pyro, who made a lot of 1/32nd scale kits of classic cars; most of which included engine detail.

Airfix only really produced 3 custom car kits. These were retooled versions of the Ford Cortina, Zodiac and the Capri. Some of the older toolings haven't seen the light of day for many years.
Airfix Is probably the most well known Brand in the UK. Looking at the demographics of the Airfix related videos on this Channel. The UK has the greatest viewership. I expect that other Brands are more popular in other Countries.

I have the Bond Bug in the stash (Who doesn't?). I wish (and I'm not alone) that Airfix would re-release the Morris Marina. I think that Airfix missed a trick here. They should've re-released it with an extra sprue for a piano, to coincide with Top Gear.
