To me, this is the powerhouse of the album. An enjoyable album, very consistent in theme and depth, but this song is the one that perfectly captures the flavor of the album - the conflicting lust, love, hatred, and fear of the loss of the person you thought was your soulmate. It's the voice of an adult trying to move on, fighting the voice of a child desperate for an excuse to stay. Outstanding.
Adkins and Linton are amazing composers and man do their voices sound great together. Thank the Lord those two kids met each other damn near thirty years ago out there in Mesa :)
Such a beautiful song. I'd expect nothing less from Jimmy Eat World. This song really hits home. The kind you only have to hear once and know exactly who its for. Sure Jim Adkins wrote it, but you look at your own life and know exactly who it's for. This is what music is supposed to be. Moving. From one heart to another. Something that can make you tear up yet heal you in the same way. Someone out there knows your emotions, maybe better than you do even. And he put it in a song to prove it.
"It was the peak of summer and I thought I'd drown. We couldn't get close, all the kids were around. But I could read you plain, you want a different life. Someday, hell, you might ruin mine." Damn.
It was a freezing night and not a single cloud I had a couple in me so I reached out And then I heard your voice Felt you all inside I prayed for the distance to keep us in line But there's things I've done you understand like no one else There's pain I kept buried deep inside myself I've been saying for forever "hey that's not me" But me with you is who I think I'll always be Please say no Please say no Please say no Please say no Say anything you will Except how you'd have me still Say anything but no And I'll go I'll go I'll go It was the peak of summer and I thought I'd drowned We couldn't get close All the kids were around But I could read you plain You want a different life Someday hell, you might ruin mine I've lately come to wonder what it might feel like If one last time we went and did this right And someone no one possibly could know our names Someone no one bothers to remember face Please say no Please say no Please say no Please say no no no no no Say anything you will Except how you'd have me still Say anything but no And I'll go I'll go I'll go With you With you With you If all you're really hoping for is peace of mind Don't come to me with questions, you'll just waste your time Exactly what you're looking for is what you'll find All I see around me is a losing bind Please say no Please say no Please say no Please say no no no no no Say anything you will Except how you'd have me still Say anything but no And I'll go I'll go I'll go And I'll go I'll go I'll go
this song is a beautiful tragedy....like a fking memory in my head that i can't remember but still can't shake..goose bumps/tears..awesome..Rock On Guys..
First time listening to the new album. This might be my favorite track. So true to their original sound. So much feeling in his voice still to this day and beautiful lyricist.
I love how it's easy to relate to JEW songs, but not in the fake way like some other bands. Where the words R so generic, that it could fit literally anybodies life. Like : " oh no. how could you do IT oh oh, I never saw IT coming. So please don't do some more STUFF you'll never see THIS through " Like you said with the Jimmy eat world songs, sometimes it only takes 1 good word, or line to know what it's about (for you) or who it's 4.

This pulls at my heart strings just like JEW always does. This is my #1 song from the album.
It was a freezing night and not a single cloud
I had a couple in me so I reached out
And then I heard your voice
Felt you all inside
I prayed for the distance to keep us in line
But there's things I've done you understand like no one else
There's pain I kept buried deep inside myself
I've been saying for forever "hey that's not me"
But me with you is who I think I'll always be
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no
Say anything you will
Except how you'd have me still
Say anything but no
And I'll go I'll go I'll go
It was the peak of summer and I thought I'd drowned
We couldn't get close
All the kids were around
But I could read you plain
You want a different life
Someday hell, you might ruin mine
I've lately come to wonder what it might feel like
If one last time we went and did this right
And someone no one possibly could know our names
Someone no one bothers to remember face
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no no no no no
Say anything you will
Except how you'd have me still
Say anything but no
And I'll go I'll go I'll go
With you
With you
With you
If all you're really hoping for is peace of mind
Don't come to me with questions, you'll just waste your time
Exactly what you're looking for is what you'll find
All I see around me is a losing bind
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no
Please say no no no no no
Say anything you will
Except how you'd have me still
Say anything but no
And I'll go I'll go I'll go
And I'll go I'll go I'll go
i love this song!!!!
I can't wait to hear this song performed live in concert ! It's such a pretty song with a feeling of melancholy longing.
this song is great it helps me get through lonely nights
Yep, I've just arrived to this stage of a messy breakup. I swear this whole album is a blueprint of emotions after love goes bad.
beautiful.
THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL
I hate that this song reminds me so much of someone yet I can't stop listening! Jimmy Eat World, thank you!
Carolina Zambrano Poxa, moça... D^;
Same here. I shouldn't miss her but can't stop thinking about her. I was mean to you, yet you still like me. You don't deserve me :'(

People thinks that Jimmy Eat World is The Middle, Bleed American and Pain. In fact, Jimmy Eat World is more like Hear You Me, Please Say No or 23.
My favorite song of the album.
Same here. Both songs are semi-similar in message. And both remind me of a certain past relationship. Sad.
Please saaaaay no.
Por que tan pocos comentarios
Team fabulous 2 brought me here
Heavy Scout and Spy brought me here instead.
I'm just confused about what the question is.
lol same! lol
I think he's asking if she wants to meet up, but he knows they really shouldn't. So he wants her to say no.
Atalanta I think the question is, are we done?
@@annaotto730 I think so too.
