I worked on Battlefield 1942 THOSE TRUMPETS I will never forget the team monitoring the server blades to see if we could surpass 32 players and maintain stability. What a time to be alive.
That's so rad! BF 1942 was a huge deal for me & my younger brother when he was still at home - we'd play each other over LAN whenever we had the time. :D I never got to experience a full server on multiplayer because of crappy internet, but LAN made it one of the most-played games in the house.
That's so cool. I cherish the memories of shooting airplanes out of the sky with destroyer's main cannons. Me and my mate taking turns repairing the boat, laughing ourselves a sixpack. Those were the days 🤣
That's pretty damn cool! Hope you're doing great now m8. The game was one of the most fun lan-games I've played. So nostalgic in all way shapes and forms. :)
One word description: Masterpiece. Every time I started battlefield I always watched the entire intro with this theme. Never once did I skip it. Made the game 1000 times better
It's been 20 years since I first heard this tune and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. (by the way, I graduated from a music school)
My god the memories are filling me up giving me all sorts of goosebumps. In my opinion the BF1942 intro was and still is the best game intro ever made music and video wise! Thx for giving me the trip down memory lane!
OH YES! THANK YOU JOEL :D i was waiting for this moment for 15 years now haha! By the way i'm actually a 3D student, and i will remake the full intro of BF 1942 with nowdays technologies and i would love to use this version of the song. :)
@Mynistrhell That’s awesome! I’ll be looking out for that video when you make it :D I’m currently planning to remake the original reveal trailer. Maybe if you have some extra time you could help out?
I have been chronically online since the late 90s. I never post or comment, i was always a lurker. I could probably list the exceptions on my 10 fingers and this is one of them. I was a child when i first heard this piece, I did not even like the game but found myself replaying the intro over and over. Truly a masterpiece. Its got me into reading up on history a lot (strange, right?) and, well, that interest built my character more than the educational system ever did. After all, any reason a child picks up a book these days is worth its weight in gold. I could not thank you enough. I am very glad you decided to revisit and recreate this piece, but I will be 100% honest and say I like the original more. However, my favorite rendition of your piece is by the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra. Audio engineering, editing and such has come a long way, but real is real, and you just cant beat the sound of an orchestra. I hope you enjoy the recognition you are getting all these years later, it is well deserved. I saw one comment where you mentioned someone telling you that a composers life truly starts at 40. I would love to see you take the base work, rewrite and extend it, and get an orchestra to perform it. A well paced, 10-15 minute piece performed by an orchestra is something this world really needs. I hope you consider it, it would not be easy, but greatness never is. Push the envelope, embrace the epic and who knows, maybe you can be the next Hans Zimmer. (maybe haha) Mind blown that you created this at 22. Raw talent.
Nice, that part around 1:31 always felt slightly off beat in the original intro, here it's perfect. After all those years this still gives me goosebumps. True classic.
1942, played the Wake Island demo on the LAN for a whole weekend. With four players. After that (partly) EAS, NGL, Gamestar League and BF2. How I just see myself in the inner eye. Home from school, BF1942 training. And bad grades in school. Jo, and now I'm approaching 40. This song just belongs to me! Thanks, Joel! - Greetings from Germany, don! suYin :)
Hello and thank you for this piece of music! Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 with their numerous mods were the best entertainment on dark autumn/winter nights here in Nordics! There are many great remixes around the internet, but this is simply the best. When it comes to mods, Point of Existence 1 and 2 had very great soundtracks too.
Sir, I'm ready to go, Sir! I'm a historian by education and a gamer by choice. Whenever I listen to this legendary theme, I'm having visions of all heroic battles and acts. Thank you, Joel, for all the memories.
I honestly love battlefield 1942, 1943 and BFV themes so much. I remember hearing the bf5 theme couple of years back and when I started playing the game along with hearing the theme randomly in a match, oh my lord I was so happy at the time. Thank you Joel.
Thanks a lot Joel for taking the time, I have been listening to the old theme a lot throughout the years because theres no other version that can match the original IMO, and this just made it a lot better!
@@Joel_Eriksson_aka_JOL To compose such iconic theme at 22, you must have great talent. Keep up the good work. I hope you will get more recognition in the years to come.

I'd like to know if you still composing for Video games or other things, for me this theme is the ID for the franchise, i have great memories in this game and this theme when played OH GOD!! i'm fighting in World War. My question is what's inspired you to make this piece. Big love you are one of my favorite compoeser ❤❤
Hi Claire! I compose and sound design small game projects for a living but don’t show much publicly. I always put passion in whatever I compose. Looking for to find an edge, to not make it generic. I try focus on music before sounds, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the words. For the BF I tried to make it adventurous rather than brutal war-ish style. I’d love to compose for some new AAA game giving it my best writing, but those opportunities, a bit strangely, seem to evade me.
This will always be the definitive Battlefield theme. I know that most sources will play the more straightforward Battlefield 1942 version when you ask for "the battlefield 1942 theme," but this more jumpy syncopation always sticks with me, plus the building of tension with the opening
This brings back memories. Not quite of 1942 as i was born a tad too late to play that, but Battlefield 2? Hell to the yeah, and this theme has stuck with me through everything.
Once upon a time when Battlefield was majestic, and made by passionate people.. EA should had remastered it, along with Battlefield 2. Instead all we've got is that 2042 abomination.. Oh well.. At least i can still hear best the OST's ever created. Nothing but respect Sir Joel.
Watching Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales and hearing the theme song, slightly wondering if that composer also made the theme to BF1042. Of course I was wrong, but to me they sound pretty similar. Kudos to you, Joel. Love this theme and brings back a lot of good gaming memories.
Thank you these re-recordings, Joel! This is one of the most iconic video game themes of all time, and it was all thanks to you. 21 years later I still listen to this theme and to different takes on it over the years. :)
Im crying .... This is too good.... 20 years ago, I got to play 1942 and the music instantly hooked me. Then I got interested into world war 2, WW 1, cold war. And then I became so interested in history. What a journey. Thank you for this awesome remaster!
The memories of simpler and more fun times is enough bring tears to ones eyes, and I was there 20 years ago when it all began...In the years since and across the ages depicted in the games I have battled it out both alongside and against many others like myself who enjoy the sights, sounds, and stories of each title played. I can say with much confidence that not before and never since has a franchise other than Battlefield delivered such consecutively great musical scores to accompany the gameplay it offers.
Sounds so awesome... 1942 Theme is the best soundtrack i ever heard in my live. I got still goosebumps when i hear it. Forget John Williams, you should do the music for the next Star Wars movies!!!
I miss the days when me and my dad would hop on bf1942 and play on wake island. thank you for remastering this classic track, it brings me lots of bittersweet memories.
In my head I can visualize every scene of that amazing intro to the game with your incredible soundtrack. So great to hear the original composer reorchestrate one of the most incredibly iconic songs of the 21st century!
ABSOLUTELY stellar, just like your version from 2021! Experienced serious frisson from that intro, so badass. Excuse me while I pick my jaw up from the floor.
Made me tear up, I didn't knew the battlefield could be made more beautiful then the original one, what a master piece! Thank you for bringing me joy my troubled youth
I like how dynamic this track is. It's like a journey. Transitions really well. Best version of the theme in my opinion and better than the static version that played during the loading. I also like the "Slaughter" track that you composed for the menu of the game. It's cool with the "James Bond" chord progression going on and the almost rock-like riff played by the brass.
This is absolutely perfect. The only one who understands the feel of the original. Question, did you use the moog for this track? id love to hear a solo with t like in the EP01 at the end
Any plans to revisit Slaughter IV? There have been so many re-orchestrations and remixes of the main theme, but as far as I have seen, nobody has really bothered to give that good ol' main menu theme a crack.
I really like this BF1942 remakes from you, and I'm curious to get the 2023 version. But I think a harder and stronger brass would go better in this version brass sounds very soft against the other instruments. But i still enjoy listening to it everyday :)
Great! Bringing back good memories about classic battlefield! Many hours has spent in that game. I think you can add good original video intro in you soundtrack...

The greatest game theme ever made. Period.
It makes me kinda sad considering the current state of The Battlefield franchise.
Yeah nothing will ever be the same. 2046 is a joke. Late 90s to early 2000s was the time to be into gaming. Greed has destroyed gaming forever..
my favorite music ever (im not even old enough to play the game but im allowed to XD)
@@mr_mickals5657 Gaming is still good now, but not on a larger scale.
How is this comment relate with the song Lol
So you hate the current state of the franchise but not appreciate Joel's work?
Since Battlefield is officialy dead. I feel like they should play this at the funeral.
