I finally received my Xtone Pro and the sound quality is great, BUT, I have to mention something about the switches and MIDI implementation for anyone wanting it to use it for more serious MIDI control: there's a BIG issue in that the switches send MIDI commands only on "release" of the switch and not on the "pressing" of them (I confirmed this with a MIDI monitor utility that shows you the exact timestamps and all details of the MIDI messages: MIDI-OX on PC and MIDI Check on iOS) this creates extra latency and it's useless to assign it to loopers or anything that requires precise MIDI control, The manual details how to access several MIDI modes (latching, momentary and toggle) plus the 3 banks for a total of 18 switches plus 3 different continuos control for expression pedal per bank... Audio is great but the switches issue makes it unusable for precise MIDI control, even the IK multimedia Blueboard is better for that: on the BlueBoard it correctly registers a MIDI command on "Pressing" and another one on "Releasing" the switch (as most MIDI controllers do!) and as I said, the Xtone pro "momentary" mode (mode 2) has an error as it sends 0 and 127 at the SAME time rendering useless the momentary mode!, the switches should be sending MIDI data BOTH on pressing them and also on release but the customer support says "that's is not a bug, it´s a feature" as they say "they programmed it that way as the Xtone access the different mode changes via long press of the switches and they don't want it to send a MIDI command on the "press" as it'd send MIDI data while changing modes"... Also, the continuos control does not fully send 0-127 as it skips every 6-7 steps, so if you see it on a MIDI monitor you'll see going in values of "0-7-14-21-28-35" etc instead of "0-1-2-3-4-5" and so on, this creates a "stepped" effect if you assign it to a volume control or something that requires fine continuos values as you'll hear the values "jumping" instead of a smooth transition from 0 to 127... I've had it for 3 days and it's been 2 times where it also stops sending MIDI messages at all, audio keeps passing but no MDI internally or externally, have to reboot it many times in order to get it to work again, it's NOT reliable at ALL!.... Hope that info is valuable for anyone wanting to use this for precise MIDI control as it does not work correctly for that
I’m not as technical with midi and didn’t realize that other people would have issues with these things. It has been great for the things I use it for but I have been recommending this product so I’m glad you commented so people can see these things you’re pointing out. Do you know of a blog post or RUclips video that could help me understand these issues better?
@@JoelDodge Thanks, if you find it useful I hope you can pin my comment for others to see more easily, I wish I had seen a similar post before buying it as returning it all the way to China is more expensive, so I better sell it locally here in Spain, the unit works fine for most users, it's only when someone wants to use it for more precise control that you find those issues, as for MIDI tutorials, I think there are several advanced MIDI tutorials here on youtube but whenever I post a link youtube deletes my comments, maybe their BOT flags them as spam, I have been using MIDI since the mid-90's so I learned all the fundamentals long time ago but I guess it's more easy to find tutorials now, I think that since most MIDI is nowadays used via USB or automation in DAW is easier to use without actually programming anything
@@JoelDodge Thanks mate, don't worry, They already answered me and confirmed what I said above but they said "those are not bugs, it's the way we designed it"... so I guess I better use another MDI controller and audio interface

Thanks for doing a review on Xtone Pro. It is a great device and I got it a week ago! Looking forward to see more tutorials videos on xtone pro in the future!!!
I love using AUM! To me it feels a lot like building a real rig in iOS and be able to combine my favorite amp and fx plugins and get the best of all apps and experiment with crazy routngs. Especially when ising the Nembrini plugins AUM is my go-to app to set up my chain. Great video brother. The XTONE PRO looks like some fantastic hardware and a real versarile tool. Top notch demo/review Jeol 🤘😎👍
Hi Joel, awesome videos, I kinda stumbled upon your video when I was looking for guides and content on how to use AUM plus Guitar effects/amp and cab sims. May I ask if you have guides or a video on how to map patches in AUM and other AUV3 apps with midi controller? Planning to mix and match nembrini cabs and effects with other AUV3 apps like Tonestack Pro in creating guitar rigs for live sessions! Thank you!
Great video. Starting using a similar setup a few months back. I run Bias FX 2 in AUM along with TB Reverb and Alteza. Love the options this opens up. I also use Roxsyn by Yonac, this turns my guitar in synth inside AUM and can be really cool to play with.
Hi. Great vid, as usual. I also use xtone pro for Bias fx-2 on iPad. The thing is. I tweak my tone with headphone (via HP jack on xtone), but when I send the signal to PA via Line Out jack. The tone come from PA Speakers is so different comparing to the tone from my Headphone, so much thinner I could say. Question is, what did I do wrong? Is there possibility the actual tone come out from HP jack is different? Or it might due to headphone and PA Speaker character is self? ( anyway, I use "studio headphone" for tweaking, it is a cheap one tho :D) Any suggestion? Have you use bias fx on iPad on live situation? Could you share your setup? Thx in advance. My apology if it is already discussed in other comment / other video.
Can I for instance load a nembrini amp & then have bias fx 2 later in the chain? Is there anyway to have my nembrini pedals & bias fx pedals all show up on one screen so I don’t have to come in and out of menu’s etc? Also, is there any forum’s where people have shared their virtual pedal boards that include different brands chained together? 😊
Well I know your busy and all but I hope someday you return. In the meantime I am going through this lesson for Xtone pro although I only have the 3 button version, if it works well I may get another pro very. See you some time 🤓
@@JoelDodge LOL well, this is a must! Sir, I hope you don't abandon the BIAS stuff. It's been super helpful (and I don't see a Helix or Quad Cortex in my near or far - not even my imaginary future lol
@@droidfan I feel you those are really expensive lol. I’ve been trying out overload th-u and the nembrini guitar apps lately so I’ll be making some videos comparing those to bias but I don’t plan to stop using ios for my guitar fx.
In this video I was only using nembrini apps for all the guitar fx. I was using the dc30 (vox) for the cleans and the Mrh159 (brown sound) with the dc30 for the lead. I wasn’t looping it I was actually recording everything into cubasis. AUM will do a loop though
I just want to know how to record my mic and guitar together on separate tracks (in AUM)and I'm getting frustrated with AUM and my very very basic knowledge of iOS and music setup I know I'm close to figuring it out but I haven't yet.
It’s been a long time since I made this but it’s definitely mixbox the only other thing I would have used is waves tune and eos 2 reverb but I might have just used the reverbs in mixbox
Id love to see a more ellaborate breakdown. Can I only add effects for pedals I own etc. Does it have effects that come with the app? At this stage as a gitarist only not a singer I cnnot see the benefit. I did love the sound at the start though. I also play drums and am going to use the mic output for some sounds I want to produce on my drums like way makers tambopurine sound at the start. At the moment I am eqing that from the desk which is not ideal. so potentially I could use it for that but thats something I could easily do from the other apps. From this video I didnt see the benefit over other apps apart from seperating out the mic input
I’ll definitely make one in the future, but AUM is an audio mixer app allows you to open audio until apps like bias (or any other instrument or effects apps). Also input and out audio for whatever source you want. It makes almost any possible combination of apps possible even sending audio from one daw to another. Like in this video I sent 3 separate audio tracks to individual tracks in cubasis and that’s how I got the audio for the demo.
Hi can u tell me one thing ,does the xtone offer diff midi channels eg, if I want to control aum with channel 1 and loopy pro with channel 3 Chan it be done ?
Hi, i dont have xtone pro but mp100 anyway, is possible in aum quckli change chanels? I mean ch 1 is tonex ch2 is vias fx, problem is i musst switch ch 2 mutten, i push mute and i push other ch, but i will only 1 button, is that possible? Thanx
Has anyone faced any issues with the XLR output for mic? I have a dynamic mic connected ->XLR IN -> XTONE -> iPAD -> AUM (with no effects)-> XTONE -> XLR Out -> Fender Acoustic Amp. There is horrible noise floor (with the ground switch on or off) which doesn't occur when using the 1/4" outputs. I have ruled out the amp or the cable by comparing the setup with a scarlett 2i2 and 2i4.
