I think that one of the terms that best describes Ambient music is "atmosphere". Every track has an atmosphere or a leading mood, but Ambient music especially makes spatial and textural qualities their centerpiece. It is akin to an abstract painting-the juxtaposition of long, drawn-out synths like gradients and lyrical swathes of highlights and undertones.
This deserves more views
It is INCREDIBLE hard to get groupies as an classical ambient musician. Believe me!
This is the music the I create.
This is the music that I love :)
I'm very glad that I found this channel. I wish you speedy prosperity!
I came to this video because I'm trying to understand the music I'm making. I thought it could be considered New Age or Easy-Listening. But now that I've heard the way you explained the principles and theory behind Ambient, I'm much more interested in exploring this genre. Very interesting and well-made video. Thank you.
I don't think 4'33 is the best thing to show to someone who is unfamiliar with ambient. It's not a good introduction and more performance art than music.
thank you for such structured and useful video! i’m pleased and ready to dive into ambient :)
There's a lot of great covers of 4:33
I tried playing it but it's too complicated.
Hardwave and Chillstep were my first moves into learning about this Genre. Been life-altering to say the least!
👍
great video
What is the song at 2:40 when talking about Japanese ambient?
I believe it's part of the Last Samurai soundtrack actually
Amazing explanation but I'll push back on one thing. Being a listener of Ambient music for thirty years the essence of Ambient is the transportation into a space with that space evoking an emotion. And since Ambient has no rules when it comes to instrumentation only its primary goal being as mentioned in my humble eyes Drill, Downtempo, Chillout while having more recognizable/defined structure (like a cafe instead of a landscape) it most definately falls into the Ambient space being of only semantic differences. Listening to Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada for instance you'll quickly understand these pointless seperations (it's understandable given the human need to make sense of things through categorizations).
Could you perhaps cover the new age genre? It’s a very interesting yet unfamiliar genre of music that no one really knows about
