Better help is a scam and the advice you gave is super unhealthy. You should not be suppressing emotion like that, anger is not bad nor is hate. Hate is the natural reflex a person has to protect something they love by any and all means including but not limited to violence or destruction. Tolerance is a persons ability to ignore something that is bad and is not good for you either. You need to stop embracing your weakness.
What I'm also thinking about is why didn't they just say hermione was is the bathroom and didn't know and ron and harry came too tell her or save her that would just loose no points right?
Hermione modified her parents memories, not erased them. A modified memory can be reversed to normal, an erased memory cannot be retrieved.
So the movie is wrong, she didn’t used obliviate on her parents.

@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 Well, I'd imagine that Obliviate is an incredibly dangerous spell. We've only actually seen it cast on-page one time and we all know what the result of that was, just total amnesia. We have no precedent for erasing just specific memories so we have no way of knowing if that much is even possible.
@@TheKabuto90 Hermione uses obliviate on Dolohov when the trio is attacked by two Deatheaters in a cafe in London. Later it seems that Dolohov is quite well.
Lockhart uses obliviate on the wizards whom he steels the stories and they are not suffering of total amnesia. He forgets everything because it was his intent for Ron and Harry.
I think Slughorn didn’t erase his memory because he knows it is a precious one, even if he doesn’t like what it shows of him.

Yeah, I feel like it really is a big stretch just to support Harmione. I'm pretty sure not all scents in Amortentia has to be related to your romantic attraction. I mean, new parchment could be related to both Ron and Harry, but mostly it's about something she enjoys HERSELF. Also, how long is Harry supposed to smell like FRESHLY MONW grass after mowing it during the summer holidays?
I always thought this was a "mown grass is done during summer, during summer she's at home with her parents, whom she love"
On the contrary, I think the Weasleys definitely own at least one if not several lawn mowers (have you MET Arthur??), and making one of her boys mow the lawn without magic seems like exactly the type of chore Molly would use as a punishment.
And not the gas ones, the old push bladed ones. But I always interpreted her like for the smell as being something she smells at the Weaseley's (along with Harry's floral scent that he smells there too). But honestly freshly mown grass is a fantastic smell, it's almost like a cilantro smell to me and always evokes freshness.
Honestly I think the smell of love potions may change ovetime for the person smelling it, as we grow and experience new moments of love. Hermione likely smells grass because of her childhood (living in a well of suburb area, so a love of home), Parchment (from the library, for her love of learning), and spearmint (representing her love of her parents). These are likely what makes Amortentia so powerful, in my opinion. Your greatest moments of love are being reflected at your mind and befuddling your senses, making you feel those powerful sensations all at once with so many types of love. It's why it doesn't make real love, only an obsessive sort. The person using it will never create their own actual moment of love to make a smell attach to such a powerful memory, so it fades when the user stops dosing their chosen love interest.

4:02 I've always interpreted this specific point as Obliviating Charms being different from Memory Altering Charms. As in, Obliviate erases one's memory, while what Hermione did to her parents merely "camouflages memories", leaving false memories in their stead. Of course, I could be totally wrong but it's the only way I can think of to solve what would be a plothole otherwise.

@@originof_yt Well, I guess it's a possibility, but Confundus feels more like it just makes people dumb and confused, not something able to completely rewrite their memories with a completely new backstory and personality.
This is exactly what happened. Although we know that the Obliviating charm also does not erase memories(Voldemort could make them resurface),but the Memory Altering charm is a lighter version of that. It's implied, heck straight up said by Hermione that if she survives, she will restore their memories. She doesnt say it will be complicated or anything.
But regardless "modyfing" and "deleting" memories were always different things. We know the spell for the "memory deleter" charm which is "Obliviate" we dont know the other one(hence why Hermione said she didn't do the "delete" charm before)
@@d22777 My point exactly. And yes, Obliviate is Memory Deleting-ish, since severe trauma can un-delete said memories. Its more like a Memory Blocker charm, burying them so deep in your subconscious that only very severe trauma may cause them so ressurface.
Of course, that could mean that the plot hole is real and Hermione did in fact erase her parents' memories, which in turn means that her solution to restoring their memories is prolonged severe torture. Which I dunno, but doesn't sound like Hermione at all...
@@nerdragon2649 no it's clearly different. Like the obliviating charm is delete-ish(and can only be restored with difficulty. For example stuff deleted from a hard drive can be restored only with skill and time.
But if you put stuff into a hidden folder, that's just a click of a button to restore. And we saw how a badly(superficially modified memory looks like with Slughorn. My guess is that her parents' memories would be similar that's why she sent them to Australia.
She said that it will be easy to restore them.

If I recall correctly, what ever that lawnmower did, it was NOT mowing grass... Unless mowing grass using muggle metods, is so embarrassing for wizards, that Ludo Bagman just had to pay 9 (iirc) luxury tickets for the world cup to hide the embarrassment his brother Otto cost the family for using muggle methods.

When would Hermione have ever smelled Harry after he’d mown the lawn? How would she even know he mows the lawn? The mown grass is obviously a reference to her hanging out with Ron at the Burrow before school started.

I always assumed she lied so that only she'd be punished with loss of house points, while they'd loose dubble the amount if Harry and Ron were the guilty ones. Felt like a clever Hermione-thing to do, but now I'm not so sure.
Hermoine could have told the truth about the troll. It would have still extolled the boy's bravery.

She didn't want them to get in trouble for insulting her and making her cry in the bathroom, because they saved her. It was repaying them for saving her life, not letting them (Ron mostly) get in trouble for bullying (or behind the back name-calling).
Hermione is a bit judgmental of Fleur, so mocking her is definitely in character lol. She constantly comments on Fleur’s complaints. Like when Fleur said she wouldn’t fit into her dress robes because of how heavy the Hogwarts food was, Hermione sarcastically says “Ooh there’s a tragedy”. And later on she and Ginny complain about Fleur being full of herself.

Hermione is insecure even when she scores great in school.
Harry, with all the dark things happening around him ALL THE TIME doesn't give her any sort of security. She loves him for sure because she respects the incredible courage Harry shows and how great his abilities are.
Ron on the other hand has the same courage but none of the indecisiveness nor does he attracts dark wizards left right and centre. Ron is also pretty shallow and will generally just do as he's told by his loved ones so he'll make a great husband.
Harry needed someone who's strong and can be an equal partner emotionally. Ginny can take care of herself in a fight and she's had a crush on Harry since before the meeting at Platform 9 3/4. She is also willing to accept all the dark things since she was part of Tom Riddle's plan in Chambers of Secret. It's too bad Ginny wasn't given much screen time in the movies so I'm starting to read the books.
Viktor is like a toyboy or celebrity football star. Hermione like smart guys. Haven't read the books, dunno if Viktor is smart, don't cast Crucio on me!

I'm sorry, but I feel like calling Ron and Hermione's jealousy game "toxic" is a bit of an overkill. It's not super healthy, but it's really not that bad, considering considering their relationship overall. And the fact they're teenagers.
I prefer Hermione and Ron. When Harry is off doing something by himself, they are spending time together. In the books, Ron is not as useless and Hermione recognizes this and they respect each other's different skills, but still are able to joke with each other.
I know right!! I think about that all the time.
And they had lots of time for a friendship to grow into more when getting to know each other without Harry as a third wheel because of his entrapment at the Dursley's each summer that Hermione is there ❤

Cinema Therapy addressed this. From the info they provided, that is no longer the case. Better Help complied to everything requested and helped adjust laws and policies regarding the protection of personal information and are helping that change be implemented in other health companies, as well. From what the guys on Cinema Therapy said, Better Help didn't do anything illegal and were totally compliant in helping everything be made right for any alleged accusations. I don't know the details, myself, but last I knew this was the case. 🤷♀️
4:15. Hermione probably uses the confundus charm on her parents, not obliviate. It seems that obliviate (the memory charm) erases memories but it doesn’t create new ones. the only spell we see that creates new false memories and removes memories is the confundus charm. Snape uses it on Mundungus to make him think the 7 Potters plan was his idea and to forget that he ran into Snape.
@SuperCarlinBrothers I'm pretty sure the reason Hermione says "ze Grindelows" is because that is what exactly what Fleur says in the book:
"Fleur had broken free of Madame Maxime and was hugging her sister.
'It was ze Grindelows ... zey attacked me ... oh, Gabrielle, I thought ... I thought...' "
I assume in the movie since they had Hermione deliver the line instead of Fleur, she was directly quoting her (or making fun or her accent maybe).
Maybe the freshly mown grass had to do with the quidditch pitch.... like Harry and most of the Weasley kids [including Ron] were on the Gryffindor team...Also Arthur loves muggle stuff...
Honestly, I ALWAYS!!! believed Ron and Hermonie were perfect for each other. They were just too stubborn to realize it tell book seven.
I have an interesting what if idea: What if Mundungus had been killed instead of Moody during the Battle of the Seven Potters?
I mean, Mundungus looked liked Harry, due to the Polyjuiice potion, and it was mundungus fleeing that got Mad Eye off his guard and left him open to attack.
Now, it's possible that Mad Eye might find his way to Grimmauld Place, just like Lupin did. However, the issue is, with Mundungus dead, Harry would have trouble tracking down the locket. On the other hand, and this would be a more major change, now without Yaxley being taken to Grimmauld Place, Harry, Ron, and Hermoine may have kept using it as a hideout for longer. Not sure how much longer, but perhaps a while. And if they didn't happen to have been where Dean Thomas, Ted Tonks,a nd the goblings were, they wouldn't have realized the important information about the sword, and also, that fight with Ron may not have happened. Plus, it was the malovenlt influence of the Horcrux that was influencing Ron that brought it out of him. But they wouldn't have it here.
Still, without the information about the sword, it's possible that Ron and Hermoine said no about Godrich's Hollow. And, if so, then Harry didn't break his wand.

Awesome video as always! So what I always wondered with the Time Turner situation (that I'm sure many people have also thought of before) is why didn't Hermione also use the Time Turner to GET ENOUGH SLEEP?! Like surely Professor McGonagall would say that falls within the rules so then Hermione isn't getting so emotionally and physically exhausted from all the extra classes and work that she falls asleep in her normal classes and even the broom closet? (which is precisely what happened). And I would get the idea that she can't run into herself but she could wake up first thing in the morning then rotate the time turner back several hours and just find a secluded spot in the castle where no one goes at night and take a sleeping bag with her and that way she doesn't run into herself in the dorm. Is it ever explained why she doesn't use the Time Turner to get enough sleep? Okay sorry for the long ramble, again, amazing video as usual :D.

I honestly get so tired of the Ron and Ginny hate from the Fandom. Hermione smelling the grass and the toothpaste makes perfect sense because they literally talked about it in the books when she was at Ron's place. Those two moments were purposely highlighted in the books. Also, in the books, Ron and Ginny were awesome and very complex. Ginny was perfect for Harry, and Ron was perfect for Hermione. Now none of them were perfect people, because nobody is perfect, but they complemented each other in the perfect way. The movies just RUINED the characters because they didn't believe in people's abilities to understand complexity, so they made Ron and Hermione as basic and annoying as possible, and practically made Ginny nonexistent until the end of the movies. Also, HARRY'S LOVE FOR HERMIONE WAS AS A FRIEND! The same as with Lily towards Snape. People romanticize friendships and make it really weird. Please stop. When we do this, we just enforce this negative societal stereotype that girls and guys can't just be good friends. That's why Snape and Lily's friendship went so badly. He kept taking friendship as something completely different from what it actually was, then got offensively angry when the situation didn't go the way he wanted. He was so angry that she married James Potter that he was willing to let this woman's husband AND ONE YEAR OLD CHILD die just so he could have a chance with her!🤢🤮
I'm sorry I can only give you one like. When I read the very first book - before the movies even came out - it was obvious that Harry and Ginny would wind up together. Ginny had a crush on Harry from the beginning, and the way it was described in the books was pretty obvious foreshadowing.
And Ron and Hermione acted toward each other like an old married couple from the beginning as well.
This is such a great point. I only have to disagree about Snape. He truly loved Lilly in a Romantic way. He definitely takes it badly when she doesn't return, but there's a lot more to then just reading too much into a friendship.

Hermione didn't solve the mystery of the chamber of secrets before Ginny steals the diary back from Harry, nor that would have made any sense. She figures it out and is immediately petrified, Ginny had already stolen the diary days before and was now writing on it again, hence the attack on Hermione even being able to happen.

#1 Rule of Interacting With Hermione Jean Granger… DO NOT make Hermione angry. It won’t end well.
You wouldn't like her when she's angry.
Hermione is actually very bad when it comes to controlling her anger. She barely tries to de-escalate, is sarcastic and insulting and hold grudges much longer than Ron or Harry. You can already see this in Book 3, where she utterly refuses the possibility of thinking she could be wrong (another frequent trait of her) to the point where she risked the friendship with Ron.
This is why i like Book Hermione waaay more than her movie adaptation, where she was basically made a Mary Sue. In the books she has flaws and is wrong many times like every real human being, which is also highlighting how she needs a relationship with a guy like Ron who actually stands up against her when she is wrong. Almost all other people she interacts with just reinforce her self-image of the "clever girl who is never wrong" (especially teachers, where she really does shine with her knowledge), but with this attitude you can't grow as a person.
Ron grounds her. Harry for example barely does that, usually he just quietly retreats when there is a conflict between him and her - like when they argue about the Deathly Hallows. Or he even just agrees because he is too tired to argue, even when he has more arguments over her (like just knowing that there is a Horkrux in Hogwarts thanks to his understanding and connection of Voldemort, and Hermione just keeps dismissing it).

The scent was brought up because Hermione was raised muggle so she would know the scent of mowed grass and since Harry was also raised muggle he would have the scent. Plus maybe they have crossed paths that isn't stated in the books or movies

⚠️Off topic from video day two of asking⚠️
Here are the what ifs I think need to happen.
1: What if Dudley went to Hogwarts?
2: What if Aang died and one of the other characters became the avatar? I think the most interesting would be Zuko or Sokka.
3: What if Prim became the Mockingjay? The only way I see this happening is if Katniss gets caught hunting and either gets killed or sent to the Capital to become an avox a year or two before she gets reaped and has to get survival skills not as good as Katniss but better than nothing.
Read somewhere that the girls in school make fun of Luna and call her “Looney Love Good” and apparently Hermione be right there with em akekekeing so she just had a freudian slip in the carriage which surprised even her.

@@bytheallspark2 Yes, it's a predatory business. The so called licensed therapists are not licensed at all. (In the terms and conditions it says betterhelp does not verify whether they are or aren't). They also try to keep you in a payment plan as long as possible, making it very hard to get out of, by using nefarious tactics. They also harvest and sell your data to other company's (All meta data of your message, times of therapy sessions, etc etc)
All around bad business.
It's pretty sad that they keep pretending that they use the service themselves, because it's clearly not true. THey should just find another sponsor

@@bytheallspark2there have been some bad cases reported about BetterHelp and some of the therapists on the service acting unethically and creating a very unsafe environment. They do not undergo a nearly strict enough vetting process and consequently some creeps/dangerous people slip through. By and large, this is not the case for most therapists or users of the service, but there are bad apples that slip through which are concerning and need to be addressed.
On the topic of stopping sponsorships from them, I don’t think it’s quite that easy as just stopping ad reads from them. SCB did ads for them for years before the controversies started gaining attention. I would not be surprised at all if they are under contract with them for a certain amount of ad placements in their videos (very common practice with advertisers). For them to just break that contract would open them up to get sued and have to undergo a lengthy, expensive legal battle that can put them in dire straits financially. SCB definitely has the community’s safety in mind and cares about choosing who to support and who not to. Legalities and financial matters unfortunately complicates things. I fully understand why they still run the ads, but I wish they didn’t have to. If I was to place myself in their shoes I’d likely make the same decision though. The bad cases are truly despicable and should not happen in the first place, but the company shouldn’t be cancelled in my personal opinion. The cases are few and far between and in general people have a good experience with the service. The community should hold BetterHelp accountable and make their voices be heard though. Without that, the company will have free reign to continue half-assing their recruitment process.

On the point of Hermione and Viktor Krum I’ll never understand how people have never talked about how creepy that relationship really is. She’s 14 (maybe 15 cuz she’s older than the boys) and Viktor is what?? Maybe 18 at youngest. They’re basically the equivalent of a freshman dating a senior in American schools and I’ll never let go how creepy that is and nobody ever seems to point that out.
I don't think so. At 18 you still a half child, no matter if you are legally an adult (in the real world), your adult life just started. In many nations there are even still age restrictions for certain things to the age of 20 or 21 because of that. At the same time Hermione is very mature for her age and Krum never behaved inappropriately towards her (or any other person as far as we know). If he was already 20+, then i would agree. But calling it "creepy" is a bit harsh, especially considering what a shy dork Krum actually is towards her. Not every Teenager develops at the same speed, this is why imho it's not justified to just dogmatically count the years of age difference between teens and then judge it, without considering any other factor whatsoever.

Since Hermione used a time turner and was already older then the boys she is surely beyond 15. -Also at the time the movie came out 15 was the concense age in my country. But even if you go by US standarts. In the 90s movie "What women want" the 15 year old daughter of the protagonist ahs a relationship with an 18-year old. The protagonist is against it of course and in the end the boyfriend treats her badly. How ever my point is that the girl's mother dosn't ahve any opjections against the realtionship and through a great part of the movie the father's reation is portrait as a little overreacting.
Maybe it's because I've read too many fanfics, but I have a sad head cannon that her parents started to either be afraid of Hermione's magic or disproved of it somehow, or that they wanted her to go into the family business, but she liked magic too much. After many arguments, she started to see them less and less, choosing to stay in the Wizarding world, but she still loved them, so put the memory charms on them to protect them.
17:22 You guys often say this that Percy and Crouch jr. also must have had a time turner, but I think you are forgetting that Hermionie always tried her absolute hardest to get the best possible grade in her tests (getting 112% in charms in her first year, and similar in future tests). So she would have been definitely going for Outstanding marks in all her tests/assignments, so she would have needed a time turner to do this. But I think Percy and especially Crouch jr. might have just settled for Acceptable or Exceeds expectations grades in their 12 classes, meaning they probably could have just worked hard but not used a time turner.
Although I think if either of them had it, it was Percy due to your additional theory about Fred & George using a time turner to know the result of the quidditch world cup and bet all their money with bagman based on that result.
She needs the time turner to be in two classes at once because some of the classes are scheduled at the same time

I still don't understand why Hermione would lie. She could simply have said she didn't know about the troll so Harry and Ron came to let her know and ended up saving her from the troll. Or something along those lines closer to the truth. You wouldn't think they'd get in trouble for letting someone know about the danger when the teachers didn't know she wasn't with the rest of the group.
True, but when asked why she wasn't with them at the Halloween feast, she wouldn't have been happy to admit she was there crying her eyes out about Ron's comment all afternoon.

Here's a Harry Potter theory, how is it possible that multiple classes for the same year run at once (as we know from year 3?) We know that students pick two elective subjects from five. This means they're going to be students in the same year taking multiple different combinations of subjects, so someone would always be unable to attend both of their subjects. This is further compounded by only some houses having some subjects together, which implies the teachers must teach these lessons multiple times per week.
Another thing that doesn't make sense, despite being elective, it appears that every student in Gryffindor appears in care of magical creatures and divination. Are we supposed to believe that everyone just chose the same two subjects as Harry? Was Hermione the only one who took arithmancy, ancient runes or muggle studies in the entire year?
I think it's PRETTY OBVIOUS that most of these questions are from movie fans, which is why there's so many about the Hermione and Ron pairing

Actually, Hermione did not obliviate her parents, she put a charm that momentarily made her parents forget about her, and she did uplift the cham. I believe she talks about this at the end of The Half-Blood Prince.

Day 11 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry is dead because as Snape said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.
Harry did die but came back. He had a near death experience sort of.
I believe another reason why Hermione imitated Fleur by saying " ze grindylows" is because when Fleur arrived she insulted the food. Fleur went out her way to insult the food in english, a language that she and her friends and the rest of the Hogwarts students could understand versus speaking in french, a language that maybe not everyone in Hogwarts or at least in close proximity to her could understand. She insulted the food so everyone could hear and understand her perfectly instead of a language that they perhaps wouldn't all understand.
I also call some people by their full names, even in writing. So many of my friends go by shorter versions of their names and I call them that, but with some I just can't.
I heard a great theory that Hermione actually modified her parents memories in the winter of her 5th year. She gives back for a ski trip and after that we have no evidence that she's actually ever seen them again. It's interesting to think about

I really can't get behind the Harry and Hermione ship. He says that he thinks of Hermione like a sister, and in fourth year when he was only hanging out with Hermione because he and Ron had that fight, he was miserable and straight up thought that he liked Hermione, but he didn't really like hanging out with her one on one because it was really boring sometimes. That doesn't really sound like ship material to me.
Agreed. People like the cliche main male and female together and that’s something that I love about Harry Potter. It flipped it on its head. The movies didn’t help with their clear Hermione bias. They took away all of her flaws and gave her all of Ron’s strengths to make her perfect and him an empty shell.

Altering her parents' memories doesn't really make sense unless she was MORE concerned that they'd try to help, rather than just protect them from the Death Eaters. The witness protection thing in Australia would have amounted to the same level of protection because the Death Eaters' memories weren't affected. THEY still would have known what the Grangers looked like. Whether THEY remembered they had a daughter was irrelevant. In fact it prevented them from being aware they were even in danger. If they were found, they could still be used against Hermione because SHE still remembered and cared about them.
Sending them to Australia was to get them away from the situation. The Death Eaters would have had a hard time finding them that far away, when they could be anywhere in the world. She modified their memories so they wouldn't be worried about her or miss her, and they could live out their lives happily if she didn't survive. She sent them away so the Death Eaters couldn't use them as hostages to get to her, as you said.
The theory that the three represent the other houses is a nice theory! It speaks to how different personalities balance each other out!

I think that Hermione calling Ron "Ronald" is supposed to call back to when children upset their mothers and those mothers shout at the children using their full names.

"Why does Hermione fall in love with Ron?" is actually a good question because in the OTHER teenage fantasy book series which grows up with the reader and was written by a white English woman (Among many other things they have in common.) Camicazi doesn't end up in love with Hiccup or Fishlegs if I remember correctly. Showing that when you have a trio of main characters with one girl and two boys it ISN'T NECESARY for some of them to fall in love. Especially SINCE THERE'S A BLOODY WAR ON!
Things like this is why I think more people should read the How To Train Your Dragon books. It is INCREDIBILY different from the movie, but still as good. Perhaps even better. Definitely better then the later movies.

I always took the "ze grindylows" comment being mocking. I can imagine Fleur being angry and frustrated in a "I would have completed that task if it weren't for those grindylows." She must have been going on and on about it and Hermione had just heard her say ze grindylows multiple times.
I guess I haven't actually seen the movie that much, but I didn't realize it was Hermione that said that. In the book, that was Fleur's line, explaining to her sister why she couldn't get to her.
Hermione likes freshly mown grass because it reminds her of her childhood.
