  • The Art Students League is pleased to host a virtual talk with Alexander Nemerov, author of Fierce Poise: Helen Frankenthaler and 1950s New York on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 6 pm EST. Nemerov will be joined by League instructor and abstract artist Ronnie Landfield, a painter of Lyrical Abstraction who continues to work in styles and with techniques that have a genealogical connection to Frankenthaler’s Abstract Expressionism.
Nemerov and Landfield’s conversation will touch on the many ways Frankenthaler’s career is still relevant-from the historic significance of her work and Nemerov’s scholarship, to the ways in which Frankenthaler and the legacy of Abstract Expressionism continue to influence generations of artists today. This conversation will be a meeting of two great minds. One has traced, in detail, Helen Frankenthaler’s path through history. The other has, in some ways, followed in her footsteps.

Good to watch you both. Clem said, back in the early 80's, that I was "pert", My thesis was on deconstruction. I've been trying to unlearn it all. Thanks.
